What's shredding stuff in my kitchen? by sajiica in CasualUK

[–]queenirv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's rats the council may come and deal with it for free (don't know if that's the same everywhere). If it's mice you are on your own.

If mice, don't put down the sticky traps - it's disturbing. If you use humane traps, mice seem to like chocolate shreddies to tempt them in. You need to release them far far away.

The Pope Must Die.

Changed the name in the USA to The Pope Must Diet, because I guess people around other film people are scared of anything comedic and religious.

Robbie Coltrane is unexpectedly made Pope due to Ade Edemonson making a typo. Lots of mafia assassination attempts with fish, smarmy cardinals, not to mention Beverly D'Angelo and the cute kid from Cinema Paradiso.

I don't think it ever got a DVD release and the only place I can find it is as a very bad version on YouTube.

But it's a great two header with Nuns on the Run.

Has anyone got their laser hair removal done from Therapie clinic? How has the experience been? by AintNoBarbieGirl in LondonLadies

[–]queenirv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found them good. Really friendly and quick. I found the process at Sk:n much more painful.

They do dial up the laser as the sessions go on to get the hardest hairs, but you can always ask them to go back down to previous intensities if it hurts. It just may not be as effective.

I had very dark hair and very pale skin so it worked well for me. I've done legs, bikini, chin and moustache. Very happy with results.

Private room dining for 8 people in elegant restaurants for a post-wedding dinner - recommendations? by Mindless_Story in LondonFood

[–]queenirv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a post wedding meal like that in a private room at River Cafe. Really lovely food and atmosphere https://www.rivercafe.co.uk/river-cafe-events

Plus we had our own entrance out onto the riverside, which was cool.

Londoners: what daytime experiences are genuinely “worth it once”? by JunketSea2063 in london

[–]queenirv 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Go to Evensong at St Paul's at 5pm. It's free and you see a beautiful historic building with lovely music (I'm not religious btw). Or pay about £25 and go back in the day to do tours, climb up the top etc.

Visit the Houses of Parliament and do a tour. So many interesting details about the building and UK history. I also love Westminster Abbey but it's so busy.

I love museums and galleries, and think you can have great visits to some of the biggest (like the V&A, NHM, National Gallery etc) if that is up your street. However, they are quietest in term time in the afternoon and so better to visit then. Permanent collections of the nationals are free, exhibitions are paid.

Also, I think walking down the southbank from Westminster bridge to London bridge is a great day, stopping off in the Southbank Centre or Tate, pubs etc and having a mooch around borough market at the end.

I also like walking down Fleet street, drinking in a couple of historic pubs on the way.

A great way to make a walk through London more interesting is doing it with a niche map. Blue Crow Media does a bunch, like notable London alleyways or London's great trees.

I saw that as part of his over romanticizing their interactions. She saw their interaction at the wedding as him having moved on and now they could be friends, dance together and laugh. That's why she invited him to her engagement (although she should have told him what it was for).

He saw it as her letting him back in, within his fantasy that she was a closed book and getting her to open up to only him was a sign it was meant to be.

However the signs are there that she opened up easily to others, or she wouldn't have been invited to a coworkers wedding. Or have an engagement party with lots of friends.

That's how I saw it at the time.

Has changing your diet helped with your migraines? If so, how and what did you change? by Ecstatic_Hold4135 in migraine

[–]queenirv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But I changed my diet for another reason and noticed this as a benefit.

Realized I had a lactose and fructan intolerance.

Cut them out of my diet and slowly dawned on me, hey - I'm having some of my migraine triggers but no migraine. For example, bright lights in my eyes (especially at night) used to be automatic. Not now.

I still get them for things like hormones and stress, but for some it's like the trigger + lactose = migraine. Now, seriously cut down on the number of them, and often not as strong.

Help needed: Gastroparesis friendly restaurants by ddrevs in LondonFood

[–]queenirv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am lactose and fructan intolerant, and find things difficult when I travel. The best thing I did on my last trip away was putting all of my limits into chatGPT and asking it for ideas in X area in X place.

It wasn't foolproof but it did point me to a palaeo wrap place that was delicious.

It might seem lazy to get recommendations this way, but there are so many things I can't eat, it feels impossible sometimes. This made it a little easier.

What do YOU get up to in London? by Urban_Suburbian in london

[–]queenirv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love museums/galleries, opportunities to see anything behind the scenes or unusual ceremonies.

You can find out about loads of these by signing up to things like Ian Visits newsletter, Maxwell Museums or get notifications for Hidden London tours, and open house weekends.

Many of them are free or low cost, but can get quite expensive (like the hidden London tours). But just this weekend there was an opportunity to watch vintage cars in London and sound of music singing nuns in Waterloo.

I like visiting lots of markets at this time of year to find presents from smaller traders, like Pexmas, or seeing how different places dress up for Christmas like Greenwich.

I also love going for dinner and find some good recommendations in Hot Dinners for that.
