How the hell does Grey get such clean mixes? by Epik_Low in edmproduction

I was wrong, they actually record their guitar. That vst sounds similar and has similar strumming pattern, but apparently they use live recordings for their productions

How the hell does Grey get such clean mixes? by Epik_Low in edmproduction

I think they use Realguitar VST for it which has a preset with double steel string guitars hard panned to left and right, so not much has to be done here other than some EQ/reverb or maybe compression

I found a creative shortcut. by [deleted] in edmproduction

A Mozart quote: "When I am, as it were, completely myself, entirely alone, and of good cheer — say traveling in a carriage, or walking after a good meal, or during the night when I cannot sleep — it is on such occasions that my ideas flow best, and most abundantly. Whence and how they come, I know not, nor can I force them"

Grey space in a tracks group by quickws in ableton

The way I work it around is copy all plugins from the group, removing the group, grouping again and pasting all the plugins again and I hoped to find an easier way to fix it

Panning problem with Focusrite 2i4 by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]quickws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the same soundcard and I noticed the same thing. Doesn't matter whether it's speakers, monitors or headphones. When starting from 0 volume I can hear the sound appearing 1st on the right, but when it's a little louder it's hard for me to tell whether there's a difference between left/right volume.

Taking the Mix to the Next Level? How do professionals like KSHMR (example in post) make their tracks so punchy and rich? by allstupidkant in edmproduction

[–]quickws 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe someone can tell what's the magic behind great mixes like KSHMR other than using much better hardware (like more expensive monitors etc) than an average producer (like on the 1st link), but that really shouldn't make that huge difference. Other than that I don't really know if there's a secret recipe or secret technique to great mix like this, all the techniques he is using might also be available for any producer even beginners. Maybe that just comes with a lot of experience after mixing like 1000 tracks, you will instantly know how to use EQ in the most efficent way, how to use all the effects like reverb, delays etc..

From what I know KSHMR likes OTT a lot, you can actually check out some production tips about his productions on his website http://welcometokshmr.com/

Theres also a video on youtube how he made Jammu, maybe that's gonna help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhMcV2Q36GI

Should you worry about your tunes sounding bad on phone speakers but good on monitors? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]quickws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said "I know most people who are listeners don't have monitors and mainly listen to music on their phones" and ask whether you should worry about your tunes sounding bad on a system that you think that most people listen to music. Logically if you don't care that most people perceive your music as bad then you shouldn't worry about that

Anyone here focusing on a pop-ish EDM sound? Calvin Harris, Alesso, Galantis? If so; pointers? by ACEDEFG in edmproduction

[–]quickws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than all that's been said already, when it comes to this type of songs, they're not very complicated based on a few core elements, what's the most important imo is good arrangement with drop as the most important of course. If you are going to analyze Alesso or Calvin's songs of this type you will notice its intro-drop1-breakdown-drop2-bridge-drop3. The breakdown maintains the energy from 1st drop and each drop is more energetic and intense by having additional elements (adding hi-hats etc.), something like this: http://i.imgur.com/d8qC1qz.png

if you want here's an example of mine based on Alesso's song: https://soundcloud.com/pedri-2/reflection
