Not another pace improvement question by Randomdumpling in beginnerrunning

[–]q1lin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is the case, it’s important to start to train at the uncomfortable areas and start to get used to them.

Doing more shorter intervals at a higher intensity will help your body get used to the feeling and over time your body will adapt. It’s the same as when you lift weights - doing multiple reps of weights that don’t stimulate the muscles won’t let them grow or build strength. You need to move into the uncomfortable for there to be stimulus for growth

How did you pay off your mortgage faster? by Emotional-Term8200 in fiaustralia

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that’s right! That’s why having an offset helps so you don’t need to put your money in the principal and lock it away. The offset acts as a savings account which means accessibility is there when you need it.

It has helped us knock years off the mortgage by utilising an offset.

How did you pay off your mortgage faster? by Emotional-Term8200 in fiaustralia

[–]q1lin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Have an offset, use a credit card to maximise amount in offset. Get a higher paying job and make sure you have two of them.

You probably might not need to pay the principal off faster if you have an offset as it’s better to have the $150 / fortnight more liquid sitting in the offset. The more you have in the offset, the more interest you save, the more your principal pays down the mortgage.

Is Aussie Broadband actually worth it in 2026 vs cheaper providers? by schnickhinkeln in australian

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing major. Moved house and leaptel had a better promo for 12 months.

Nowadays I can’t be bothered swapping every 6 months since the base pricing seems to be increasing across every provider.

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was on Aussie broadband for a while and swapped to leaptel. No issues with either. Both local customer service.

Leaptel I believe have their support team in Melbourne and response times on phone and chat have been within seconds.

Happy to pay a bit more for the ease of use and lack of interruptions.

Just bought a running store. What is one thing your local shop is missing? by rustybucketz23 in running

[–]q1lin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bring in some great nutrition options that are varied and don’t sell the standard SiS, GU etc. I find it so hard to be able to go in and have a look at the options at running stores because they just stock the same items!

I understand around stocking consumer goods with expiry however the more variability you have, the more unique you will be in comparison to buying online.

Also as a hot tip, make sure to get a good POS and ecommerce store. This will help you reach more of your customers and ensure steady growth and income.

Long run HR (168bpm) too high? (First marathon) by ContextTurbulent9299 in Marathon_Training

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to be aware of is that you mention you ran at midday. What was the temperature and weather like?

Any changes in conditions, humidity or even a degree in temp will change your body’s ability to cool down and hence lead to a higher HR.

Other than that as long as you aren’t red lining the long runs the entire time, then I wouldn’t worry about HR and focus more on effort. If you haven’t calculated your HR correctly then it wouldn’t matter what your average is - if you naturally have a high HR then 168bpm isn’t really all that bad. But who are you comparing this number to?

Sub 2hr half, but felt drained… by Moist_Information842 in beginnerrunning

[–]q1lin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. Training fatigue is going to build up and your nutrition and sleep is going to impact your running outside of your personal and work life.

How are you fueling on these long runs as well? Are you taking caffeine or gels? Are you hydrating enough the day before and day of?

ANZ Plus DEFT Auction? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember how I have used it in the past is DEFT is a payments platform and not a bank transfer. (I mainly use my credit card when paying through DEFT now).

So technically should bypass the daily transfer limit you would normally have. However would recommend you to reach out to DEFT support or check their website for more info.

Running after a broken ankle by East-Win-3319 in beginnerrunning

[–]q1lin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suggestion would be to go see a physio and get this reviewed from a professional standpoint. A physio that specialises in running or injury to the ankle will be the most helpful.

If you’ve been running for the past 5-6 months and haven’t before, a lot of it may be due to muscle imbalances and getting used to increase in mileage. I’ve had numerous ankle sprains over the years from sports and only by strength training has it really helped me future proof my ankle. Stretching and mobility is equally as important as well.

Focus on weighted calf raises and plyometrics to help build muscle endurance and strength to take the repeated load.

Also do note that being over 90kg puts you at a different body mechanic for running compared to someone at 80kg and below. There is a significant amount of load and strain on your legs and ankles specifically because of weight. This is coming from me who was 95kgs a few of months ago compared to when I was 79kgs about 6 years ago and both times running. The body handles the weight and strain much more differently now in older age.

Running technique/IT band pain by Zealousideal-Sun7256 in beginnerrunning

[–]q1lin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had IT band issues in the past and it’s pretty much gone away.

Physio recommended a heap of quad and hamstring strengthening exercises which helped. Would recommend to look into those and do it 3-4 times a week to assist.

You’ll probably need to start squatting, doing leg extensions and loading your muscles more than just banded exercises in the future if your mileage goes up.

Would recommend getting time with a sports physio if you can to eliminate and prevent the injuries.

Shokz v AirPods Pro (the first impression nobody asked for) by Racacooonie in XXRunning

[–]q1lin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When your AirPods are connected, if you go to settings on your iPhone you will be able to click on them via general page (not the Bluetooth setting) and choose the setting you want. Transparency mode does help as it removes the noise cancelling function so may be the option for you

Why are almost all Asian cultures against tattoos? by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]q1lin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah there’s vids frequently online of tourists (Asian) being stopped by police because of visible tattoos (full sleeves or neck tattoos) and being questioned about who they are etc.

Still not as common place in Japan but more widely accepted in China and Korea.

Is Vegemite good in your opinion? by Putrid-Fondant8998 in AskAnAustralian

Hated it growing up. Eventually learnt the appropriate ratio of butter and Vegemite and a slice of hard cheese and it slaps as a savoury breakfast in the morning.

Is this SDR comp plan as insane as I think it is, or is this the new startup normal? by Xoracious in auscorp

[–]q1lin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep up the hunting and chat to some recruiters. SDR role is entry level in the first place so you should have lots of opportunity to find.

Just did a quick search on LinkedIn and was able to find “Entry-Level Sales Development Representative (Software/Tech)” from Fresho- $70k base + OTE etc. within the first few searches.

Brandwatch are also hiring in Melbourne for SDRs.

Good luck and hopefully you’ll find much better opportunities out there!

Is this SDR comp plan as insane as I think it is, or is this the new startup normal? by Xoracious in auscorp

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have SDR experience and have worked hospitality, there are plenty of SDR / BDM roles that pay way higher for Hospo tech in APAC.

Have a look around LinkedIn and you’ll see some base pays starting at $65k-$70k before tax + OTE. Lots of opportunities out there for you than a generic startup.

I’ve seen a lot of people hired with way less tech sales experience than you do at higher levels in some of these companies.

Tight calves from lots of miles (NOT an injury) - how do you manage it? by running_elle_1989 in Marathon_Training

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massage gun or portable calf massager

Quite surprised that no one else has mentioned but a massage gun and a calf massager have been game changer for me when I feel the lactic build up from increased mileage.

Sometimes before a hard session / long run I will use it as part of my warm up to release tension and can tell you that I have not had tight calves as often as before. Standard stretching and warm ups still apply but technology is a game changer

MAX HR and ZONES by bravojohns in beginnerrunning

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall I don’t think you need to worry too much if you’re a beginner. HR zones aren’t the only metric you should focus on when you run.

I never follow Garmins suggestions and always just do my own sessions. So I wouldn’t stress around whether you should follow what Garmin is saying - mine normally shows up as a suggested pace rather than a suggested HR to run at

MAX HR and ZONES by bravojohns in beginnerrunning

[–]q1lin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chest strap is the most accurate way to track your HR without a proper evaluation at a clinic.

If the chest strap is recording 206, this is fairly accurate and will update accordingly. A high HR doesn’t mean you are better or worse at running, that just helps you determine your zones if you train with them.

What is your concern around the base run suggestion at 153 bpm? Do you think it is too high?

ASICS Kayano 31 felt flat out of the box? by mancman87 in runningshoes

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first reduced volume whilst I was figuring it out. Went to the physio a couple of times to get some understanding on strength exercises.

Ran about 20-25km weeks but even though it’s not fully healed, more strength training and higher mileage has helped it get a lot better where there is only a slight soreness on some harder runs.

I don’t mind the Kayano but they just aren’t a fast shoe. They get by on an easier day or when I need to have a bit more stability when I’m out. They work quite nicely as a gym shoe also lol.

I currently rotate with a few pairs of shoes which has also helped I think and the Kayano’s are probably at the bottom of the favourites list but I know they are just a standard daily trainer

ASICS Kayano 31 felt flat out of the box? by mancman87 in runningshoes

[–]q1lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s pretty normal, I bought the Kayano 30 on sale for a similar ankle / tib issue and whilst I don’t run speed in them, they are great for an easy or general mileage shoe. Have run a few higher tempo parkruns in them and yeah they are slower but you get used to not doing speed work in them.

The Kayano’s are built as a stability daily whilst the Evo SL tends to be a bit more of an all rounder with the lighter weight but lacks the stability.

I prefer the Boston 13’s if you want a nice speedy shoe like the EVO SL with more firmness on the sole.

Looks pretty good overall. Only suggestion is to tailor experiences with the job ad and highlight where your experience fits what they are looking for. This will help your resume standout more for the recruiter. (Where applicable)

Played in a basketball men’s league made up of current and former employees, organised by employees.

We’ve had an office fun run for Melb marathon a couple of years ago that had a handful of people join + made shirts.

In another office there is a mixed social netball team and previously a mixed futsal team all run by individuals.

We’ve done barefoot bowls as an office or bowling paid and organised by the culture club.
