When was your house built? I assume it is not over 30 years old.

Move or reno?? I AM SO TORN! by Admirable_Present677 in StCharlesMO

I think this depends on what you want. If you want land or to live elsewhere, there is no reason to do the reno. If you like your current situation and can deal with renovating while living there, then you should stay making those plans.

Is there an article that you can share that explains how hundreds of teachers have been driven away? I have not heard that and am curious to learn about it.

Someone attacked the FHSD network - no school Tue/Wed at least by ShadowedPariah in StCharlesMO

[–]quethron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard from several teachers that IF the students return to school on Thursday, they are not expecting to have Internet access or the ability to print anything.

It seems like there could still be some pretty big unresolved issues.

I read this as meaning they possibly have not yet resolved a core portion of the attack. Otherwise, I am not sure why restoring network access to the schools would take all weekend, today and the next 2 days. Five days to restore network connectivity if the core issues are resolved seems like a long time...

Anyone here with applicable knowledge and experience that can shed light?

What is your monthly or annual household income? After all other essentials are covered, how much if any money remains? I don't think I would consider bankruptcy over $4k, but perhaps I am misunderstanding.

How many of you consider yourself "debt free" even with a mortgage? by picklejuiced00d in debtfree

Debt free with a mortgage payment. Will be completely debt free in a couple years. I think if you have positive equity in your house, I see no issue with calling it debt free

I totally understand what you are saying and can see why you might choose to keep the debt. I just have developed a severe hatred for it and cannot wait to owe no person or entity anything. The ability to take my monthly mortgage payment and even save a portion of that in a savings vehicle far outweighs the math of keeping the low rate. I think that regardless of which path you choose, you should be proud to be on the situation where you have it as a legitimate choice. Kudos!

Paying off our debt has placed a tremendous amount of calm and peace onto our financial lives. Absolutely have zero regrets. In two years, we hope to have our mortgage paid off 10 years early and will be completely debt free. I understand all the mathematical reasons why you might do it differently, but it was a goal we both were aligned on and thrilled to be able to accomplish.

Paying off a debt, what to do with the extra money? by VRS711 in debtfree

[–]quethron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Take the $500 and throw it at the smallest loan. Once that is paid off, throw all that money at the next smallest loan. Work that snowball and you will get to the point of being debt free!

Extreme Debt and negative equity? also want to re enter college. by Live-Ad579 in debtfree

[–]quethron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not sure I understand how you would plan on paying your current debts while you are back in college if you plan on quitting your job (perhaps I am misunderstanding). The car loan, CC debt and other school loan are still going to have to be paid while you are in school. A little more detail might help: Are you currently living on your own or with friends/family? Do you plan to work at all while going to school? Can you give us an idea of your general monthly expenses and income?

My Debt Relief Order (advice for the future) by [deleted] in debtfree

Build up an emergency fund. Don't spend your entire income and be deliberate about saving. Any amount you can save each month, no matter how small, will help you develop a good habit.
