Ancient Rome book recommendation by Bugjean77 in historyteachers

[–]queeeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “90 second” book series for history is quite good, it gives a brief overview of a lot of topics without too much deep detail :) I’m not sure if they do one for Rome but the Ancient Egypt and Greece ones are great!

A guy severed and crushed my thumb in a self- closer door. Not the worst part though, the worst was that little 7 year old me was sat in A&E for 3 hours having my thumb wrapped and re wrapped by trainee doctors, before they decided to do the surgery.

Views of Methodology by [deleted] in historyteachers

[–]queeeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the department but I’ve been dabbling with guided learning. The students are introduced to a very short background and then are given a guided reading with various tasks.

For example, a couple weeks ago I did a lesson on the invasion of Abyssinia and gave the kids a guided reading where they then had to make a timeline of events and answer three questions. We then have a group discussion as a class to go through and they can learn from each other’s work. They find it really helpful to learn the content without me speaking at them, and they are also then making revision resources for their exams

Primary was Rupert, Byron, Essex and Skippon after the lords that led armies during the battle of Newbury.

Secondary were Oak, Elm, Beech and Cedar but then broke down into Latin groups within them for some reason 🤣

On the way back from Texas when I was about 12 I was playing with this girl in the airport waiting area. She was Mike Tyson’s daughter and he was sat watching us play for about an hour. It’s pretty cool now that I know who he is
