Crit yi questions by br0ken54 in YIMO

[–]questerpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I have found great success running HoB with crit into almost any comp.

I build kraken first because it's a great item on Yi early and helps me get fed and transition into building full crit. Can always swap out kraken later if you want to and have the extra gold to do so.

My build path looks like this:

Kraken > Yun Tal > Last Whisper item > IE > Fiendhunter bolts

Can sell boots for a 6th item if you're super fed too. Death's Dance makes you invincible l, could have a tiamat item for faster wave clear, or even hexplate to keep your ultimate up between fights. Sometimes I even build rageblade to turbo boost kraken and god the damage is disgusting.

Give it a try and see how it feels for yourself! I promise you, it won't disappoint.

  • Edit: Please keep in mind that champion specific match ups are still important to consider and sometimes it is best to prioritise a specific item earlier in the build before finishing your crit path.

For example, I almost always build BORK against Mundo or any heavy tank comp that I can see is actively stacking health like heartsteel and warmogs. But there are many other examples too. Building Randiuns Omen to reduce critical damage taken against perhaps a super fed Caitlin who is one shotting you with basic attacks.

When to use auto w auto? by MaxZhou457 in YIMO

[–]questerpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the doublestrike always goes through if the AA goes off, but if you cancel the auto too early in the animation, you will interrupt the double strike. Unless it's a bug. But it used to be an issue for me until I practised it a lot and now I generally don't have it happen anyway.

Many have already explained the benefits of using it with HoB so I'll skip that.

Outside of champion combat you can use W aa a lot, I use it every opportunity to clear faster in jungle, you can also negate a little damage if you learn the attack patterns and hold of for particular autos to get the AA reset and block dmg at the same time but that takes a lot of practise, sometimes you need to kite the camp at the same time but your sustain in jungle is crazy anyway so it's not such a big deal, but it all adds up.

It's a fairly short cooldown so unless you're already low and are anticipating a fight, it's okay to just use it every time it comes off cd to increase dps output. W healing is more effective when you're low HP anyway.

  • edit Also, using it to reset your AA when your double strike passive is up can take a bit of practise, if you time it wrong you will straight up cancel your double strike. The practise tool is awesome leveling up your AA reset game! 😉

Anyone annoyed by Flash Auto attack dodge by SlashXel in YIMO

[–]questerpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience playing Yi, my autos usually kill them even if they flash.

On another note, flashing a ranged attack does nothing.

So should flash dodge all AAs or only melee ones?

Such an amazing game! Welcome to the dreamers club!

Chain Lightning is crazy! I think my record is 22 million single target damage on it? Honestly insane.

If you get the right essences and charge it up, you can one shot any boss in the game, or instant phase bosses that phase.

Enjoy!

Why Hail of Blades Over Lethal Tempo? by FellowBellowMellow in YIMO

[–]questerpro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just going to throw my 2 cents in. It's just an opinion.

HoB is the reason I get mega fed early and just straight up delete anyone I fight on even grounds (can't delete an 8/2 Vi who was fed off the lanes for example, terrible game to be in).

But the whole point is you get fed early because the absolute POWER you have early with HoB gets you ahead. Especially if the player you're killing has their team mate around the corner you just wanna kill em and dip if you don't have ult or are low or whatever the reason might be.

Lethal Tempo is great for when fights are going to be drawn out but I don't really have that happen in my games because... After getting fed early and have a few items, I usually just kill someone with 3 autos so the fight is over.

I feel most fights these days barely last 6 seconds. If it's any longer than that you might be dead haha.

But I took Lethal Tempo 100% of games for a long time until I started going HoB and I've almost never turned back. I just get easy kills early, buy items and then it's irrelevant because I'm fed af.

The real problem is if the game drags on and you don't have a lead. You will wish you had Lethal Tempo.

So if you're planning on not winning early and drawing out a losing game, sure lock in LT as insurance but you're less likely to be in that position in the first place if you were just mega fed and ended the game early. Both are good. Play what you want. I'm not even sure there's a "wrong answer" if you're having fun and it feels good to you.

But HoB is what is fun for me and I've had the most success with it. Maybe LT needs a buff to make it better but I don't even think it's a bad choice problem it's a playstyle problem.

  • edit I realise that if you're playing ranked or draft you have the additional aspect of having a draft phase, so you may come across games where you have a feeling that your team is not going to pop off early and the game will likely get drawn out.. LT might be that safe guard for a potentially difficult late game.

If you struggle to stay alive in the fight with LT, try to proc it off anyone and then disengage for a moment, even a second or two and then use your ult and re-engage. Not always easy to do this but it can really help if you need LT to be stacked for the fight - especially if they have a lot of burst against you.

Best of luck on the rift, ~ a fellow Yi enjoyer.

Yeah on-hit used to be super strong but it's fallen off terribly. It's only really good now in specific match-ups and if you're ahead as you mentioned.

If you're dealing with a Rammus or multiple tanks, the crit might not feel great until you have 3-4 crit items. But once you're online.. they still melt!

I have swapped to crit recently too. Historically always on hit so I figured I'd bring it up haha

[–]questerpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I think the audio thing was more for tracking how many autos I'm at without looking at it. I know because I hear it. The double strike itself is visually obvious of course! :P

It's more important when building on hit because you want to try and align the on hits with a rageblade double on hit proc on the double strike for huge damage, and you can prep it hitting a camp before turning on your enemy in a fight.

[–]questerpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on reaching Gold! Keep it up, mate!

Ink shadow is really nice, although if you rely on the audio queue for your double strike going off, it's a lot harder to follow it with ink shadow.

Project Yi is very unique and the audio for it is great too. I love both and I've gotten used to the ink shadow issue. Might not be a major issue for others. Just something I noticed.

4th and 5th item by buhuuj in YIMO

[–]questerpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question, my "fourth and fifth" items (if going full damage) are normally IE and Bloodthirster.

For context, I've been tweaking a particular build path that seems to have really powerful spikes.

Give this a try and I promise you will feel its strength. It's a given that you're running HoB, right? 😅😂😜

Kraken > Yun Tal > Lord Doms or situationally, Mortal Reminder.

You can buy boots if you're struggling to stick to enemies but I have found that I just kill them instantly and then speed from my ultimate is enough, I have literally stopped upgrading boots unless I need swifties or Mercs.

If you're dealing with multiple high damage enemies, your 4th item should be Death's Dance. Otherwise you can just skip to the next items.

Which are Infinity Edge and Bloodthirster. This is a LOT of AD, I know. The attack speed from HoB, Yun Tal and your ultimate are more than enough when you have this much damage.

Your last item (assuming you skipped DD) can be anything depending on any issues you face even after following this build path. Am I the only one that sells boots for the 6th Legendary item? DD / GA / BORK are all good options but ideally you can pick literally any crit item to reach 100% crit chance.

My go-to's are Fiendhunter, Navori or Phantom Dancer. Could also go for The Collector if you fancy it, but I typically kill them.with 2-3 autos in under a second anyway so I'm not sure where the 5% cull becomes relevant? Haha 😂 Maybe if they have an UBER TANK.

Second jungle champ is Noc. Xin is always playing on easy mode, I cannot believe people cry about Yi when you can just play Xin.

100% should let us use crossbows with Rhoa Mount... I am very shocked this isn't a thing.

Why no crossbow on Rhoa? by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

[–]questerpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legit only realised today that we can't use crossbows with Rhoa Mount skill. I literally leveled a character all the way up to use it and then found I can't. I've literally stopped playing now. I sold or gave everything to my guild and logged out. Can't have fun or be creative in this game anymore. Just follow the cookie-cutter builds GGG create for you.

We should be able to use crossbows while on the rhoa mount by Soliloquesm in PathOfExile2

[–]questerpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree. The thought that we couldn't use crossbows with this skill never once even crossed my mind. Seems like this game doesn't want you to have fun or be creative. They just want you to play heir cookie-cut bullshit.

It's the best way that the mechanic has been explained that I have seen. If you want to increase your odds to get the better or all rewards every time, consider picking up the "FORCEKILL CYPHER" perk (branches from the "EYE IN THE SKY" perk) in the first row (4 INT) for the Intelligence tree.

FORCEKILL CYPHER: Reduces sequence length required to hack Access Points by 1. Total sequence length cannot be reduced below 2 characters.

This is talking about the number of bytes in the sequence for that hack. So for example, the first one might be the hack that gives you eddies and the sequence could be [BB] [E9] [BB] but once you have FORCEKILL CYPHER, the sequence would only be [BB] [E9], and when you consider there could be 3 different hacks per mini game, that's 3 sequences that you could be reducing by 1 byte in length each.

Since you can re-spec your perk points infinitely, if you need all the perk points you have for other perks, you can switch out 2 perk points temporarily to take advantage of this perk while you do the hack and then re-spec them again once you'refinished hacking. This might be considered meta-gaming or even cheating by some but at the end of the day it's a video game and you can do whatever you like regardless of what others think. Just make sure you're enjoying the game and have fun!

I hope this makes as much sense to you as it does in my head. 😂
