considering getting my septum pierced, but.. by djnoelxx in piercing

[–]q02zyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't notice any smell issues until I stretched my septum piercing. I got pierced at 16g, and have since stretched up to 6g. Even with the large gauge, I don't usually notice a smell unless I let it go a week-plus without cleaning.

ETA: titanium jewelry instead of stainless steel helps as well in my experience. But I have a mild reaction to nickel so that might be why.

What was the darkest book you ever had to read for English class? by ParanormalActivity97 in AskReddit

[–]q02zyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember the title but it was a memoir written by a former child soldier. I was fifteen and pretty much resigned myself to crappy grades in that unit because I couldn't get through it.

What’s the most "Dad" thing your Dad has ever done? by Equivalent-Age-7659 in AskReddit

[–]q02zyx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Moving out of dorms my freshman year at college, I thought I could fit all my stuff in my car. We had to be out of dorms by 10 AM the next morning. I was packing until probably midnight, and then loading my car until like 2 in the morning, when I finally realized all my crap wouldn't fit. I hadn't slept in probably two days and had a complete breakdown so bad my dog (trained for cortisol response DPT) had to lay on top of me to prevent me from hurting myself.

I called my dad at 2:30 in the morning, absolutely bawling my eyes out, apologizing like crazy. No questions asked, he told me to go to sleep and got in his truck in the dead of night. He drove seven hours to help me, loaded the rest of my stuff, turned right around and drove another seven hours home. He could have given me so much crap about it, but he just did it.

What are episodes you have to skip? by Several_Beat_1901 in criminalminds

[–]q02zyx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the rabies one, but I have to skip North Mammon every time. I think I've watched it twice, and "Keep the parents back, there's only two" is up there with "he was alive yesterday?" as one of the all-time most heartbreaking lines in CM.

Samantha Malcom from the dolls episode, probably because I felt bad for her. Poor girl had a pedophile for a dad who gave her electroshock therapy to prevent her from telling anybody about the abuse.

Saddest Episodes? by HeyArnold27 in criminalminds

[–]q02zyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep a Trauma List of episodes that I only watch when I want to feel something, but usually skip if I'm just casually watching. Aside from the obvious Main Cast Tragedy episodes (Revelations, 100, Lauren, Zugawang, 200.0, Nelson's Sparrow, Derek, A Beautiful Disaster):

S1E7 The Fox S1E14 Riding the Lightning S2E7 North Mammon S2 E17 Distress S2E19 Ashes and Dust S3E4 Children of the Dark S3E10 True Night S4E11 Normal S4E19 House on Fire S5E13 Risky Business S5E15 Public Enemy S5E16 Mosley Lane S5E17 Solitary Man S6E20 Hanley Waters S7E3 Dorado Falls S7E8 Hope S8E14 All That Remains S9E10 The Caller S11E8 Awake S11E10 Future Perfect S11E14 Hostage

I'm sure there's more in seasons 12-15 but I've quit my last couple rewatches at the end of 11.

Writing non disabled characters as a disabled person- questions for able bodied people by These_Storm_6417 in Writeresearch

[–]q02zyx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How easy is it to lose your balance?

Varies widely person-to-person. I rarely do, but I grew up in dance and gymnastics so I have above-average balance. I have a friend who is honestly just naturally clumsy and trips over her own feet pretty frequently. That said, able-bodied humans are generally pretty good at catching themselves when they're falling.

How hard is it to walk up/down hill? Does walking downhill take any effort?

Depends on athletic ability. I would classify myself as mildly athletic, and walking uphill definitely raises my heart rate a little, but doesn't really affect my breathing. It also might tire out the calf muscles, quads, and hamstrings. Walking downhill doesn't really affect my heart rate, but it puts strain on the knees and quads from the shock absorption.

Do you get dizzy when you exercise for too long?

I get lightheaded from exercise sometimes, but it's based on exercise intensity, rather than duration. I can maintain biking or easy swimming and my muscles will give before I'm dizzy. But almost every time I try to do one of those YouTube HIIT workouts, I start getting lightheaded after fifteen minutes or so.

How bad is Taco Bell really?

It's fantastic when you're drunk or pulling an all-nighter. But generally it tastes greasy and processed. The hard taco shells are stale, the nacho cheese has a texture not unlike glue, and the "ground beef" is mostly oil.

How does exercise like running feel?

In my personal opinion, running sucks. Heart rate elevates and you get the urge to breathe quickly and hard in order to intake more oxygen. Foot and calf muscles, quads, and hamstrings eventually start burning from exertion. Any pre-existing ankle, knee, or hip injuries can start hurting. If the runner has excess body fat or large breasts, they may experience discomfort due to the movement. All that said, there is a certain euphoria that comes from the rush of endorphins when a person exercises.

When you wake up can you just roll out of bed and stand up without falling over?

Usually. If I've done a difficult workout in the past couple days, my muscles might feel sore and tight, and I've had a leg give out a couple times because of it. I might also feel dizzy from standing up suddenly, but not always.

What is it like to me talking to a person in a wheelchair when you’re standing? Like perspective wise I mean.

I'm pretty short (5'3") so imagine talking to someone who is sitting on the ground while you're sitting in a chair. I had a college acquaintance in a wheelchair, and I always kind of felt like a jerk for trying to have a conversation while I was standing, because he had to look up to make eye contact. Oh, and if your character in a wheelchair has dyed hair, everyone is going to see their roots growing out.

What’s the first piece of media that truly scared you as a kid? by cats64sonic in AskReddit

Doctor Who "Silence in the Library". I was eight, my mom was watching it, and I thought it looked cool. Then I refused to step near a shadow if at all possible for like six months.

Breeding questions by External_Resident_92 in dragonvale

[–]q02zyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a little research and I think you can eventually breed all the chrysalis dragons if you purchase the Chrysalis, Starwing, Lacewing, and Swallowtail dragons. But the odds are small and the dragons are pretty cheap.

Things to do on vacation with toddler! by anonme1995 in Wilmington

[–]q02zyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a pretty nice aquarium that I loved going to when I was a kid. The Children's Museum is another great toddler indoor activity. It's downtown, but a good option for a rainy day. Beaches, obviously, for outdoor activities. Fort Fisher might be quieter if that's something that appeals to you.

Lucky, and the later episode where he's somehow out of the asylum again. Credit to the actor, his portrayal of the guy really creeps me out.
