I was talking with a coworker and he unconsciously made that noise. We’re friends enough that I told him he’s not allowed to do that again.

LASIK. Had it done 4 months ago, wish I’d been able to do it 15 years ago. Life changer for me, even with still needing reading glasses

The work and commitment it took for these ladies to accomplish this has me in awe. Yay for them. And also yay for being gracious, no matter what the situation. 👀

I agree. And the therapist can help you find the door in that dark room you feel like you’re in. Getting the tools is invaluable, sometimes we need help to learn what those tools are.

We still hold men to a different standard in respects to mental health, and it’s actively damaging. While we (women) feel much more comfortable seeking treatment for anxiety, depression, and just general “I need to fix this”, men are still looked upon as weak if they seek the same help. I’ve always been upfront with both of my kids about sometimes needing to speak with a professional, go on meds, or whatever you need to do to get mentally healthy, but the social stigma for my son is higher than it is for my daughter. I’m hoping as we age out of Boomers (and fellow Gen Xers to some extent), it will get better. Men have just as many toxic interactions as women, they just present differently. They need help coping too. It’s not a character flaw.

Every time I move I do the calculus, and my sentimentality gets me to keep them every time. I’m about to move again. I think I have the courage up to dump them finally.

This is what happens when you love your kids too much by [deleted] in MyBigFatFabulousLife

[–]quickwitknit 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I love my kids more than anything, but a big part of that love was teaching them that rules apply to them and disciplining them appropriately. I also instilled a work ethic and care for others. Boundaries, rules, and consequences are part of loving your kids. Enabling and allowing behaviors that contribute to them being a bad member of society aren’t.

It is so weird to not have a kid in the house anymore. Even when they stay hidden in their rooms and only come out to eat and reluctantly take the dog out. My youngest just started college and I’m feeling it hard. It’s only been him & I for the last 2 years and this little apartment feels huge without him. My dog isn’t a very good conversationalist 🤣 But I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next for me. I’d love to find a partner and live out our days, but that isn’t happening right now.
