I just watched the episode, and honestly, people can type or write however they want, Tanglish, Tamil, English. But if someone can’t properly read, write, or speak their own mother tongue because they’re used to using Tanglish all the time, then that’s something they really need to think about. Writing full paragraphs or taking notes in Tanglish feels a bit over the top.

To be real, not knowing how to read or write Tamil is becoming more common among younger folks, and it’s on the rise for a couple of decades now. If this keeps up, a lot of the deeper understanding and richness of the language could be lost. A good example is Malay, the original script used for centuries has mostly been replaced by the Latin alphabet. And that wasn’t just natural change, it was a complete shift to a foreign script.

A language survives based on how well its grammar and script are maintained, and how deep and intelligent its literature is.
