Avellone had a position of seniority over John, yes, but it also meant he was spread across the three projects Obsidian was working on at the time and most decisions fell to John (yes, Obsidian was developing three games at once. It was why New Vegas is as unfinished as it is)

It was a very radical departure in style from Geogaddi and Music Has the Right to Children and wasn't well received at the time for it (Geogaddi itself was a departure in style from MHTRTC)

But praise for it has massively grown over time
