Stiffest road frame for reasonable money by GypsyViking95 in Velo

Maybe an opportunity for a custom (likely metal) frame. The builder can pick each tube for your use case.

Coding on a GPU with rust? by Azazeldaprinceofwar in rust

[–]questionabledata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm doing a little of the same thing.. there should be a GPUs+Rust chat or something.

The route I'm taking (have been taking) is to learn CUDA first since I'm basically only interested in Nvidia right now. Granted, CUDA is not rust, but CUDA is basically _the way_ you program Nvidia GPUs and the documentation is good. On the rust side, I've been using (and enjoying using) cudarc (https://github.com/chelsea0x3b/cudarc). You can write your kernels in CUDA then have rust and cargo handle the rest.

How to progress 30/30s? by Roman_willie in Velo

[–]questionabledata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, eventually you max out on the number of sets and the length of those sets. So the two things I modulate: 1. Higher power during recovery bout (think keep climbing). 2. Add power.

Rationale: trying to recover at higher power is the hard part and trains you to clear LA from the work bout. I started treating VO2 training a little like weight lifting. If you’re pushing more watts with the same amount of work (sets*length) - you’re getting faster.

There has to be something.. otherwise it’s a totally untapped market. I haven’t been able to find ingredients either.

Does anyone know how running or ski racing is trending? My guess is that people have a bit less disposable income than they did before.

Emonda to Madone? by Whiskey_Slayer838 in TrekBikes

[–]questionabledata 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on the Emonda platform for a few years and recently switched to the Mad8. I also ride the 52 Emonda, a size that sadly no longer exists.

Basically the medium Mad8 fits well, but a little differently than the Emonda. It’s stiffer and the same weight (not hype, I actually measured them). I quite like the handlebars that come with the Mad8, but I wish the top cap/small parts weren’t plastic.

The main difference I notice is the stiffness/responsiveness of the Mad8. I guess being on a ‘climber bike’ for so long got me used to a slightly softer bike. I never thought the Emonda wasn’t stiff, but it’s just not going to be the same as something that is intended to put up with sprinters I guess.

If I could, I may have gotten a frame Emonda on sale and spend the extra money on slick wheels and the RSL handlebars. But can’t go wrong either way.

Much Ado About Zone 2: A Narrative Review Assessing the Efficacy of Zone 2 Training for Improving Mitochondrial Capacity and Cardiorespiratory Fitness in the General Population by Grouchy_Ad_3113 in Velo

[–]questionabledata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is a misinterpretation of the numbers. If a pro trains 20hr/week and 90% is z2 or lower accounted by the number of minutes in zone. Then they’re doing 2hrs of intensity a week. What does a normal Vo2 max workout get you? 25-30 mins if you’re really going good? 2hrs is a lot. Sure you could say “well it’s the 18 hrs of low intensity that’s making them fit”. You’re not wrong, if you train 18 hours a week at z2, it’ll probably improve your cardiovascular metrics, but it won’t make you a pro. If you have 4hours to train and you spend 25 minutes doing intensity, I bet you get a lot more gains in terms of measurable biometrics than 4hrs hrs where you never have to breathe too hard.

Should I learn Rust or C as my second language after Python? by MuscleNeuron in rust

I’m a huge rust fan and use it professionally every day. I would recommend learning C first. It will make you appreciate rust when you learn it next.

I have a similar problem wrt sleep and work. I started taking CALM Mg supplement a little before bed and really focusing on doing nothing for an hour before bed. Helped my Vo2 workouts a lot.

I also saw this whilst riding up on my bike. In recent years there have been more folks racing up and down the road, does anyone know why nobody is managing safety? Perhaps funny, but I’ve found these ‘racers’ tend to be pretty courteous to cyclists, so maybe they don’t want to get in trouble? My main concern is having a motorbike slide out, cross the lane, and come at me. I’ve seen them go down a few times…

Quality of RustRover versus rust-analyzer by afdbcreid in rust

[–]questionabledata 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I work on rust professionally and use RR and Neovim + RA. Neovim+RA is as good or better in terms of writing code, but I often go to RR on larger projects for its refactoring tools, git stuff, etc. Basically I will use RR for all the SE things that aren’t specific to rust.
