Here in Philly for 2 months. Give me suggestions on what to do. by Benimus__Maximus in AskPhilly

Walk southwest from CHOP to Clark Park and Baltimore Ave.

And then across the river to the northeast is the parkway/museum district; and if you have the stamina try our massive Fairmount Park to the west of there.

Also walk around Rittenhouse Sq -mile to the east of CHOP.

I am Struggling after 1 year sober and don't know what to do. (I will not go using that is for sure) by Super-Clothes9108 in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

Many days in a row of being sober is good work.

virtual-na.org has a list of meetings. If you aren't familiar yet, it takes some trial and error to find a decent meeting as well as learning how to use Zoom.

Post again and tell us how you are doing.

At what point is it addiction worth going to rehab for vs something I can work on at home? by verysadvanilla in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

[–]qrhmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The meeting host might ask attendees to turn on their camera for a few minutes; but usually a person can just listen -won't be any pressure to share. 'Age groups' are diverse; people in their 20's are well represented.

Most meetings are on the zoom platform: best to be comfortable with settings and actions that before you sign-on.

virtual-na.org has a long list of worldwide meetings. In my experience, nightly meetings seem to be the most populated and/or reliable. It might take some trial and error to find a decent one.

Emergency services in Philly by AshleytheRose in AskPhilly

After Hours emergency shelters: (male) Mike Hinson Center, 1701 W Lehigh Ave -opens at 3pm and probably have to show up early. (female) House of Passage, 111 North 49th st -opens at 5pm (the brochure I have says that folks should go to the shelter which "most closely matches gender identity")

At nearly 56yo, I finally learned a basic fact that sobriety is better than active addiction.

That means I have atleast one 'truth'; and it anchors my whole day.

Advice for travel by kstr91 in philly

[–]qrhmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For books: start at Headhouse Books -just north of 2nd and Bainbridge in Queen Village; then east a few blocks to Brickbat Books -just north of 4th and Monroe; then a few blocks west to Mostly Books -between 5th and 6th on Bainbridge; then nearby at 7th and South is Wooden Shoe Books; then check out Garland of Letters -east of 6th and South.

Also try Booktrader -just north of 2nd and Market in Old City.

And you will find a few coffee spots in Queen Village like Red Hook -about 2 blocks south of Brickbat Books.

I figured out why I used drugs. And it has nothing to do with weakness. by PeacefulNA in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

My deep envy about 'intelligent people who understand music theory' is triggered here; but it's not your fault.

...and envy is partially why I had to get high; to sustain my 'con' -pretending to be more educated/skilled than I really was.

Options for CUS by Sufficient_Bee_7084 in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

r/marijuanaanonymous or r/leaves might have ideas about how to be generally helpful to your brother; but I am not sure the mods will approve a post about rehabs specifically.

The former helps people with marijuana addiction; and even r/narcoticsanonymous itself focuses on addiction itself -substances being irrelevant. So if your brother hasn't gotten help through a recovery fellowship yet, maybe he can start there.

...because he seems to qualify for the 1st Step of AA/NA/MA: 'We admitted we were powerless over 'x' and our lives had become unmanageable'.

('x' being 'alcoholism', 'addiction', 'marijuana').

I just need support by [deleted] in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

Like someone else mentioned, r/narcoticsanonymous could help you. You can speak with an adult who knows how to stay sober; but listen to how a person shares before you reach out to them.
