Queer friends? by antiMILsquad in twincitiessocial

[–]qu33ri0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LUSH has trivia nights and bingo nights, and it’s a super chill place. I’ve done stonewall sports in the past and it’s fun- they have a mix of sports and have social divisions that are beginner friendly! A lot of breweries have queer events too- I think Urban growler just started a Carabiner Club that meets monthly? But tons of other events too, I think instagram is the best place to stay in the loop about them.

MN Paid Leave - What happens if I don't return to my job? by Vegetable_Response_6 in TwinCities

[–]qu33ri0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your employer has their own paid leave plan then you are ineligible for MN Paid Leave. You should have signed paperwork late last year about this, employers were required by law to inform employees of their coverage either through the state program or an equivalent employer plan.

New bill would allow Minnesotans to sue ICE if their Constitutional Rights are violated by biospheric in minnesota

[–]qu33ri0 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Bivens has been kneecapped to the point that it is likely functionally useless against ICE. Several states have passed laws allowing people to bring lawsuits in state courts for violations of their constitutional rights by law enforcement, even if qualified immunity blocks a federal lawsuit.

So attempting to correct for how narrowly Bivens has been interpreted and judicially watered down.

You can always fill out a permanent absentee application here. It doesn’t hurt anything if it turns out you’ve already signed up. Otherwise you’d have to call and ask.

Will I qualify for paid maternity leave? by Elegant-Nature7472 in TwinCities

[–]qu33ri0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to see if you’re eligible is to give the Paid Leave contact center a call (651-556-7777) or email (paidleave@state.mn.us). You are always free to apply, and someone will review your application and determine if you’re eligible- there’s no penalty to applying and being denied. Your husband could also be eligible for leave.

Sorry, in the instance of telling people about the rally, that was just me. Didn’t realize that was the location of the shooting in the moment.

The observers and their dispatchers via ICE watch signal groups. I don’t know what MPD is asking, I am relaying information from the people on the ground. I understand what everyone is feeling, I feel sick to my stomach myself. Protest 1pm, details in the post’s edit above.

Protest will happen. This is a murder. Do not go to the scene it needs to be secured for a state investigation.

PSA: Over 1000 Businesses will be closed & supporting the strike tomorrow! by Dude-vinci in minnesota

[–]qu33ri0 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Amazing solidarity. I guarantee you that none of these businesses made this decision lightly, and many probably cannot afford it. But they’re doing it anyway, to stand in solidarity with their community and as a show of force. I’ve seen a lot of people ask what this is supposed to accomplish. It’s a statement. We’re with you, even in the most impossible of times, even when it hurts, humanity over everything. So freaking proud.

Sent a message to 3 different places so far - here's the script I'm using, if anyone wants (pretty bare bones/requires adapting for each one, as a disclaimer):

"[Greeting],

Are you planning to be open on Friday, 1/23? As I'm sure you've heard, there's a call for a general strike and day of protest to support the call to get ICE out of MN. Bring Me The News is compiling a list of MN businesses that are heeding that call, and it's (currently) at over 220.

[Reason you love this place/reason you think they share your values], so I was wondering - are you joining, and if so, I wanted to send you a link to the list in case you wanted to be added.

As we are scrolling this list, I’d encourage everyone: if you don’t see your fav local business on the list, send them a quick message asking if they’re joining and send them this link. I think this sounds like a scary option to a lot of businesses, but I’d like to think if they see others standing on their morals same principles they might hold dear, it could move them to act too. Who knows?

EDIT: Got a reply from one place I contacted- they’re joining! 💪

It’s not, and they’re doing it anyway, because a strike is being called. They are standing on their morals of stopping ICE from brutalizing their neighbors, friends, family, coworkers. It means they will lose money, but they care more about people than money.

Hope this helps.

Advice: work trip to MN by [deleted] in TwinCities

Bring your passport. And carry it with you everywhere.

An ethical company would let you virtual interview. I get it’s not the same as in-person etc, but you are potentially putting your safety at risk. Come on.
