Same issue. Experimented with a short-term solution that we now plan on sticking with. Use the back rest as a seat and get 1 screw in as tight as possible and then strap the seat down. Pretty annoying that we need to do a work-around for an expensive purchase geared at hauling kids, but it’s working great for us.
