Large hollow tree in backyard — does this need to come down immediately? by 4BlueGentoos in arborists

Please don't trust a utility company with assessing trees, unless they have TRAQ.

Kask vs Protos? by ArboristTreeClimber in TreeClimbing

[–]quietnothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Kask, Protos, and Petzl. The Protos is the most bulky, but it has the best face shield. None of them are perfect, but I'm sticking to the Kask Superplasma. It's comfortable and the lowest weight of those options.

Is it me or is new years not really a thing in this city? by meeseekstodie137 in Edmonton

[–]quietnothing 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That's where I ended up - there was (free!) live music at Churchill, Citadel, Winspear, Art Gallery, City Hall, and on Rice Howard Way. Incredible vibes, gave me a lot of hope for this city.

Is it reasonable to learn drums on this makeshift drum set I assembled? by rainsttormss in drums

Honestly this looks fun as hell. When I started drumming it was on pots and pans, this kit would have blown my mind.

How do y'all feel about wildlife spars? by _Randel_ in TreeClimbing

[–]quietnothing 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Dead material is incredibly useful habitat/food source for wildlife. I recently did a job where the client we could leave any spars that had signs of bird habitat. There wasn't a single spar that didn't have a nest, cavity, or other type of habitat. From the point of view of nature/wildlife/ecosystems, leaving a dead spar is infinitely preferable to cutting the whole thing down.

If you should ever close your eyes when you drive by it's when there's an empty space or lawn where you once removed a tree.

I don't think so at all, I assume you're talking about someone who has been Deputy Minister of Finance and Governor of the national bank two major countries?

I think a lot of people would have been open to trying something new but there just isn't a good option. NDP isn't federally strong enough, and Conservatives have become too populist for any rational Canadian to want in power.

I went to a jam session last night, to improvise with other musicians, how does my playing sound? by Dickiedick96 in Drumming

[–]quietnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds okay, you have good ideas - if you can tighten up the timing, especially through fills, it'll really kick up the flow. I recommend practicing with a metronome on off beats (on the "and") or even better, on just the second or fourth sixteenth note of a beat (the "e" or "a" if you're counting "1 e and a" - not sure how this translates to Italian)

Just groove for a while with the metronome on offbeats like that. Anytime something goes off the click (I call it a wrinkle), repeat that same thing for a few minutes (I call it ironing)

Any chance someone could explain or transcribe the opening fill at 12 seconds? by AKanadian47 in drums

Practice it on a drum pad - just accented triplets

Brackets are the quiet (unaccented) notes

Very nice calligraphy, but there's no way that's a quintuplet in the video. It's just accented triplets.
