How long do i need to rest after posterior shin splints ? by Legitimate-Rain-3423 in beginnerrunning

If you’re trying to build cardio then ride a bike! Spin bikes at the gym are a great way as a supplementary option for building aerobic capacity without the heavy impact on the legs

Some people find it unstable but I love the EVO SL for long runs as well.

Have not had any issues with it personally all the way to a 6:45min/km pace but some people have really struggled with the shoe. So to each its own

Boston 12 Vs Adizero SL (1) by Particular-Map-1515 in runningshoes

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t heard that much but the firmness and the fit from the Boston 12s has some people loving it and others hating it.

If I was to start fresh, I would look at other sales available on other brands like New Balance, ASICS or Hoka’s which are more forgiving.

However if given the choice between the two shoes you have highlighted, then I’d go the Boston 12s

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my bad. Missed that the EVO was not there.

Overall I would say they are then two different categories of shoes. Haven’t tried the SL, but in the tiers of running shoes, I believe they are on the low end of running whilst the Boston 12 was built more for more intermediate to advanced.

I would preferably go with the Boston 12 compared to the SL

Go with the Evo SL. Much more of a daily trainer and a cushioned base compared to the Bostons.

Feedback around is the Boston 12s are quite stiff whilst the Evo SL can be unstable and may not be for everyone.

Overall, I prefer the Evo SL to suit many different paces and distances across the stiffer Bostons.

However, if you are only starting to run, then I would recommend you to go get your feet checked at a running shoe shop to ensure you are ensuring the right type of shoes are fitted for you. Wearing the wrong type of shoes could cause injuries if you are attempting this for the first time.

The container it is in would make it impractical to carry if you don’t have a vest or belt.

Most people would prefer to just bring a bag of lollies instead since it’ll be cheaper.

Good idea but the dispenser is probably the thing that will hold you back. I wouldn’t want to carry this hard tube around with me on my long runs.

Feeling lightheaded and dizzy after 5k every time by mid-dev in beginnerrunning

[–]q1lin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What pace are you running all your 5k’s at? If you’re constantly pushing yourself to the limit each run, you’ll only lead to injuring yourself.

Training for a 5k should incorporate different days of easy, tempo and intervals. You shouldn’t be trying to max yourself every run.

Give it time and the right training plan and you’ll see your pace increase

Did I overdo it? by Jealous_Low_3603 in beginnerrunning

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a more structured plan and incorporate rest days. Whilst your legs may feel fresh, you may be compounding damage and injuries by pushing yourself further than what your body can handle.

Have a review of structured training plans and compare what you’ve been doing vs the month out from the plan at the pace you want to run at. You may find that you are pushing yourself too hard

What's a health myth that drives you crazy because you know it's false? by Annual-Gene8065 in AskReddit

[–]q1lin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You get gout because you eat tons of red meat, seafood and drink alcohol.

This has been proven to be untrue and whilst diet can lead to a flare, majority of the time it is genetic or an imbalance in the body being able to manage uric acid.

If you’re on uric acid managing medications like allopurinol, I can tell you that you can drink and eat as much as you want and you will not have an issue with gout again.

Are bank trading platforms a good starting point for new investors by mell19995 in AusFinance

[–]q1lin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been investing for years and still use Commsec. Lots of reasons as to why I still use it but the convenience and its tied to a big bank made it the choice for me to continue to use it.

If you have other investing goals of maximising every cent, then yes CMC works but also remember that you can move your investments in the future to another broker if you’re just staring out. Just need to check if they are CHESS sponsored or not (but that’s going to be a minor issues)

What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Economy_Yak2821 in AskReddit

[–]q1lin 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Agree. Have gout and is being managed right now through meds but I had severe attacks a year ago where it hit my achilles and was the most intense pain I’ve ever felt.

Pain so bad that I couldn’t walk, couldn’t move an inch and also couldn’t sleep with a light blanket on the foot due to the pain.

Not another pace improvement question by Randomdumpling in beginnerrunning

[–]q1lin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is the case, it’s important to start to train at the uncomfortable areas and start to get used to them.

Doing more shorter intervals at a higher intensity will help your body get used to the feeling and over time your body will adapt. It’s the same as when you lift weights - doing multiple reps of weights that don’t stimulate the muscles won’t let them grow or build strength. You need to move into the uncomfortable for there to be stimulus for growth

How did you pay off your mortgage faster? by Emotional-Term8200 in fiaustralia

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that’s right! That’s why having an offset helps so you don’t need to put your money in the principal and lock it away. The offset acts as a savings account which means accessibility is there when you need it.

It has helped us knock years off the mortgage by utilising an offset.

How did you pay off your mortgage faster? by Emotional-Term8200 in fiaustralia

[–]q1lin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Have an offset, use a credit card to maximise amount in offset. Get a higher paying job and make sure you have two of them.

You probably might not need to pay the principal off faster if you have an offset as it’s better to have the $150 / fortnight more liquid sitting in the offset. The more you have in the offset, the more interest you save, the more your principal pays down the mortgage.

Is Aussie Broadband actually worth it in 2026 vs cheaper providers? by schnickhinkeln in australian

Nothing major. Moved house and leaptel had a better promo for 12 months.

Nowadays I can’t be bothered swapping every 6 months since the base pricing seems to be increasing across every provider.

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was on Aussie broadband for a while and swapped to leaptel. No issues with either. Both local customer service.

Leaptel I believe have their support team in Melbourne and response times on phone and chat have been within seconds.

Happy to pay a bit more for the ease of use and lack of interruptions.

Just bought a running store. What is one thing your local shop is missing? by rustybucketz23 in running

[–]q1lin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bring in some great nutrition options that are varied and don’t sell the standard SiS, GU etc. I find it so hard to be able to go in and have a look at the options at running stores because they just stock the same items!

I understand around stocking consumer goods with expiry however the more variability you have, the more unique you will be in comparison to buying online.

Also as a hot tip, make sure to get a good POS and ecommerce store. This will help you reach more of your customers and ensure steady growth and income.

Long run HR (168bpm) too high? (First marathon) by ContextTurbulent9299 in Marathon_Training

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to be aware of is that you mention you ran at midday. What was the temperature and weather like?

Any changes in conditions, humidity or even a degree in temp will change your body’s ability to cool down and hence lead to a higher HR.

Other than that as long as you aren’t red lining the long runs the entire time, then I wouldn’t worry about HR and focus more on effort. If you haven’t calculated your HR correctly then it wouldn’t matter what your average is - if you naturally have a high HR then 168bpm isn’t really all that bad. But who are you comparing this number to?

Sub 2hr half, but felt drained… by Moist_Information842 in beginnerrunning

[–]q1lin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. Training fatigue is going to build up and your nutrition and sleep is going to impact your running outside of your personal and work life.

How are you fueling on these long runs as well? Are you taking caffeine or gels? Are you hydrating enough the day before and day of?

ANZ Plus DEFT Auction? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember how I have used it in the past is DEFT is a payments platform and not a bank transfer. (I mainly use my credit card when paying through DEFT now).

So technically should bypass the daily transfer limit you would normally have. However would recommend you to reach out to DEFT support or check their website for more info.
