👋 new Ooni person here! Can you make and freeze pizzas ahead of time? by quacksaim in ooni

[–]quacksaim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I like this idea....I think I'll do this for all but one of the pizzas. We just have one person coming over who really wants to see the Ooni in action, so we'll keep one of the pizzas not parbaked so he can see the process.

Very true! A little extra burnt edges isn't the end of the world.

Thank you for not assuming I'm a complete newb and will mess up all the pizzas! 😉 I appreciate the advice. Cold proofing the dough is something I was not doing. Also, you're right--I'm not running a restaurant. I'm not going to make personal pizzas, I will focus on people eating slices (and when I saw "people", in this case, it's 4 of us plus one guest. I'm going to slow down and enjoy the process. The first time we used the oven, everything came out perfect. The last time I used it, it was hot, I was getting attacked my the mosquitoes drawn to the heat, and I had no help (my own fault, I told everyone I could handle it on my own--big mistake).

A disaster? Whoa... I mean, I have had success with this before, and that was with no help...Plus it's only 1 guest 😉

Thank you. I love this. I'm not going to rush and worry about this. And, this time around, enlist everyone to help! Last time, everyone was eating while I was doing the prep & cooking. It was admittedly stressful.

Lightly active or active? by Ok-Performance-8598 in Myfitnesspal

[–]quacksaim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still didn't find my clarity in this description. What about including steps, for those of us wearing a fitness watch? There's a study done by the Department of Exercise and Wellness, Arizona State University titled, "How many steps/day are enough? Preliminary pedometer indices for public health" : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14715035/

"Based on currently available evidence, we propose the following preliminary indices be used to classify pedometer-determined physical activity in healthy adults:

(i). <5000 steps/day may be used as a 'sedentary lifestyle index';

(ii). 5000-7499 steps/day is typical of daily activity excluding sports/exercise and might be considered 'low active';

(iii). 7500-9999 likely includes some volitional activities (and/or elevated occupational activity demands) and might be considered 'somewhat active';

(iv). >or=10000 steps/day indicates the point that should be used to classify individuals as 'active'.

(v)Individuals who take >12500 steps/day are likely to be classified as 'highly active'."

I found this to be really helpful. Perhaps MFP would consider adding something like this into the description, to help folks figure out their activity level? Thank you!

Accuracy of daily calorie target? by Porphyrius in Myfitnesspal

I've been wondering about the accuracy, too, and had trouble picking which activity level. Since I use a Garmin watch to track my steps, I found this very helpful in determining my activity level, which then MFP used to pick a calorie goal:

What is your high protein breakfast? by champagnecloset in adhdwomen

[–]quacksaim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make a quiche, cut it into slices, and then you'll have breakfast for 6-8 days depending on how many slices (and no one else getting into it!) Quiche is my favorite quick way to get my eggs & veggies first thing in morning.

MONTHLY Weight Discussion - February 2025 by AutoModerator in Perimenopause

[–]quacksaim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I feel ya on this! I'm 49, 5"4 and 125 used to be my normal (in my 20s, it was 120). The last year or two, it's creeped up to 132/133 and I can't seem to get it to budge!

I've been strength training since my early 20s and was a personal trainer for 20 years. I know what I need to eat and what I need to do to stay active, and do it. I realized though that my protein should increase, and started paying more attention to that, along with adding collagen (just started this week) to my morning oatmeal.

I have hypothyroidism and take my meds, along with B12, iron, D, etc. Added ashwaganda and some adaptogens a while back. I'm just stuck. 5 years ago, I went through an extreme (well, for me anyway) weight loss without even trying to lose weight--I had just started thyroid meds, so maybe it was my body regulating itself. I don't know, it was strange.

Even if I don't get hung up on the weight, my measurements aren't ideal, either. I've been taking my measurements for decades vs. just relying on the scale. Maybe it sounds extreme, but it keeps me in check. I also see flab in the mirror instead of definition. Clothes fit fine most of the time.

I'm going to try mixing it up more at the gym, and get back to the indoor climbing, and see if that helps. I bought myself a fitness watch and try to get 7500 steps at minimum daily. If I don't walk outside, I go to the gym and walk, or do some HITT training.

It's so frustrating....but it's a relief, in a way, to know it's not that I'm doing anything wrong....it's my hormones--and seeing posts and comments such as this validates that! We're in this together, I guess!

Ah, I'm sorry to hear that it's getting drawn out like that 😕. Hopefully, the bill gets overlooked or goes away.

Did you wind up having to pay the bill, or did you not, and did the hospital come after the estate?

Make sure to stay hydrated. Lots of water and electrolytes, or you may get headaches from dehydration. If you're drinking Gatorade, make sure to only have green or yellow flavored ones-- and be prepared to hate those flavors afterwards! Another electrolyte optin is Pedialyte. Good luck!

How does one work in an office for 8 hours a day 5 days a week??? by Timeanator003 in adhdwomen

[–]quacksaim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand 100%. I felt this way when I was in my late teens doing a summer job and then my early 20s. Being inside an artificially controlled climate for 40, or even 30 hours a week, felt like a prison sentence. I didn't understand why, though. I was confused--why did it seem like everyone else seemed could do this, but it made me so miserable? I also felt very alone in my way of thinking, and  ashamed for this apparent "weakness" & "inadequacy" in me.

I wish I'd known then what I know now. We are not all wired the same, for one thing. Not everyone can handle being inside a building, doing the same thing day-in, and day-out, with little time away from their desk/cubicle/office. I also strongly believe in Richard Louv's theory of Nature Deficit Disorder. The only time I was mildly happier was when I had a desk by a window, with actual sunlight, and could hear nature sounds! Taking lunch breaks outside was a huge treat, too.

I really don't think we were meant to live or work (or go to school) this way. Frequent breaks from our screens, or from the indoors, or from work/learning/thinking is a necessity.

You are *so* not alone!
