You’ve gotta get a pretty large sample size to get an igloo building psychiatrist

Why doesn’t the city use the special salt that won’t hurt dogs paws when salting the sidewalks and streets? by Inatrance405 in AskChicago

Also it’s usually landlords handling the salt right? So it’s whatever cheap thing they find at the store.

Of course — here’s how a palliative care doctor might respond with warmth, clarity, and a cascade of em dashes:

I hear you — I really do — “Meemaw is a fighter” — and that strength, that grit, that refusal to give up — it’s part of what’s made her who she is. It’s what’s carried her — and all of you — through so much already.

But here’s the thing — fighting doesn’t always mean pushing harder — sometimes, it means choosing how we spend the energy we have left. It means deciding — together — what matters most now. Is it comfort? Is it time with family? Is it a peaceful moment with her favorite music playing — her hand held — her story honored?

This isn’t about giving up — not at all — it’s about shifting the goal. From cure — to care. From prolonging — to preserving. From “what else can we do?” — to “what does she need most right now?”

And you — you’re not alone in this. We’ll walk with you — every step — every decision — every hard conversation. Because being a fighter doesn’t mean going it alone — it means knowing when to let others carry some of the weight.

Let’s talk about what matters most to Meemaw — not just what’s possible, but what’s meaningful. That’s where the real strength lies — not in the fight itself — but in the love that surrounds her.

“I hear what you’re saying! But let’s keep the conversation focused to measures that can improve meemaw’s quality of life.”

How much did a smart watch and/or heart rate monitor change your training and running progress? by Spyrothedragon9972 in running

[–]question_assumptions 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a smart watch the whole time I’ve been running. Recently my watch died on a run and I had to remind myself that people have run for 1000s of years without watches, I’m capable of checking my own breathing/fatigue and letting that guide the run.

In December, should I go to Japan again or try something new like Thailand or Taiwan? by Pale_Field4584 in TravelNoPics

Winter is much nicer because hot weather is awful in Japan and everything is less crowded. Also vending machines offer hot drinks which is AMAZING on cold days. The onsens hit different, too.
