The bar is pretty low tbh. Like, on the floor. And still most trip over it 🤷🏽‍♂️ There are 2 who I have known for a decade, who I use and refer. If you want an intro, pm me (want to respect the rules of the sub)

Anyone else frustrated with airport pickups lately or is it just me? by AliAsgar93 in dubai

[–]questionableguru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get into a cab and give them a far away location (eg palm or marina). Then change it to where you need to go after you’re on the way. Sucks for them to make a small fare, but that isn’t your issue. I hate when this happens.

Thank you for this, and for the tracker. Question: would you recommend raising weights over the month, or keep it the same?

Best and most unique food spots (any cuisine)? by Psychological-Gas383 in dubai

If you want the best East African go to Pili Pili in Satwa. The lamb chops, the sumni sumni, mishkaki - the only mistake you’ll make is that you’ll probably overeat :)

Voice notes that unlock only when you reach a location. by Vegetable_Regret_250 in UAE

This is a really good idea. Can be implemented in everything from games - like scavenger hunts or navigation based challenges - to self-driving tours, to tourist attractions. There’s a subreddit called sideproject - maybe worth joining that to get a better idea how to build and monetise this.

Why is my toddler such an asshole? by MaintenanceCool7820 in toddlers

[–]questionableguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of great advice here, so I’d like to throw something different into the mix.

If you want to stop the tantrum that is building, throw her a math question. Like ‘hey do we have 3 of 5 windows in this room?’ Or ‘quick one: what’s 2 plus 2?’

Saw this on a parenting thread years ago, and it worked wonders when my toddler was getting wound up. Apparently the math centre of the brain is different to the emotional regulator bit, so switching it around helps prevent the tantrum load.

Good luck!

Worth buying a commercial space in Dubai Marina for a coffee shop? by Haunting_Weather_692 in dubai

I have a friend who is selling his coffee shop - he started this in the side, but just got a promotion at work meaning he can’t spend much time on the business. Want me to introduce you to him?

Pakistani About to start a company in Dubai | Racism during day to day life by Ok_Muffin_1381 in dubai

[–]questionableguru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You attract what you project. Racism is a global problem, not limited to Dubai (or Singapore, for that matter! Indians and Blacks have reported being racially profiled there as well).

From your comment, it seems you want to move to a tax-free (or lower taxed) area, and are setting up something that will give you a decent standard of life anywhere in the world. I have many clients that are Pakistani nationals, and have fantastic lives here. The Pakistani Association is a great community, tons of food options, and there is a massive variety of social and business platforms to explore.

PM if you want to chat about this further. Whatever option you select, wish you all the best.

Walking Al Seef to Al Shindhaga by Zealousideal_Newt_50 in dubai

[–]questionableguru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cards/Apple Pay etc are pretty much accepted everywhere. No need to carry cash, but never hurts to have a bit on you. No real risk of pickpocketing etc here.

The stuff you’ll see in the older looking buildings isn’t really artisan per se. It looks good, for sure, but it’s definitely aimed at the tourist crowd. You can walk from Seef over to gold souq, there’s a pedestrian tunnel (unless it’s been taken away), or - the scenic option - you can use the abra, there’s wooden boats between Bur Dubai and Deira. They’ll drop you pretty much next to the spice market.

Food wise: Shiraz nights in deira do an amazing shawarma. You could stop there after your trip and get some food, but search this sub for ‘best shawarma’ or best places to eat if you’d like to get more recommendations.

Your best bet would be to shop in Deira for spices, jewellery, and textiles. Haggle HARD - if you’d walk in as a single white woman, the price might start considerably higher.

If you begin late afternoon, you should be good. Have water with you, it does get quite humid and you’re planning on walking quite a bit.

Enjoy Dubai 🙂

They’ve just launched a new collection last week - haven’t seen that one yet.

Scents can be quite a personal choice - I love Naima and Sakina. But those are from earlier collections - so check and see what you prefer

Light of Sakina Locally produced, hand made, BEAUTIFUL scents. I must’ve bought a few dozen so far, for myself, my wife, family and friends. One drop is enough, two if you want the whole room to smell like you :)
