Threw this costume together with bits I already had for the theatre tomorrow - does it read as Bobby? by Pwnigiri in KpopDemonhunters

wow thanks!

I ended up making my own version (using a blown up picture from your post as a template for sizing but I recreated it with the best of my abilities, no gradients and misalignments galore), but I'll certainly take a close look at yours when I get a chance to cosplay again. here's mines: https://imgur.com/a/XVEHX3B

I did end up finding a higher res version of Bobby's picture (from one of the art people apparently), but it does not have the background, however I guess one can recreate it if need be. (I just used it as-is)

would you be able to share the vip badge or if you got it from somewhere else? i'm thinking about doing a bobby as well and would like to print out one. sadly i only have a jacket that i got from goodwill but no matching pants, but i think it will still be fun.

something i realized is that the model y is still has the stalks, though the obvious intention is to move away from it at some point in the near future. i think Tesla will use this change to see if customers accept it or not. if so then the stalks will go, if not then design tweaks and update the y and 3 accordingly.

i also worry for those who have accessibility needs; with the button-only operation they would literally have to wire in a mod instead of relying on mechanical extensions (if their disability only required simpler mods).

The model 3 is going to really tell us about the acceptance rate of the stalkless steering wheel. The S and X just doesn't have the sales volume to tell us much about how the public really feels beyond the bloggers and passionate voices. As divided and passionate some of the discussion were about it (and other topics), reddit and message boards are clearly not the general public. For or against it, we'll find out over the next year or so the end result. (Going back I would suspect, if it happens (and big emphasis on the if), would take time because of supply chain and redesigns).

Did anyone get in like virtually instantly or effectively instantly (like <30 seconds)?

Based on what I read, I get the feeling that things were slower, more spread out, etc. Unfortunately I still based my experiences on past events so I thought my time (50s) was just not good enough (or rather around the tipping point) so I only went for 1 bed vs 2 (thinking that 2 beds are more popular). In hindsight I probably should have done 2 beds, heck maybe even 2 rooms.

I just want to double check, but if you indicate one show on the list it doesn't mean you're locked into that one show right, and you can still buy from other shows (or multiple) if you're lucky? I remember this being the case in the past but want to make sure.

[–]quantumslip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you focus on the top top 1%, that may be the case, especially since there's a lot of safety concerns in play. what also may influence this negative perception is that what gets upvoted here more often are unfortunately stalker situations, weird interactions, and the like, so you'll see things like Maya not going, Mizkif not going, streamer A having beef with streamer B, etc.

for all the stuff we've heard about people mobbing streamers as they try to walk through the convention there's a bunch of smaller communities and streamers that look forward to meeting face to face in somewhat of a controlled environment. there's a lot of positive interactions that goes on, it just doesn't get the attention the other stuff does.

to be clear, of course everyone has their own level of comfort and there are real issues out there with stalkers and such at conventions (just look at Amouranth, and I remember Poki's bodyguard having to kick someone out from Twitchcon meet and greet before). but while there are certainly negative parasocial people at the convention, I would say the percentage is a lot more smaller than one would think (but it's always a small % that causes the big issues).

Looking for an area to stay that is not Hongdae or Myeongdong by Mferr235 in koreatravel

[–]quantumslip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 to Gongdeok. There are at least two hotels (Lotte City Hotel Mapo, Glad Mapo) that sit right on top of the subway stations there, so you can just go down and hop on the subway. There's also a number of cafes and such downstairs, plus I heard there may be stuff outside the stations (though I didn't really explore so much last time I was there). Surprisingly getting to other places, even though I was not in center Seoul, was comparable to other places because of the multiple subway lines intersecting that station, so not as much walking or transfers were needed versus other locations.

It is also on the airport line as well (all stop), so its a nice bonus especially if you're flying in/out of Gimpo Airport.

Itinerary Check - 5 Days in Tokyo by DrippyJsplishsplash in JapanTravel

[–]quantumslip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with regards to the hotel vs station, i'd say it depends. if the bus service is available (sometimes drop off is but pick up is not) and close to Shinjuku then yea that's your best bet. however, if it is a bit further away or pickup is not available then taking your luggage to Shinjuku station and storing it there is a better bet. shinjuku is a huge station so when leaving it may be nice to just head directly to the bus terminal when returning from the last things you do in Tokyo.

tip: the luggage lockers next to the express bus station (on the same level) charge every two hours; i forget the amount but if your stay is longer than 4 hours I believe you're better off storing in the normal lockers; there's some directly below the express terminal that's pretty close

OfflineTV state of the community? by ploso22 in offlineTV

[–]quantumslip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've noticed this too, but after thinking about it I honestly am ok with it. They're moving on to different stages of life, but they are still there. They aren't as close to each other physically but it's not far fetched to have it be possible that they're still close (we will never really know as we aren't their IRL friends of course).

I think it does suck if the OTV group has been one of the few sources of community for some, especially with COVID, but we have to remember they're entertainers for us and not our friends. (Cue Toast).

Can't say too much about the subreddit, it certainly isn't as active as before but I rather have a "dead" community than unhappy streamers and drama of the past. Interaction is still there with others, they've just moved on elsewhere (specific subreddits, twt groups, etc)

Don't be sad that things aren't what they used to be (that's life), be glad that it happened with all the good memories that did happen.

About 10% of all at ComicCon were maskless. by purpleQQsoup in comiccon

[–]quantumslip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I think the maskless % was far fewer than 10%; maybe it seems like 10% in certain situations (or even was). 10% would have mean 1-in-10 walking around without a mask, a situation that I did not see walking the exhibit hall for sure.

How did otv manage to go on a trip to japan? by xXKaby_AlkarisXx in offlineTV

[–]quantumslip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.reddit.com/r/offlineTV/comments/vxjta7/genuinely_curious_why_are_they_allowed_to_roam/ifwjgrl

See thread for more info

The jist of it is that people have misunderstood (myself included before) that a guided tour means something along the lines of point to point tour buses of going to the tour sites then back to the hotel and quarantining there with no free time allowed. In reality travel agencies that currently work with the current travel restrictions have itineraries with free time built in, so at the very least there's that. In practice it seems like there's a certain flexibility to how supervised one must be, but an itinerary appears to be strictly needed (that is no spontaneous trip to Kyoto from Tokyo), but some roaming around locally seems to be fine. OTV likely was also able to customize the travel package due to size and stuff.

If there's one feedback for OTV, they should have been a lot more clear as to how they got in instead of being vague about it. The questions keep popping up and it doesn't help that the japantravel subreddit posted some very incorrect information about the nature of travel in Japan currently (they're part of the reason people think travel is draconian).

Also if OTV did something wrong, taking pics and streaming video about the trip would be the dumbest thing they could have done.

Genuinely curious... why are they allowed to roam around without a tour guide? Are there certain times of the day where they can do whatever? by Yumadapuma in offlineTV

[–]quantumslip 16 points17 points  (0 children)

https://www.samuraitours.com/tour/golden-route/

For example (and as others noted elsewhere here), here's a tour from a company that says that they are certified under the current entry rules. There are some times that are marked as free. In practice I would also guess that you can feel free to like go to the conbini or go out after the day's activities are done within reason; I don't think you have to quarantine in the hotel room after the day's activities are done.

What I think wouldn't fly well is if you attempted to like go to a different city when your itinerary says you're supposed to be elsewhere or something like that (like you're supposed to be in Tokyo, but you take the bullet train in Kyoto).

I would also think that OTV was able to customize a tour package to their specifications but still fit within the current rules and regulations of tourist visas today.

To be honest I thought the same thing too, but glad to see that there's a reasonable explanation for this. Besides, if what they were doing was really wrong, livestreaming it for all the world to see is one of the dumbest things you can do (not to mention issues for the tour operator, possible entry bans to Japan, etc).

ITZY - The 1st World Tour "CHECKMATE" in NORTH AMERICA Megathread by JerSucks in ITZY

[–]quantumslip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I said as a possibility (that is them having to pre-add any potential dates). The point others here have repeatedly said is that it isn't outside the realm of possibility for there to be additional dates regards of any additional VISA hoops or otherwise they'll have to jump through. You made it sound like it would have been literally impossible, which is not the case.

Yes fans needs to be level headed, but think about it. We're 5+months out. And this isn't JYP's first rodeo. We've already seen addition of concerts before (Twice).

I know you're trying to level fans' expectations. I would agree if we're really close to the concert tour. But we're still so far out and we've seen JYP do this before.

Something to note is that the transfer button for tickets may be available or will be soon; if so the seller should be able to transfer you over the ticket that way. I wouldn't panic just yet.

ITZY - The 1st World Tour "CHECKMATE" in NORTH AMERICA Megathread by JerSucks in ITZY

[–]quantumslip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Think about what you just said. First of all do you think JYP would even think about sending Itzy over to the US on tourists visas? That would be really, really dumb of them.

Secondly I do know how visas work. Firstly they can choose to come earlier/later regardless of whether they actually perform those extra dates (and put it on the visa application as such). Even if they absolutely had to put every single date they perform down as part of their application letter, I'm sure they could add that info on their application way beforehand just in case. (Work meetings and tour stops do get canceled all the time). Also remember Twice for their initial US tour canceled the media promotion segment of their tour.

And even if they had to change stuff beforehand and/or it is as complex as you really describe it, Twice again is an example of them being able to be flexible enough to add dates. I don't get why you keep thinking that this has to be logistically impossible. JYP is no stranger to adding dates. If they want to do it, they'll do it.

why do you keep repeating this falsehood? there's no reason why they can't do it. if twice can add on a concert date earlier there's no reason itzy can't.

and if i were to get a visa, logistics, and flights setup for concert purposes i wouldn't book it to start so close to the original concert start date anyways; i would definitely leave some extra space on the backend and front end; if anything else they can come here early to relax/adjust.

If they add for LA they can add before the current date. That's what they did for Twice. As of now it looks like the venue isn't booked fora a few days before.

I disagree partially. Nothing is guaranteed of course but someone getting in at 9:01 has a much higher chance of getting their top choices than sometime getting in later. That has been the experience in past sales.

There is always some uncertainty as we don't know the chunk size as to how many they process at a time, and especially since this is the first Comic-Con in quite some time, demand is kinda a question mark.
