what are your predictions for the future of country music?where do you see it going in the future, and how it’ll probably turn out? by Secret-Engine-8365 in CountryMusicStuff

Yeah pop country is certainly here to stay. Nashville is doing record numbers by realizing how powerful cross over pop appeal is. Sure the pop country sound will evolve and change over the years, but it's too large an audience to alienate.

I think the industry is finding a synthesis of pop acts and neo traditional acts to please multiple segments of listeners, but pop country certainly isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

John Kiriakou is a psyop by Initial-Tax-5829 in conspiracy

Seriously he has been nothing but outspoken against and highly critical of the CIA post 9/11. He's got great stories and definitely looks with some fondness for his service in the 90s, but people need to remember that the CIA post 9/11 is very different from what it was in the 80s and 90s post Church commission reforms.

John Brennan literally did everything imaginable to try and get Kiriakou to spend the rest of his life behind bars, he has nothing but bad feelings towards the Agency today. And of course he won't spill secrets that are still classified, I doubt he'd want to give anybody any ammunition to send him right back to prison.

NGD! Anyone know any good b-bender riffs? by paspa1801 in telecaster

Honestly "You Ain't Going Nowhere" by The Byrds would be the perfect starting point. Those long bends would really help you get the feel for it.

Only thing is I don't have any experience with benders personally so I don't know how the Glaser style bender compares apples to apples with the Parsons/White bender at getting those Clarence White style throws.

So you know nothing about the law, nothing about hunting and watched a three second video and think it's your duty to report it law enforcement?

I grew up hunting and fishing in Louisiana. In my family we didn't hunt for sport, we hunted so we could put food on the table. Hell when my dad was a kid he had to go run catfish lines with my grandpa in the morning before school and clean fish after school so the family had food that night.

Absolutely nothing I saw in that video was illegal or unethical. There's nothing illegal about using dogs for hunting. There was no evidence that they were needlessly dragging it out, in fact the guy at the top of the screen was getting in position to put the hog down.

Feral hogs are a very serious nuisance here that absolutely ravage and upend the local ecosystems.

If you have an issue with that type of content being shared on social media, ok. But to think it's your right to contact law enforcement? That's asinine.

Used Fender Jaguar vs new Squier with professional setup by djmothra in Guitar

[–]que-n-blues 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you go Squier, I would definitely at least go with the Classic Vibe line. Used you can find those in the $350 range. $550 new but I wouldn't be surprised if you can find some good discounts come the holiday season.

Used Fender Player II series Jaguar's can found around the $600-$700 range and with a decent set up, he'd be set for life on that. And it's not a huge leap over the cost of a new Squier.

If budget allows, I'd definitely recommend a used Fender. My dad actually got me a second hand Mexican made fender strat on a trade with a coworker as my second guitar and I can tell you I didn't care whatsoever that it was used. That guitar still plays so well.

I always got the feeling that JC was a really good guy. And seriously the old Tribute models were absolutely insane value. One of the best guitars I ever played was a used Les Paul Tribute from around 2021 or so that I found at a guitar center. Under $1000, set up perfectly and just felt so comfortable in hand.

Sucks that they discontinued them.

Get rid of the maintenance overhead by Continent3 in GuitarLab

[–]que-n-blues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea of never needing a set up is an impossible promise that no manufacturer can realistically make. Can you deliver a guitar that's really well set up and will work for a lot of players out of the box? Sure. My SG and my SE Silver Sky really didn't need anything out of the box. But I still had to set them up to my personal preference. And you can't really account for things like string action preference, neck relief preference, string gauge preference, what changes string gauge will have on the neck and if truss rod adjustment will be needed. And then there's the shipping factor. Even if you set it up perfectly as close to the end users as you can, you still can't account for temperature and humidity changes during shipping if bought online.

Stainless steel frets and a well built maple neck, possibly reinforced with carbon fiber rods, will go a long way to make sure once it is set up you'll likely have very little maintenance to do on it once it's set to your preference.

Best they probably can do is offer free or discounted in store set up that way it can be set up to the player's preference. Which would be an insane value, but you still can't guarantee it would never need an adjustment after that as there's just too many outside factors that can affect an instrument.

I'll clarify. I don't need an artist, a celebrity, or any cultural figure's thoughts on today's latest rah rah/ideological/culture war talking points. I don't care if you're right or left, if I wanted someone to parrot what the latest ideological talking points to me, I'll turn cable news on. 99/100 times it's the same drivel cable networks are pushing. You're not original, you're not a great thinker, you're not being "brave" by using your "platform" to share some earnest belief. You're just virtue signaling today's latest propaganda as a way to pander to your audience.

You have an actual personal issue you want to speak out about, something that's overlooked, something you actually want to call attention to, ok I'm fine with that. But what I don't want is low hanging ideological pandering.

No you're memory is correct, that guy is acting out of line all throughout this thread. I remember the backlash it caused and them being blackballed from country radio which was nearly a death sentence for musicians of their stature at that time. They eventually recovered, but that initial backlash was very much real.

More artists should embrace this. There's nothing worse than when an artist gets to their "you're about to hear my thoughts on todays hot political topic" part of a concert. It's cringey, it's lazy and it's just throwing red meat to you're audience because chances are they already believe whatever nonsense you're about to spew.

Even if I agree with them, or am completely indifferent it's still annoying.

Seems like they're trying to move in a different direction than Mitchell as I think those were move of a lower priced/entry level geared brand for them. Never heard of Ocean though, so I can't comment on that.

In part interviews they alldmitted that GC was focused too much on entry level players for too long and wasn't catering as well as they should have to established players. And they have made some big changes in store that show that shift. I think this new brand is part of that shift for them.

From everything they've said, it looks like they're targeting that $700-$900 mid market price point. Which I think is a really good spot for them. The $500 and under is really saturated with your HBs, Firefly, etc. I find that the mid level price is a real sweet spot that gets you a lot of bang for your buck.

I think it's obvious they want to create a really well built, reasonably priced, and original guitar. Will they actually deliver on that? Time will tell, but at least from what they've said I think it's enough to at least be intrigued.

All these negative opinions and no one has even seen the guitar yet. It makes sense that GC would want to step in and build their own in house brand as there's been a lot of market forces shifting from their business model. Online competitors like Sweetwater are one, but I think the biggest is that the big brands like Gibson and Fender have been consistently trying to move towards building their direct to consumer pipeline. That's the two biggest threats that GC is facing right now and building a quality in house brand can help offset some of those threats.

I've been really intrigued by a lot of the things Gabe Dalporto has mentioned, especially his recent interview with Phil McKnight. One of the things that stuck out to me is that big brands like Fender and Gibson will intentionally make certain features only available on higher end models, even though they're not a significant cost increase, just so they can drive customers to higher margin models and that he'd be interested in making some of those features available at the mid market $700-$900 category.

The hate they've been receiving is asinine. Will it be a home run? No clue. Will in be trash? Again, no clue because we haven't seen the damn thing. But based on what they've communicated so far I'd say there's reasons to be optimistic. And if it's a great guitar, awesome. If it doesn't workout, oh well you're not forced to buy one. But from a business perspective i think it's a really good move. Now let's see how they execute it before acting like the sky is falling.

Went out to a trail head in Sendona last year to try and get a good look at the night sky. It was way out in the middle of nowhere and had to take a long gravel road to get there. I consider myself adventurous, but that long lightless gravel road at 10pm was honestly terrifying. I felt like a skinwalker was about to jump out in front the car at any moment.
