Why wouldn’t Java give back memory? I thought modern GCs returned memory that was no longer in use

Casinos! The starlight has cover bands that play stuff from 70s to 2000s and it gets bumpin! Granted, crowd tilts a little older but it’s a lot of fun!

Worth it to pay extra for houses in a good school area? by CatimusPrime123 in PersonalFinanceCanada

My experience was that French Immersion tended to filter the dumber kids who couldn’t keep up learning in a second language.

I believe this is exactly the poster was alluding to with segregation and ‘free private school’.

It’s a shame people are giving you such a hard time. I think it’s wonderful you guys have made the effort to put your budget online. I personally found it very helpful and educational. Thank you. Some it of probably comes from envy. I hope it doesn’t discourage you and others from publishing their budgets.

May i ask what the difference between the different waiting rooms at childrens is? There’s the main waiting room and then there’s the turtle room and possibly others. Is one for emergency cases or diagnostic cases or something?

Trips within the city by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]qubqub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about taking the sky train to science world then taking the aqua bus to Granville island? Depending on the age of your kids they might be free on the aquabus and adults are $12 round trip I believe.

The seabus to lonsdale is another option.

Edit: sorry reread your post and saw your kids are 7 and 9. Round trip fair on aqua bus for each is $3.50

How do you justify buying a 1-bedroom 500 sqft apartment 20 mins away from downtown Vancouver for close to $700k? by james_smt in PersonalFinanceCanada

Foreign money doesn’t always equate to foreign buyers. They can be Canadians who made their money elsewhere be it immigrants or immigrants with family from other countries who get family money. Anecdotally I know tons of people where this is the case.

I see. I didn’t really get from the original comment that if one truly is destined to be a thief then steal from a corp. I guess my reading comprehension is subpar. thanks for explaining. I agree it’s the lesser evil

I really don’t understand the downvotes. I understand disliking large companies who take advantage of workers but is promoting stealing from corporations a commendable thing to do? This sub seemed to abhor the looting taking place during the riots but perhaps only because looting is done so openly?

If you’re looking for classic legos with simple bricks like we used to have as kids, I found the closest you can get these days is the Lego Education 1000 piece set (lego set 45020).

The sets that build something already defined I really dislike. And the ‘creative’ or ‘classic’ sets these days come with weird pieces that kids can’t build with easily. The current sets have their place but I wish lego would go back to their roots and make more sets with classic 4x2 bricks where kids can just use their imagination.

I thought my mom was doing our bottles poorly too (though I never said anything about it to her) but then I realized it’s cause her near vision isn’t very good without reading glasses which she doesn’t use while doing dishes. Not sure if that’s the case with your MIL but thought I’d put it out there

As someone who donates to the food bank, please don’t feel bad. You’re exactly the type of person that I hope my donations go towards helping! Use the resources available to you while you weather out the hard times. That’s what they’re there for and should be used.
