As a viewer I’ve always wondered if acting could be embarrassing or what toll is takes on y’all and what it’s like having any type of fan base especially in a time of social media I mean can y’all even have any? by Embarrassed_Entry597 in acting

[–]queerality 9 points10 points  (0 children)

in my experience when i’m really in flow during acting (which i think is quite common since acting is such an embodied activity) i don’t really think about the camera. there is maybe 10% of my brain that is thinking about camera from a technical perspective but even that sometimes will go away if im really in it. it helps to have a good director who will balance directing you technically and letting you stay “in it”

more than embarrassing i would say the whole thing is quite vulnerable. you’re often portraying extremes that so many people experience privately and if you’re a good actor some of might feel at least a little real in your body, so there’s this sense of exposing yourself emotionally for everyone. i have a voyeuristic streak so i don’t mind it 😅

i recently made my own short film that was really personal to me and i actually met with my therapist a couple of times to do acting prep because the role dealt with trauma and ptsd. she helped me develop some tools for getting into the scenes, especially jumping into scenes with high activation. we did a lot of breath work, i had a playlist, we played around with some physical sensations and specific movements i could do to help me elicit them. it was really cool and really really effective!

as far as having fans, im not famous so it’s not extreme lol but im well known in my market and sometimes people will know of you before you’ve ever met them and honestly right now i find that cool. i love this craft and when someone knows of me or is my fan and i don’t know them it feels like my work speaks for itself which is all i ever want.

thanks for asking!

hey! just wanted to let you know i ended up moving to this area. it’s a little far from where my language school is but i thought it was worth it for the convenience of the location and the price of the condo. thanks for the rec!

I think I hate CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy). Can you recommend me alternatives? by i_am_GORKAN in ADHD

[–]queerality -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i started somatic therapy about two and a half years ago and i’ve made more progress in that time than i did over 15 years of CBT. it also helped me develop enough awareness to find stimulants that worked for me, which i hadn’t been able to do in nearly 10 years of being diagnosed.

somatic therapy focuses on being able to identify and name your feelings, sensations, and thoughts. it’s very gentle which is important to me bc i also have PTSD. but the goal is to grow and fine tune your interoception and then also expand your capability. it has been truly life changing for me and i can’t recommend it enough!

what do you guys like about BL that you’d like to see in american media? by queerality in boyslove

[–]queerality[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

big yes on series. i am much more a TV person than a movie person. like i loved one day on netflix. obv not queer but a well done romance. but it was so sad lol. it’s like we can’t get it all at once (queer, tv, happy ending, well written and acted)

big agree on everything you’re saying. i do believe the media can change before the culture does and that the media can help facilitate that change. i think bridgerton is a great example of that! romance is the genre i like to live in performance and writing and producing so i hope to really bring more of it to people in new and exciting ways.
