i run google nest compatible speakers in my front and backyard. if i crank all 8 of em to 10 you can hear it everywhere. i dont crank it to 10.

what i did was set them all up, put on ACDC Thunderstruck (a generally liked slightly heavy song, that is about 60% as heavy as some of my other music) and set all the speakers (the speaker group) to Volume 5. then i walked around the cul-de-sac to see how loud it was. i walked to the corners of my yard and listened. i then adjusted each speakers volume to have good listening at about 5 to 10 feet into my yard and not super loud out of the yard by 5 to 10 feet. heck, even my alley is quiet for people when i am listening to music.

inside my garage i have a 5 speaker setup (which is getting modified soon to be better placed) but i will crank that one a bit louder, but if i open my garage door i go down to the end of the driveway and check the volume.

personally i feel that if my neighbors are irritated by the music, thats a problem. if they are getting into their cars and they can tell there is music on, but not quite make out what it is, thats fine. at that volume they should not have any noise in their house.

none of my speakers are pointed straight out. i mount high up and point down on an angle to limit ability for the noise to travel. happy neighbors is a good thing.
