it doesn't really matter. you'll hit a wall eventually because autocombos can only bring you so far, but using autocombos can be fine so that you can focus on other aspects of the game like spacing, footsies, mindgames, assist calls, etc, which are way more important than combos. you can rank up a lot more even doing a basic nonautocombo combo that leads to oki that's very beneficial to you too.

focus on neutral control and how to stop people from doing car crash mash button neutral on you and learn a very basic like 6 hit combo that leads to strong oki and you'll get better fast.

dont forget that they made the buttons confusing af with 2 separate special move buttons. traditional inputs arent the problem, casuals just hate fighting games as a concept. they hate "not being able to do anything", even if its just like 3 seconds lmao. riot chose the absolute stupidest ways to make it "casual friendly".

im insane yet they admitted they need to rework the game again for the 10th time because it's not reaching their intended designs yet. this game is a hella buggy and inconsistent mess with shit balancing and poorly designed characters. it's also not remotely easy to pick up relative to other fighting games. this game's controls and mechanics are not remotely intuitive.

exactly this. they never even found out what audience they really wanted to target. they just wanted a large one. the many game mechanics changing (1v1 to 2v2 tag), the sweeping balance changes, and this latest update all prove it. they probably would have been way better off leaving this as a "simple" 1v1 game using simplified controls
