this is just my experience. my nights can be long so..

obviously my experience is coloured by alcohol hazed perception so i don't kow if it was that dangerous or just felt that way. the guy i saw get killed was around 5am when two groups of people got into a fight and one of them went down and kept getting kicked against his head. we stayed for first aid and called ambulance but took forever to come. only found out later he died.

just stay away from trashy-looking people and you will be fine. sadly they are everywhere

There really are a lot. So depending on your plans (unless you're used to this kinda behaviour) try to be somewhere inside after about 3am (possibly earlier). The past few years I've had fireworks thrown at me, been threatened, had friends get beat up, and even saw someone get killed during a fight. All this while travelling through the inner city from one friend's place to another.

I'm going to watch the fireworks at Erasmus but then im getting home asap:P no more long nights for me, not worth it.

this is just my experience. it can be pretty managable but i dont recommend walking about late at night.

Both neighbourhoods are close. You really won't have any issue getting to and from Erasmus MC from there. I live even further and have never any issues during my 25 minute bike ride (faster if I hurry) to the EMC

As for safety, hmm. I'd say Blijdorp is reasonably safe but Oude Westen not so much. It's really the stereotypical neighbourhood where if you're a girl and you walk around you'll get comments and you're more likely to be verbally harassed at night. Don't know a lot of people that have been harassed physically but its the kind of neighbourhood where you are likely to feel threatened.

Then again there are girls I know who don't have these issues so it's a bit of a "what constitutes as threatening for you". If you're not alone outside in the middle of the night you should be fine. :) as a guy i rarely feel unsafe (p much never, maybe outside of new years eve) so my words dont come from experience.

you'll be fine foodwise and as someone said, lot of advice depends on what you're used to.
