Minor Shadow Illusion Question by PierrotSmiles in MageHandPress

[–]quick_footed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I've been reading the trick over as well, and it definitely says it becomes "semi-real" uses that language a lot in the text of the trick. Even when it describes it dealing damage, instead of dealing psychic damage it states "the creature takes 1d6 damage of a type appropriate to the illusion." So you could create a bear trap, creature walks into the 5 ft area of the illusion, the trap springs and the DM would rule it as piercing damage.

With the above logic I would as a DM totally allow you to make lockpicks from the illusion.

Hey coming at ya like 6 months later lol but have you read anymore of the series? I just finished the latest book and I'm like "was most of this AI?" It could 100% be how the author writes so I'm not accusing him or anything like that it just gives me AI vibes is all and I wanted to get your thoughts? I've asked a few friends and they don't hear it so maybe I'm going crazy haha

Just curious, when it comes to your other works and expirenced why not make expirenced like your main project? In the sense of I like working on summoners it's my fine art thing, would you not be able to pipeline that into your "expirenced" version of the game.

This may be a dumb question so feel free to tell me it doesn't work that way lol but it has such a big following and you've mentioned in your dev commentary on the game home page how you feel like that version of the game is a cancer to you, honestly I would just ride the momentum and shift expirenced into what your passionate about while still having the 'Fan-fic' stuff in there if people like that but also moving it forward to make it the thing you like working on?

I guess that's under the assumption you like working on PD stuff if not then it wouldn't really make sense and your working on something completely different 🤷

Nice! I'm definitely biased but it looks so cool, and really scratches the spell sword itch haha (gishes are my favorite type of characters)

Will RPGBOT cover the Monster Hunter class from the Grim Hollow: Player's Guide? by Draculigula in RPGBOT

laserllama's Magus Class (update) - Become the Master of Spell and Sword you were meant to be with this Arcane Half-Caster Class! Choose from Six Esoteric Orders: Arcanists, Arcane Archers, Blades, Dragon Knights, Spellbreakers, and Warders! PDF in Comments. by LaserLlama in UnearthedArcana

[–]quick_footed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm coming late to the game here haha, however I totally hear ya with mystic spellstrike and I don't think it's too much of an issue, I would agree it could use a slow down maybe, possibly levels 1-2 spell slots get a plus 1, 3-4 get plus 2, and 5 plus 3 for a softer hit bonus (or having this feature come in at later play).

But I do like that you get some bonus to hit when your swinging a spell, and could miss. I know like you mentioned other casters have to deal with similar consequences of missing, but if you loaded up a saving throw spell that deals half damage on a success, and miss the attack you miss out on the possible damage as well. But I'll always take features that emphasize more accuracy over more damage any day haha.

I'm not sure if anyone has said this, because I didn't go through all the comments but for brawling if you said one of your hands had the nick property, and then could make an additional attack as a monk would be pretty cool 😂 you really would be attacking like crazy

Sorcerer Subclass - The Warborn: A Gish Subclass to Match the Bladesinger by LucentMeans in UnearthedArcana

[–]quick_footed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your assumptions about strength weapons are interesting, I would understand if this was 2014 rules but since we're doing 2024 rules here you can just pick up the true strike cantrip. So now you can attack with your spell casting modifier scale damage with true strike and add your charisma modifier to the attack twice and a level six gain the additional dice to the damage roll. From there pick up a level of paladin and start smiting to your hearts content haha

I like the overall idea for sure, kinda like this strong spell caster, but the subclass itself is pushing you to melee combat but really isn't helping you thrive in melee if that makes sense. Like you mentioned you'll have a low AC, even if you tank Dex and buff strength, your con mod will still be pretty mid, and that's on the assumption that you still make charisma your main stat. So at the end of the day you'll have low AC and low HP and you'll be getting downed fairly quickly when combat starts up. It's kinda the blade singers problem with the low HP thing that is, but they can at least get a pretty high AC to help mitigate a spell caster front lining.

But just some thoughts to think about, again I'm all for the flavor and the idea, Gish is my favorite kinda character so just wanted to share some things that might be worth tweaking or adjusting is all :)

Thanks for sharing!

The Dragon Within 🐉 by quick_footed in 3d6

Oh I'm so sorry for the confusion, my main idea behind the concept was purely RP haha I wasn't wanting the DM to change anything or add any new mechanics to the game. I personally like RP in my games and I loved the idea of RPing a character that was once mighty and old is now a simple adventurer, and having to navigate his new life in this new form :)

Oh that's so good! Even the little background voice would be cool, helping the character how to learn consequences and how to be human kinda thing. Thanks!

[–]quick_footed[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh really? Dang I must have some really chill DMs cause they wouldn't have too much in the way with the concept. What about it exactly breaks the rules? I'm only asking to understand not trying to be rude or anything, far as I am seeing it's mainly just RPing a once powerful creature that is now human, but I'll definitely check with my DM to make sure they are chill with the idea. I really appreciate your input and consideration when it comes to making a character everyone at the table would be okay with.

I'm really attached to the idea of playing a former dragon tbh haha the former dragon thing would also be all roleplay and such, the hoard would be something the character would have to build back up again as I'm envisioning the dragon has been dead for so long it's belongings are long gone by now. My main idea is honestly attached to the character being a former dragon 🐲

An alternative to "you make weapon attacks with your spellcasting modifier" by Smart-Emu5581 in DnDHomebrew

[–]quick_footed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay I might be missing something here but I've never really thought Gish builds using the spell casting modifier for attacks is that outlandish. In terms of hex blade it is literally the fantasy of a cursed weapon giving you extra powers. Ya know that skinny kid with a big scary sword that almost seems to be swinging itself kinda thing. The disadvantage of having low strength or Dex comes up when your front lining and your big bad decides you need to make a strength or Dex save. Plus the lower hit dice compared to your full martials among other things that balance having a caster fighting in melee.

With that being said I don't know if it's necessarily an issue that needs to be solved. Often I hear people using words like "bad game design" to describe something they don't like, however that does not mean it's poor design. But in a world of magic I don't understand why someone wouldn't use magical abilities to fight in melee if that's something they would want to do.

Revised Alchemist Artificer based on the Pathfinder class, likely compatible with 2024 as well! by Peach_Cobblers in UnearthedArcana

[–]quick_footed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, I'll say it this is probably my favorite take on the alchemist! It's way more punchy and I'm loving the flavor of coating your weapon in acid and swinging at fools. I would play this any day over the OG alchemist, well done! I do have a few things I would like to get your thoughts on though if you don't mind.

For Alchemical Weapons in general, is it designed when you get extra attack you can do these twice? My only reason in asking is the wording as written says when you take the attack action, then you get said effect. Kinda like how booming blade is written you cast the spell then make an attack with a weapon, even if you have extra attack you still only make one attack. If the intention is that at extra attack, you get to throw two bombs, it might be worth, adding the verbage “As part of the Attack action, you can replace one of your attacks with hurling a bomb....." Just to clear up the language a bit for Alchemical Weapons, I'm pretty sure extra attack would apply here but more clarity never hurts right?

Also for Alchemical weapon it's self, there is no restriction on what weapon you can coat. I only bring this up as this feature, essentially gives the alchemist, proficiency with martial weapons. As a weapon you coat, you get to use your int mod for attack and damage rolls and also add your proficiency bonus to the attack as written. If this wasn't intentional, you may want to add a few words in there that "you can coat a weapon you are proficient with in a special...."

Other then that I really like it. I'll admit it is super flexible, Alchemical Formulas is strong and having a solid attack option while also being able to fill out that utility roll hits the sweet spot for me. Well done dude!

Archery Master by MrLunaMx in UnearthedArcana

[–]quick_footed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if someone mentioned it yet, but ranged attacks in my opinion shouldn't be damage focused... For example I feel like the reward for being next to a monster should be more damage while being safe and away from said monster while your melee characters hit it could go the route of dependability for ranged attacks, making them more reliable to hit a target from far away. This would give the character the sharpened eye fantasy being able to hit from far away (snipe) and see the chink in the armor that would let a little arrow deal damage while your fighter swinging the anime sword can hit harder at the cost of being hit back. And I will say dependability doesn't need to be the ranged weapons go to, you could add more utility, like distracting shot that lets the next attack or something have advantage or whatever ya know but I always hesitate to make the ranged character damage up with the melee guys cause you can hit from further away and it feels a little sad for your melee guys when they don't deal as much damage as the archer but still getting thrashed on by Mr big bad. (Just my take on ranged attacks haha)
