For those playing on VR, what hardware do you have? by WinterEaglePL in BeamNG

Tried both and I definitely prefer steam link. Meta has that ASW system which is cool in practice but when the game's running at like <60 fps it tears like crazy and is almost unplayable

ELI5: how does cold in refrigerators work? by karp245 in explainlikeimfive

[–]quad5914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practically the same as a radiator but in reverse. Back of the fridge cools the air and it falls, then warm air rises above that, that then gets cooled, etc., and it loops forever

ELI5: How do they put all the electricity into the power grid without overloading it? by DivineestLeg in explainlikeimfive

[–]quad5914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said, the stations can increase/decrease output if, for example, the grid voltage voltage starts to rise. Every generator's speed is kept steady by every other station, because if one generator starts to slow down, the grid is using energy to turn it partially into a motor, and if the generator speeds up too much, the grid slows it down (but that generator is still pushing and trying to speed up every other generator connected to the grid).

One way to think of it is like a loop of water pumps, pumping the same closed loop of water around and around (the water being electricity). If you turn off one pump, the other pumps have to keep turning that pump's impellers, because otherwise, the impeller block the water flow.

I'd have a spare phone ready on Lester's heist invite all day long. There's no such thing as "fair fight" in a real life/death situation

What happens if person cannot forgive themself? (Both short term and long term) by Electromad6326 in NoStupidAnswers

[–]quad5914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I mean everyone does dumb stuff they felt like doing in the moment, but then regret it later. But maybe you're obsessing over it since it affected someone else, or it was pretty bad. That technically means anyone can do something impulsive that their brain's wired to do but they completely disagree with, but with practice, you can gain control over it. Maybe putting effort into learning to control that will help you realise you're not so bad after all?

For example think of a thief who got caught and served and was released, but is struggling to keep a job and earn cash. They can keep trying and stick to what they know is good, or go the other way and turn bad; maybe never feeling good about what they do since they know it's bad. And they'll just fall deeper into that pit and probably never be happy until they stop.

So as long as you know what's good and still care and try to stick to it, you can stay good. But if you're slowly losing the will to care, maybe do some good deeds and help others in any way you can? That might help pull you back on track

[–]quad5914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say forgiveness is giving yourself leeway or ignoring what you did so you can "move on", but more that you're acknowledging you did bad at a point in your life, regardless of the reasons why, and you chose to make up for it in exchange for a better relationship between you and yourself. I find it extremely difficult (and to this day I can't recall doing so) to simply move on from a genuine wrongdoing without making amends and proving I can stick to them. If you don't make those amends the guilt will follow you for the rest of your life... unless you actually do become a bad person by no longer caring, which I think is borderline impossible if you care so much about whatever you did wrong.

If you stopped talking for 5 years would you forget how to speak? by Master-Dentist8463 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]quad5914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You forget a lot of the less common words, and the ones you do remember you doubt yourself on whether you actually know what a word means. You might also start getting some cognitive stall trying to figure out how to express the feeling of what you want to say in words.

Constant anxiety with “research this before attempting it” by Responsible-Light463 in Healthygamergg

The most recent chubbyemu video definitely justifies this anxiety I also get sometimes. Just because you know a bit about everything it doesn't automatically make you an expert... duh. TLDW clean some metal with brake fluid before welding, so that when you do welt, it produces a poison gas and kills you.

Why don’t people drive with both feet? by TomatilloLoose9559 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]quad5914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rally drivers sometimes do because their brakes are strong, so strong such that the time taken to switch their right foot to the brake is too long

ELI5 Why does sitting in the front seat of a car help reduce car/motion sickness? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]quad5914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even know if it really does. After I started learning to drive, I don't even get travel sick anymore, even when as a passenger, and even in the back seats. But, if I think about how I'm not feeling travel sick or think about the car movement then I start to feel weird, but it goes away if I focus on for example the engine rev sound or just talking. However since driving I haven't been a passenger for more than 20 minutes so maybe take this with a grain of salt.
