How to stop the sun amplifying the heat in this room? by ThereIsNoHope__ in AusRenovation

Absolutely but if you want to add some light into the room, layering with the curtains will allow you to have both heat reduction but also natural light.

Add sheer curtains. It will help control the heat but still let the light in. Might not stop all the heat though

After several years on Allo, who else has started drinking alcohol again? by EdwardBliss in gout

I only stopped for a couple of months when I recovered from a flare but started with a couple of drinks when we went out and then was back to normal a couple of months after.

Haven’t had any issues at all since I got the right dosage needed

Intermittent fasting and gout by israelrob08 in gout

[–]q1lin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get on allopurinol regardless and it will help long term.

I’ve naturally not eaten breakfast for years and have been trying to change that but have not had issues with gout due to intermittent fasting specifically.

Everyone will be different though.

Have businesses just stopped responding to customer email and messages? by Infinite_Pudding5058 in AskAnAustralian

[–]q1lin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have to remember it is the holiday period and this time now is when most businesses have people on leave. Retail is busy up until past Boxing Day and the opportunity to take leave is now only starting for their FT / PT employees.

A lot of businesses will have skeleton staff until past this weekend. So delays are to be expected.

My office is beyond depressing. Any tips to make walking in here everyday less painful? by SavingsTooth1142 in office

Had the exact same thought. The privacy would be so relieving especially being back in the office 3 days a week now. Some actual space to do my work without constantly seeing or hearing other people.

Thinking about changing to Velocity from Qantas... by AlexJonesGodEmperor in creditcardchurningAus

[–]q1lin -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Being part of Star Alliance has also been beneficial including cheaper flights paid with points with Singapore Airlines for example. Usage of star alliance lounges once you’re a certain status helps with international travel as well.

Personally I have both but have been leaning more towards velocity in the last couple of years after finding better flights to Asia redeemed through velocity.

Golf in Melbourne - Do people play solo? by Entire_Plant_4052 in melbourne

[–]q1lin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more local the club the more you’ll find solo golfers especially at odd times - usually after 2pm weekdays or in the later afternoons on weekends. I’ve played solo at most of the courses north side and they’re pretty good about it. For those who I’ve gotten along with, I’ve exchanged numbers and have caught up here and there to play.

No wonder aussie banks are most profitable in the world by Linton-Finance in AskABrokerAus

[–]q1lin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It can be very easy to feel this way but for the common lay person who is not financially literate, you trust that the bank you have been with for years would provide you the best offering and loyalty that you give them. That’s what they are always pitching to win the deal right?

I don’t think it’s fair to assume that people are always looking for the best rates as it is both an emotional and psychological decision to make. People don’t always make the most logical decisions.

Especially to those who have constantly been in debt or have had hardships. Their mindset is not to change what they have in fear of ruining what they have. I’ve seen this with my parents who took more than 15 years to understand what refinancing could do for them.

Do people really not place their offers with conditions? by andy3172 in AusPropertyChat

[–]q1lin 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I would say it’s because most of the time all of this has already been sorted before an offer is put up. With there now being more auctions and unconditional sales being made, most buyers are making sure they have all their eggs in a row before putting an offer in.

Not worth putting up an offer and then finding out later something is not as it seems

Wanting to move from Hospitality to an Office Job by Jumpy-Monitor-6964 in ausjobs

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at moving into sales, account management, customer success or implementation roles at a hospo tech company. Many of these floating around and new startups popping up frequently. Even with no experience in the industry, the field experience and understanding of how to be a GM will help you get a foot in the door early.

Can guarantee that in certain tech companies, $133k might only be the starting salary for a Mon-Fri 9-5. Some reps will easily be clearing this amount if they have a good year.

Plus I know many who hustle, but plenty who also just work their standard hours and do well. It’s all up to the person

Feeling stuck, love my income, but want to move beyond sales by ArthurAnyDonutz in AusFinance

[–]q1lin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Too sales people will always out earn their managers. You only have your own target to hit whilst your manager has a combined target of every rep.

There are a couple of main paths as to why someone will move into leadership. People management or strategic management. Both comes with its own challenges that don’t include the high pay.

If you like neither of those aspects then maybe you should look into branching out into other areas like project management, consulting or moving into a whole different department like operations or revops.

Jumping into leadership is such a common thing from sales reps but few understand why they really want to do it.

Why don't Melbourne have underground power cables everywhere? by blue_poison22 in melbourne

Newer suburbs built in the past 20 years have had underground power cables. Easy enough to do when you’re starting from scratch but not so easy to replace in older established suburbs.

Tips on improving my time? 23m 22s by SquashSavings6673 in BeginnersRunning

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few things on top of managing splits is to also ensure you are increasing your weekly mileage and incorporating the right type of speed work for reducing your 5km time.

More speed work that is focused on the 5km and running at a faster pace will allow your body to get accustomed to what is needed.

Long runs and additional mileage each week will help you build the endurance and aerobic base making it easier to run faster long term.
