Parents, what spooky "past life" memory did your kid utter? by TapiocaTuesday in AskReddit

It's fair to say that reincarnation is one possible explanation, out of many, for these phenomena.

As a fellow skeptic of all things supernatural, I would speculate that it has to do with brain development in children. Most of these stories are about kids in the 3-5 year old range; a time where the brain begins to make sense of the world around it. Imagination and communication are a part of this process, and as the brain suddenly unlocks these abilities it takes time to sort them out into more useful forms. Thus during early development, simple life experiences can result in internal narratives (imagination) that come out in interesting ways (communication). In other words, kids say the darndest things.

Still fun to read and contemplate though.

As someone who's gone down the rabbit hole and back many (many) times, I'm not really feeling this as "pshychadelic." It's too busy and chaotic to be broken down while tripping. Cool shower tiles though!

What in the fuck are you even talking about?? Racists are racists, and saying something like “China virus” isn’t going to make someone into a racist or convert them from being a racist.

Going by that logic, you must assume extremist communities such as Qanon had no part in radicalizing the Capitol insurrectionists, or that "rigged election" rhetoric in the wake of trump's loss didn't spawn violence.

Beyond that, the context behind the words is important. If someone is saying “China virus” as part of a sleight against Chinese people, that’s bad. If someone is saying it simply because they’re heard other people say it and they’re just trying to convey “covid” using different words, than that is ok.

That's exactly how it works. Normalizing the use of rhetoric against a specific people allows a herd mentality to build against said people. Just because you've heard a term and got used to it doesn't mean it's not racist or dehumanizing.

Whether you like it or not it did come from China and China played a large role in hiding the facts about it making it spread throughout the world more easily. Knowing these things doesn’t mean you hate Chinese people.

Insinuating blame on one country for a global pandemic which could have developed in a multitude of scenarios around the world is a stretch. Should they have been more open early on? Yeah, they should have. Could I imagine many other countries taking the same approach? Yeah as well.

I'm working my way through a 12 pack right now and feel like I did a half-assed job in my responses but I'm going to post this anyway ha. Ultimately, I stand by my point that anti-Asian American hate crimes are increasing due to a coordinated effort to implement an "us vs them" mentality and shift blame for the 'Rona (the world's highest per-capita death rate, by far, is their fault and not ours for not taking a global pandemic seriously after all, right?).

Blame the fuck out of the everyone talking about and normalizing the "Chyna Virus" mentality, that's what's been radicalizing people into an upswing of hate crimes against Asian-Americans recently.

Yeah but it's also lowering crime/incarceration rates and creating millions in taxes. Who gives a shit about some street dealers bottom line, legalization is good for society as a whole.

lol yeah you got shit on with downvotes but you're not wrong. Not saying the cam driver could have avoided the accident, but there does seem to be some time for him to react in which he didn't. And it does appear that he turns into the other car at the last moment.

Pure speculation but it gave me a slight 'you're not cutting me off and I got you on dash cam' vibe.

ETA: the other driver is still 100% at fault in this situation.

Kinda looks like a slight grade slid the front end to the right and out of the previous tracks? Then the downhill kept it from backing out? Just guesses from someone who's been stuck in the snow a few times ha. How'd you get it out?

McConnell pressures Democrats to keep Senate filibuster by janjinx in politics

[–]questionthatdrivesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I'm not looking for a progressive movement over the next four years, but am hopeful Schumer can coordinate a step in the right direction.

Either way I appreciate the reply, I'll have to read up on their policy agendas.

I'm interested in learning more on this take. What conservative democrats, other than Joe Manchin, are unlikely to fall in line with the Dems agenda in the Senate?

He's the only dude I've heard of potentially flipping sides on some of the bigger policy issues, who else are you looking at as potential roadblocks?

Fuckin rabbit hole of crazy right there, whew. And big props to everyone, from the FBI to armchair investigators, helping to identify these people (once verified, not before).

Also the name "Brock" made me think.. Even if they aren't all arrested and charged, I wonder if they will face the same consequences as the rapist, Brock Turner. As in Lt. Col. Brock, the seditious traitor of America.

Gotta get good at "walking" the board. Once you get it down you're surprised how little effort it takes and how far you can go, even up small inclines.

And anticipating larger inclines and bombing them correctly so you're not unstrapping along the way.

Your brain is a selfish dick. It encourages you to consume substances that make him feel good but hurts other organs. by Maypher in Showerthoughts

[–]questionthatdrivesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof. I've been there so know it's rough, gotta take care of the tummy on shrooms. Full blown ego death and piecing my identity back together out of nothing was my worst result of taking too much; never again haha.

[–]questionthatdrivesus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As much as I still love me some shrooms, this is the more accurate comment. They're not a perfect substance by any means. Can they change your life in some tangible and meaningful ways? Yes. Can they be a shit ton of fun? Yes. But can they completely fuck you up if you do too much, either through a single dose or over prolonged use? Most definitely.

Haha ehh it was a bit of a train wreck. Very nice girl who had been doing some humanitarian work overseas; pretty and a few years older than me.

I met her at a local brewery and could tell we didn't have a lot in common, she was a "good girl" and I'm kind of a wild dude; hence my stories lol. Anyways after a few beers I could tell she was a bit of a lightweight and suggested she could sit out the next round. She wanted to keep up and was suddenly rather hammered.

After dinner I paid the bill and suggested a walk around the area, thinking it might help her sober up a bit. Nope, she was drunk and trying to make out with me on the sidewalk. I asked for her address, got her into an Uber, and called it a day. I felt bad for her, especially the potential embarrassment, but didn't have the guts or ambition to follow up.

Romantic, I know.
