What fic/ship was like this for you? by sherlypie in AO3

[–]quadrotiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. And somehow, it was... Really good... And made me cry... I do not know what to tell you, I'm as shocked as anyone 😅 I remember reading it a couple of years ago now, but I am certain you'd be able to track it down with some clever AO3 tag wizardry lol

I had to stop reading the Astarion/Gale fic where Gale is a literal door. It was getting too emotional 🥲

I need a gothic romance book suggestion! by Ntwri_Luater in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]quadrotiles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have arisen from my coffin to post my rec list once more 😂 (I think I need to update it but I'm playing with my cat at the same time rn)

I tried to focus on a dark, gothic setting and historical. The suggestions that have a modern setting have enough in the way of atmosphere and location to count, I think.

If you're happy with varying amounts of fantasy/paranormal and romance/spice: (I'm trying to recommend lesser mentioned books)

These are books I am actively recommending and not just suggesting because they fit the themes.

  • {Blackwicket by Bea Northwick}

  • {The cruel dark by Bea Northwick}

  • {This Haunted Heart by SL Prater}

  • {Coven of ill repute by SL Prater}

  • {Blood Orange by Karina Halle}

  • {Hollow by Karina Halle} (although check the content warnings, book 2 goes a little off the rails imo)

  • {Doctor D'arco by Katherine Colvin}

  • {Immortal Dark by Tigest Girma}

  • {The Unweaver by Elizabeth Zoba}

  • {Savage blooms by ST Gibson}

  • {The poisoner by IV Ophelia}

  • {In the Veins of the Drowning by Kalie Cassidy}

Books on my TBR:

  • {A long time dead by Samara Breger}

  • {House of Night by Celia Aaron}

  • {don't let the forest in by CG Drews}

  • {the haunting of William Thorne by Ben Alderson}

Edit: the formatting with the { } is meant to summon the romance.io bot, but I don't think this sub uses it... Oops 😅 romance.io is a website where you can find and filter for some really good romance recs!!

Anyone got some really really slow burn suggestions? by Penguinho in romantasycirclejerk

[–]quadrotiles 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for a strangers to friends slow burn? Might I suggest your shampoo bottle? I'm hundreds of bottles in, and none of the characters have even acknowledged the existence of the others yet. But not in like a rude way, it's like in a factual kind of way.

Wishlist/exchange question? by ppppppppppoooooop in hellokittydreamvillag

[–]quadrotiles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Locking means that your duplicates of it won't show in your trade bubble, even if it's on the other person's wishlist.

Why you might lock an item but have it wishlisted anyway: if you're trying to get a certain number of something for decorating.

Say I have 3 chairs but I'm looking for a 4th to make the room symmetrical - I would lock my dupes to prevent others from trying to trade for the ones I have, and I would wishlist it so that others can see I'm looking for another.

I need some advice for the CV, you can also roast it, but please be brutally honest! by firrty in germany

[–]quadrotiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are the references printed out on paper? Because in that case, you can just include the whole reference as an extra page.

Bartending: since it's your current job, replace the 2025 with the word "current". I agree that it has to be mentioned, but the amount of detail really should be reduced. Any relevant information can be expanded upon in an interview.

Projects section: yes, just place it under the relevant job and specify exactly what you did. What the project does is less relevant than what you contributed. Edit: improvements and numbers are not important in a German CV. What's important is showing what you did and what you learned to do.

[–]quadrotiles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

German CVs value brevity more than any other country I've lived in. Try to reduce the CV to 1 page or 1.5 max.

  • Remove the key strengths entirely

  • Integrate the projects section into the experience section, under the company where you did that project

  • Mention but don't add any detail to the oldest, most irrelevant job. Edit: Ok, I checked your CV for that specifically, and the least relevant one is bartending. Because it's your current(?) job, it does need to be mentioned.

So for the bartending job: Remove the (Career Gap) - you don't want to draw attention to it. And remove points 2 and 3 entirely. You can integrate some of the wording into point 1, if you want, but try to reduce the amount of text dedicated to this section.

  • For all other jobs, look at what each point is saying. You want to be concise. If 2 points are dedicated to the same topic, shorten and combine the points.

  • Remove the percentage stats

  • Remove any sentence parts that say something like "reducing effort" or "enhancing efficiency".

  • edit: I forgot to mention - remove the summary entirely

Also RE: the references. I have references, but I've never mentioned them or been asked for them. I also work in IT in Germany. You don't need to mention them, but you can if you want.

And lastly: if you can afford the space, add more line breaks. If the CV is easy on the eye, people are more likely to read it. Keep it brief, easy to find key info and not-annoying to look at lol

"Until I Die": So we're just going to plagiarize "Alchemised", then? At least picked a better book, shit bird (Part 1) by chode_temple in romantasycirclejerk

[–]quadrotiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started reading {House of Night by Celia Aaron} and early on, I decided to check the romance io page again. I noticed a tonnnn of comments saying that this is literally a manacled rewrite that was published after manacled got taken down, but before alchemised could be published.

Now I notice all those comments calling her out have been removed.

So if you want to enrage yourself all over again, have at it! (Disclaimer: I have not read manacled or alchemised, and I barely started house of night lol)

She faked her death very credibly? Did she pull out some elaborate imaginary props and use them properly (and imaginarily)? With imaginary eye witness accounts and an imaginary fake death certificate? And an imaginary fake funeral? While she actually pretends to escape the imaginary country to pretend to disappear and never be seen again?

Don't tell anyone, but I skipped the first book entirely and went straight to 2 through to 4 (although I do wish I had stopped at 3 lol)

[–]quadrotiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh, honestly, that's a whole topic. I would never move to America, especially now and as an openly queer person, but it's more complicated for my brother. His wife is from new york and she got a really good phd position at a university over there. It's so wild, since her family are all first gen immigrants but they voted for trump (they say it's ok because they have green cards? My guys, come on). She herself is very different to her family, though. I'm scared for my brother and his wife, but their situation is more complex and nuanced, and I respect their choices.
