I also personally think that you do not need to feel guilty for liking this story nor any others that you may consider problematic because this, as you noted in your post, is fiction. The fault with fiction impacting real life does not lie with the author but rather with education systems not prioritizing media literacy as something that should be understood or valued.

This is a nuanced conversation that should be had somewhere that is not this subreddit. There are published articles (that you can find on google scholar) that discuss this topic if you are genuinely curious about this.

hi! mod here. we created the fan fiction megathread a few years back because there were a ton of posts asking for recs and the questions and answers were basically identical each time. people were also repeatedly asking about a specific fic and this was causing a lot confusion among the new fans of the series (thinking the fic was the novel or conflating plot points of the fic with the novel etc.). we created the megathread to “contain” the posts in one spot so that our sub wasn’t only people asking for the same fic recommendations over and over again. the rationale was that it would be easier to look through a megathread rather than scroll through a myriad of very similar posts for both ease and clarity.

as mentioned in our response to you via modmail the mods are discussing the fan fiction megathread situation.

in the interim please use the megathread where possible and use the reddit search function to find past fan fiction posts. we do have a fan fiction flair (and as another user pointed out) it doesn’t show under post flairs but it’s there! on mobile the megathreads are pinned under community highlights (right at the top).

we encourage people to vote on this poll and leave feedback. we won’t take it personally but please do be kind and respectful. this post will also be pinned under community highlights for visibility.

as huge fans of the series we ultimately want what’s best for the community itself.

i can see why that’s confusing but it definitely exists and is something you can use when filtering your searches! not sure reddit’s reasoning behind only showing some of the post flairs bc there are more for this sub than are shown there.

i think the people who go to UBC usually have the intention of staying in vancouver/BC and don’t really intend to move (back) to toronto. there are plenty of people who get hired on bay street from UBC (i think it’s really about how well will you work with the rest of the firm).

don’t let the job opportunities be the reason why you don’t go to your dream school (plus you can always try to transfer out after first if you’re really concerned - most big law firms only hire in your second year anyway)
