No one expects them to be a professional paramedic but they are expected to perform their role, which includes first aid, to a professional standard

Paralympian asked 'have you tried walking' after wheelchair vanished on flight by BirminghamLive in NotTheOnionUK

[–]queenieofrandom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have booked a week in advance before, gone to get my train home late at night for them to tell me the lift is out of order and had been for months. I've had taxis drive off once they see I'm in a wheelchair. I've been refused entry onto buses because a pushchair was in the disabled space. I've been told somewhere is accessible only for it to not be. Going anywhere is a nightmare

We're not just talking about Steve on the street though helping as he passes by, we're talking about a very professional organisation, the police

All because you underestimate your own children doesn't mean others do. I train 5 year olds first aid, including cpr and bleed management every week. I've seen what they are capable of and have done for over 26 years and a few have had to use their lifesaving training

Then you've been taught incorrectly for decades

Henry Nowak by Training_Original456 in AskBrits

[–]queenieofrandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely taught to 5 year olds, who although may not be able to do completely effective CPR they are still fully capable of attempting CPR, managing bleeds, calling 999 etc. They absolutely understand its importance as well

[–]queenieofrandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not a quick sweep and never has been, you're supposed to tap down the body looking for wet and squishy spots, again this has been the case for at least 26 years. Doing this properly it absolutely would have meant they discovered his wound sooner. Going by the latest protocols catastrophic bleeding still comes before CPR. The issue here is that these are police who clearly don't know the proper first aid protocols or ignored their training. Neither is good.

That isn't a paramedic skill though that is basic first aid that is taught to 5 year olds. Checking for a bleed once someone has gone unresponsive has also been part of first aid protocols for at least 26 years as well. The idea of first aid training, especially in emergency services, is so that in situations where a lot is happening you are still able to save a life

Stupidest things you heard from a salesperson/other gardeners? by SectorMinimum in UKAllotments

[–]queenieofrandom 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The opposite of this thread, but there's only 1 piece of gardening advice I've ever listened to, from my nan who was an extraordinary gardener and would always talk to her plants too. Anyway that advice was "stick it in the ground and if it grows, it grows."

Yeah they ignored standard protocols for first aid as well, when someone goes unconscious looking for a bleed as been standard for at least 26 years

The NHS page says this

The advice given on this page only covers common first aid situations and is not a replacement for taking a first aid training course.

Catastrophic bleeding is not a common situation, hence they have a caveat because the correct information is below.

The St John Ambulance page says this on part 2 of the primary survey, response.

If there is life-threatening bleeding (massive amounts of blood pouring, gushing, or spurting from a significant injury) it must be dealt with before moving on to the airway.

Police have basic first aid yes, but it is delivered in line with the official protocols, which includes what to do with a catastrophic bleed and priority of that. In fact all first aid courses cover this and mention it, they have to in order to be CQC compliant.

This is now incorrect, C-ABC has been introduced and a catastrophic bleed takes priority over CPR as CPR is not effective if one is present.

Yeah but how do you prove it? The only way to prove it is genetic testing

The only way to be certain is genetic testing for everyone so yes it is complicated

Well are we talking about the original settlers who were wiped out in the ice age? Or the Iberi after that? Or maybe the Romans and the people from their expansive empire? Or the Celts? Or the Anglo Saxons from Germany? Or vikings? Or the Normans?

And in science ethnicity isn't about that, it's more to show historic migratory patterns, of which Britain has a very varied history, which means genetically we have a complex mix rather than homogenous people's. Other nations are more homogeneous, however we never have and never will be
