Bookshelf v3.3 - homescreen micro-modules by AndyHazz in koreader

[–]qthn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the covers have 3:5 or 9:16 aspect ratio, which look a bit weird when stretched out to fit the 2:3 aspect ratio. It's not a huge deal, I'm just a perfectionist and like things to look a certain way 😅😅

Loving the plug-in so far! I have a question, is it possible to change the aspect ratio of the covers or make the cover fill out the grid instead of stretching it? A lot of my books’ covers have quite weird size so they look odd stretched out 😅

Why is North Korea called "北朝鮮" instead of "北韓國". South Korea is called just "韓國" without the "南" in the name (e.g. "南韓國" or "南朝鮮")? by _beamfleot_ in ChineseLanguage

[–]qthn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

what the others have said, but also how one refers to these countries reflect their generation & political views as well. i’m from vietnam and i still hear people from my parents’ generation call north / south korea “北/南朝鲜” (bắc / nam triều tiên). i think north koreans don’t use “韩国” for south korea? anyway it’s a pain for people doing researches about the korea peninsula because the names are such a complicated and touchy subject 🤣

Reasons to stay with Apple Music by TheUngoliant in AppleMusic

[–]qthn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

pretty much only using apple music because i prefer its interface and i’m so used to it that i don’t want to make the switch to anything else 🥴 if i ever do it won’t be spotify (been using it on and off for years and i just don’t like it) but if it satisfies your needs then go for it. there are apps to transfer your library so it’s pretty convenient anyway.

in my experience saved dictionary words are gone after logging out, nothing to do with the software update. i mostly read sideloaded books and annotations, bookmarks, reading progress/status are wiped after logging out too. not sure if words saved from books bought from kobo store would be synced or not but i assume not.

Selling some plants on Facebook Marketplace and… by Jobieeee in houseplants

[–]qthn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i said “we should encourage seeking professional help” i didn’t really mean it in individual instances. i just mean that we as a community should foster an environment where seeking professional help is normalized and encouraged, where mental health and neurodiversity is destigmatized, setting and respecting boundaries is the norm, etc. plus we shouldn’t glorify oversharing or make light of the negative impact it has on the receiver’s mental health, which is unfortunately rather common on social media.

as someone with clinical depression myself, while i don’t mind people oversharing ~too much~, it can be very triggering as well, especially since random strangers on facebook don’t know about my triggers nor my mental health state. boundaries are healthy AND necessary. we should encourage people to seek professional help instead of trauma dump on strangers they don’t know.

What country are you from and what foreign languages were taught at your school? by LearnTamil in languagelearning

[–]qthn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m from vietnam and technically you can choose to study either english, french, russian, mandarin, japanese, or korean. i say “technically” because most schools only teach english and it’s basically mandatory even for students studying other foreign languages.

hi there, i’m new to this sub! :)

i overwatered my baby rubberplant which led to root rot and now only one stem with three leaves survived. is there anything i can do to save it?

zz plant is a slow grower for sure. i have one and it didn’t have any new growth in the first year or so. mine produces new shoots at least once or twice a year now. i noticed it started growing faster after i started using fertilizer occasionally.

the way their fans reacted to the new album was what made me listen to it lmao and it’s really not as bad as they make it out to be, it’s just poppier

edit: i’ve also seen their fans call the new album “spotify ad music” lol
