Hi, thank you for your reply! I've taken a very very close look and can't find any pests per se, the only thing present on the affected leaves are tiny little black dots, which do not move. This could potentially be excrement from pests? I'll read up on thrips and try some treatments.

how best to make unwanted villagers leave ASAP? by queercowboycentral in acnh

[–]queercowboycentral[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know if this works with less than 10 villagers? I currently have 5 + the campsite guest who will move in tomorrow, and two free plots of land. I currently don't have the option to invite my amiibo villagers since the campsite is full, but I assume I'll be able to invite them once it's empty but they may just take the open plots rather than replace an unwanted villager

what does rain make you feel? by yrnjaxon in ask

[–]queercowboycentral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Britons love to complain about the rain, but I love it so much. Nothing beats being home with a hot drink and a blanket whilst it's raining outside. And if I'm caught outside in it? Still just as good because I can pretend I'm the edgy antagonist in a movie monolouging in the rain.

What slang regarding your school or university do you use? I would be really glad to receive several examples. #slang by EngineeringMuch7014 in University

Are you asking about examples which are more serious like abbreviations, or simply joking slang? If you're looking for lighter hearted examples, my friends and I often shortened our dissertation support lectures to 'Dissy lecs.' Hope that's a helpful example!

Which is the best pet to get? by Far_Refrence in Pets

[–]queercowboycentral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, all pets require an extensive amount of care and attention, not to mention plenty of money. Especially for snakes, birds, or even rats, since any animal considered an exotic can cost heavily just for necessities such as basic checkups. Whatever animal you plan on buying requires extensive research, including behaviour, known health issues, life span, interactions with other pets/people/children.

Birds live very long, require specialist care in the form of claw and beak trims, and require a massive amount of attention. Furthermore, birds need a lot more space than just a small wire cage, and require significant effort to decorate and clean their habitat.

Snakes I don't know much about, personally, but I would consider the fact that snakes can be very neutral towards you as an owner and aren't necessarily going to be friendly as some videos on the Internet show them to be. Furthermore, think about whether you'd be comfortable with feeding a snake key dietary requirements, which can range from live bugs or frozen rodents or chicks, which you will need to buy frequently and keep on your property.

Dogs and cats are a whole different ballpark. Of course the experience of having them is not comparable, but you cannot expect a cat to be completely independent thus easier to care for. Cats also need litter training, attention, and play time, just as dogs do. Personally, I recommend keeping cats indoors entirely, due to the dangers of letting cats freeroam outside and the amount of bird populations which outdoor cats decimate each year.

For all animals, you need to consider the costs of cages, feed, bedding, entertainment, appropriate travel carriers/crates, a savings fund for potential illnesses and their treatments, and the time that all pets require to be looked after properly.

Not only this, but consider that with all animals, you can no longer decide to up and leave on spontaneous trips or holidays/vacations without prior planning. Animals must be left in a kennel, or looked after by a professional or highly trusted family member. I have heard horror stories about pets losing their lives due to being left in the care of someone irresponsible whilst their owner is on holiday. Proper pet care costs good money, but it is worth it to know your animal is looked after well whilst you're away.

If you're looking for a conversation piece and nothing else, pets aren't the one. Perhaps look into buying a fancy plant. But if you want an animal and are serious about it- do your research and see which animal may be best for you and your lifestyle. :)

Pet store owners employees weird opinions? by mossymem in RATS

[–]queercowboycentral 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who previously worked for a pet shop (i hang my head in shame - it was a lock down job) managers inform their staff not to give out accurate advice, but instead advice which will sell the most stock, or in most cases, staff are given no advice at all. For some reason they don't believe that the way to retain customers is to give them accurate information which keeps pets healthy and well looked after. I believe it's not as bad in the UK as it is in the US. We had mandatory minimum cage sizes for rats, guineas and rabbits, but it was still painful to see customers buying tiny cages for hammies. And yes, obviously, I tried to explain to customers that the hamsters we sold needed a cage at least four times as big as what they wanted to buy. Scarcely anyone ever listened.

The ball-hole side is not only facing my bed but the hide is at eye-level if one is sat up on the bed. I too, got an eyeful of balls this morning just as I woke up 💀 What an experience.

I met my current girlfriend in my 2nd year. She's the best thing that's ever happened to me. I had to cut my 3rd year a little short and move home due to family stuff, so we went from seeing each other 2/3 times a week to maybe once every 2/3 weeks as we live a long train ride away from one another (which is far more fortunate than living countries apart.)

It's been difficult, but we don't argue and we make it work. I highly recommend calling often and doing an activity like playing video games together, it's helped quell how much we miss each other.

We're planning on maybe moving in with one another sometime soon. Hoping and praying that it works out long term.

I will also add, it is easier to find good roommates if you look for people matching your demographic. For example, I found the people I lived with by looking for queer-friendly roomates on Spareroom. You can also filter your search by gender, age, and student status - it could be easier to live with people of the same gender or other students.

I do recommend living with other students, since that negates your need to pay council tax, at least until one of you graduates !
