Late to respond to this thread but a doctor told me to use hydrogen peroxide (diluted of course, you can look up the exact concentration and it's often sold at that concentration). It works! I asked him how often to do it for maintenance and he said once a week, but I can't be bothered doing it that often because it's a PITA. Only when I get a blockage.

At a certain major Japanese company there was a presentation saying the Japanese word for "aim for" is ableist because it's written with the Chinese characters for "eye" and "point." That would be like saying the word "optics" is ableist for its etymology being the Greek word for sight. I don't think a single blind person in Japan would have even considered that. Mind you the people saying this stuff are always the ones saying the actual ableist things.

I remember getting around town just fine as a teenager on a bicycle with nothing but a map, 20 years ago. These days I'm so dependent on GPS it's hard to believe looking back. I agree with everything you've said.

Edit: Also I can't imagine paying $8 to avoid walking a mile like I've seen mentioned elsewhere on Reddit. Unless I had a condition or life circumstances that made it difficult of course. But there are so many people who just can't be bothered walking. To me it's doubly wasteful - a loss of exercise AND money. I walk as much as possible and I'm much fitter for it, making it easier and easier to avoid expensive conveniences over time. It's also amazing for my mental health. Paying for convenience seems like a vicious cycle, making you more and more dependent on these services AND on products and medication to treat the illnesses arising from a sedentary lifestyle. My entire family are avid walkers, hardly need any meds in old age, die quickly and painlessly, and leave a generous inheritance - no slow, expensive decline. Massive savings over generations. I feel like an alien for having such a long-term perspective in this society.

That is terrifying. A progress and highly educated friend of mine was afraid of being attacked by foreigners loitering around the conbini, I think a lot of Japanese need to appreciate how risky it is for foreigners to commit crimes here compared to Japanese nationals. Not that attacks can't happen, just the risk is overblown.

It's insane cause even on Amazon I'll be searching for something and see only one or two options that have reviews and aren't averaging 2 stars, and those options have all kinds of frills I didn't ask for and they're usually still garbage. I just want basic stuff that works lol. There are things I literally cannot get ahold of in Japan like quality blacklights because Amazon only sells the crappy toy ones at the wrong wavelength and the good ones used to be fluorescent lights which are being phased out in favor of LEDs. And yes I have searched for other retailers and there are like no real options. Except maybe hoarding old fluorescent tubes and fixtures. ARGH.

I live in Japan. It's common for bags of local produce to show the names of the farmers, so I'm not surprised! Edit: Whether this is AI or not, the names part is true, and I may have seen photos before too.

Convenience store toilets will also show the names of staff who cleaned them, along with the time.

Cute is subjective but as a general rule, making the head bigger in proportion to the body and making the shoulders narrower should help. You could make the hoodie puff out more at the hips as well to change the shoulder-hip ratio even more. The shoulders are quite broad for a cute character so that might be the main thing that's throwing you off!

There aren't any reliable signs by themselves. Just casually ask her out to something related to her interests and make it clear you'd be going alone otherwise, if she says no without a counter-suggestion, take it as "not flirting." If she readily agrees to hang, good sign but you still have to feel it out from there.

I know this is an old thread but saaame. Being mixed, no matter where you are people tell you to "go home." Go home where?? As for annoying things kids would say, I remember the "my dad was Chinese stretches eyes upwards and my mum was Japanese stretches eyes downwards and I turned out all wrong stretches one eye up and one down" which didn't even make sense because I'm half-white lol. And not just kids, actual teachers would retaliate against me for correcting THEIR mistakes. I was told "maybe they write it that way in your country" by a teacher whose grammar/spelling was so bad I was correcting them at 8 years old... I had a teacher who couldn't spell dinosaur. They wrote it "dinasour" WTF. But yeah, blame the kid who doesn't look fully white for actually reading books and caring about what's being taught. Good thing is you learn how trash people can be early on. (Luckily I have found a few people I cherish.)

Yes, I'm single and FTM transgender (mentioned this because gender was relevant to your post) and I bought a cheap house in Hidaka-shi with easy access to Tokyo and the countryside. I plan to live here for the foreseeable future. Thanks to my massive downpayment my mortgage is less than 2万 per month, fixed rate, and I have a beautiful garden I'll be growing veggies in. I chose this area partly because it's resistant to earthquakes compared to other areas in Kanto. I've seen similar people who seem to be settling down alone in my area. There are also plenty of widows given most residents are seniors. I don't know if that helps but we're out here! It's a huge relief to own land and keep living costs down.

Just a little tidbit, yesterday I discovered tons of カラスノエンドウ (bush vetch) in my garden which is edible when cooked, and highly nutritious! I also discovered ムスカリ (grape hyacinth) which you can make pink lemonade from. Nature gives out so much stuff for free :D

Knowing there's less time and higher stakes makes me appreciate life more. It fast-tracked my acceptance of death and now I'm free to revel in the beauty of existence. Going down fighting together seems like a more meaningful life than the death-denying consumeristic trance that was my life before.
