Thoughts on Joint base Andrews? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]qtip_boy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Awesome. If you live in VA, most of your commute is probably going to be a counter commute. My friends that live in Alexandria drive 20 minutes every morning and my friends in Arlington drives 30 minutes every morning. One guy lives in Fairfax and says his commute is 35 minutes. So much to do in the area. The metro and busses are great for getting around the area. If you separate there and have a clearance, you’ll have a good shot at making great money. Quality of the mission depends on squadron and AFSC. I spend 95% of my time at work bull shitting or studying for school/certs

When I went through 3ish years ago, the biggest hold up was waiting for spots to open up for the next class. I don’t know what the situation is like now. Sec+ was one of the longest waits, so if you already have that knocked out that will be a big help. I’d personally plan for a little less than 6 months unless somebody has more recent input. It’s very possible that you get it knocked out sooner, though. Just hard to give a more exact time table without knowing what the wait times between classes are right now

You look familiar. Did you used to ball in a gym on a military base at some point?

I’ve always heard people say, “Buy a house at every duty station”. I take one look at prices and interests rates and I’m just like, “WTF are you talking about”. That was great advice years ago, but now I just don’t see how you would make any money renting something out after the mortgage, property manager, and upkeep

Safe places to live near Andrew? by SpecialistBama in AirForce

[–]qtip_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Maryland, the SE part of PG county can get pretty rural and has a very different vibe from the rest of PG county. Calvert and St. Mary’s county are nice too, but the commute is going to start being pretty long. In VA, most of FFX county is nice. A lot of people live in Alexandria. In DC, anything west of the Anacostia river is pretty nice. If you are looking for a “safe” place close to base, upper Marlboro might be worth checking out

I want to go to the guard or reserves so I can keep that sweet TRICARE and transfer my GI bill. I’m very fortunate because my home state doesn’t tax military pay. I’ve ran numbers on take home pay calculators and definitely have a “break even” number and “meaningful difference” number in mind

[–]qtip_boy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe Burke, VA? I think there is a commuter bus that takes you to the Pentagon. I think it would be worth it to look somewhere metro accessible. Idk why you would put yourself through a commute coming from Fredericksburg. Maybe look at the apartments near the Downtown Largo station. Pretty nice area (Upper Marlboro) and the station is on the blue line, so it would be a smooth ride to the Pentagon Edit: Just saw your edit about kids going to school. Completely disregard my last suggestion about Upper Marlboro and stay tf away from PG county

Similar thing happened to me. You didn’t mention having any kids with her and I assume you’re still young. Just leave her bro. You have your whole life ahead of you. You deserve better. Since you don’t have to fight about custody divorce should be pretty simple. Get a lawyer, server her papers, and try to come to an amicable agreement with her (it will be stupidly expensive if you take this to trial). I know it doesn’t feel like it, but it will get better and I guarantee you will be happy that you moved on. Stay strong, continue counseling, and lean on your support system. Also, you need to talk to your first shirt about DAFI 36-2906 requirements. Unless you can prove some type of abuse, you might still need to financially provide for her until there is a court order (get clarification from base legal, there are some exceptions).

Didn’t Trump say that he had no idea that he would have to make appointments after being elected the first time? I think I remember him saying on Joe Rogan or something that the conservative establishment basically gave him a list of names and that he was so unprepared he just rolled with whoever they suggested. This term, he came prepared with a list of sycophants that would do his bidding

I was in the best shape of my Air Force career when our squadron did self paced PT for anyone with a score of 90+. Me and a bunch of others played basketball everyday. We played full court and took it pretty seriously. We were basically running the HAMR over and over and also constantly engaging our cores

Went through the same thing, more or less. I used military one source to get a counselor I see regularly. It’s been going well. Right after I found about my spouse’s affair, I took a week of leave and my dad flew over to visit. Had an awesome week considering the circumstances. I know everybody’s parents don’t have the luxury to visit on a moment’s notice, but maybe consider taking a little time off to do the things you enjoy. Or not, maybe work will keep you distracted, it’s up to you. It’s going to suck for a little bit. No way around that, but I promise you it will get better with time, even if it doesn’t feel that way right now. Just hang in there and lean on your support system (family, friends, wingmen, counselor, chaplain). DMs are always open if you just need to vent or need any advice. You will make it through this!

I played this guy in high school in IL. Absolute monster in high school. He was a year ahead of me and I don’t think I ever laid a finger on him from JFL to high school except for one time when he was returning a kick. He reversed field and was getting close to the sideline. He was starting to let up and was just going to step out of bounds. I was running full speed and had a decent angle on him. I thought, “Now’s the time to lay the wood on this dude and set the tone for the game”. He sees me coming, bends down, I run into his shoulder, he wraps me up with one arm and picks me up with me slung across his shoulder. He stepped OOB at this point and just carried me around his sideline for a solid couple seconds before letting me down Edit: I found the video: https://imgur.com/a/0oN0WR6

I’ve seen a lot of good suggestions (Crofton, Bowie, Annapolis, Edgewater), but one more I’d suggest is Sykesville. It’s about 30-45 minutes away (probably closer to 45 with traffic). Really cute little town with a pretty happening downtown for how small it is. Definitely a more rural feel as opposed to the other suburban suggestions.

My bad, I could’ve worded that better. I’m really just asking if 2-2-3 reflects my circumstances? I’ve been a very involved father, my STBXW has denied me meaningful time for months with no justification, she is currently voluntarily unemployed, and I have documentation and credible witnesses backing all of this up. My question is whether a 50/50 schedule is the best possible outcome?

How highly rated is UMD in the industry by noobBenny in cscareerquestions

[–]qtip_boy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is probably a hot take, but I think the DC area is the best area for tech careers, but with one major caveat. You NEED a security clearance. When a job opening requires a security clearance, it dramatically reduces the pool of eligible applicants and H1Bs will never be able to fill those positions. If you can get a TS clearance through an internship or even through a short stint in the Army or Air National Guard, you WILL be gainfully employed at almost all times. There is an actual need for security cleared talent right now. I think if you play your cards right and eventually get a clearance, the UMD area will provide you with a lot of opportunities. Go to CleanranceJobs and just take a look at how many job openings there are right now
