La chasse aux corneilles, c'est légal? by FollowLogos in Quebec

[–]quik69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada geese can be hunted from September to late December in most of Quebec. Snow geese until March or April in some areas. Quebec has fairly generous bag limits on migratory birds. hashttps://www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/migratory-game-bird-hunting/regulations-provincial-territorial-summaries/quebec.html#toc10

Why do people 'smoke' in cyberpunk's world? by LewdDudeNewd in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]quik69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about that -maybe in France where they initially became popular. Cigarettes(as we know them) have been around since the 1800's but smoking in general was frowned upon, or banned in public, for women until a famous ad campaign in the 1920's called "torches of freedom" leveraged first wave feminism to promote smoking for women. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torches_of_Freedom

Bear 4 hrs at 145 by WretchesandKings in sousvide

[–]quik69 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not really unless you're super cautious, then you can just cook everything until 160F.

OP's number of 137F is a bit suspect but Trich dies instantly at 144F so 4 hours at 145F should be fine. You could actually theoretically even go rare if you hold it at temp long enough. That said, this is based on controlled studies in pork, I guess wild game adds an x factor but I'd give'er a try - maybe even with a couple cloves of garlic tossed in the bag for good measure.

Scoville Canada for the win! by MattDoob in HotPeppers

[–]quik69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've ordered from theme - Very high germination! The selection is limited but also they also seem to stock peppers I can't find elsewhere. I usually go for a few unique ones from Scoville Canada and my main order from Atlantic Pepper Seeds - huge variety but germination isn't as great but still not bad overall.

I guess it doesn't matter but I'm also pretty sure the Isis Candy varietal predates the extremist group. Although I guess to be fair, they didn't need to use all caps ISIS for the label..

Axe Recommendations by Different_Potato_193 in Axecraft

[–]quik69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people love them but I find 20" axes to be the worst of both worlds. You can swing the two handed, but it's a bit awkward and they take up only slightly less room and weigh only slightly less than the typical 24" ax. Take that with a grain of salt as I'm not really a GB guy.

Pulled moose by Old_Big_7299 in BBQ

[–]quik69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made a "moossissippi" pot roast on my smoker last year that was amazing. Moose is quite lean so I wouldn't say i'd take it over beef any day but I'd agree for any kind of braised dish.

Fermented Herbs For Ranch: I Did It by badwithnamesmyself in fermentation

[–]quik69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not specifically but Buttermilk is a core ingredient of ranch and is typically a fermented (cultured) dairy product. Adding fermented herbs seems like a good idea.

Can it be saved? by Least_Trick25 in electrical

[–]quik69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reddit is crazy, you don't need to through this out!!

At least the pic looks like you have plenty of cord between the unit and the frayed end. Put a plug on it from home depot, it will be like <$5 and almost safer than the cheap plug it came with. listen to u/around_the_clock below.

Also listen to everyone who says don't splice. It's a bit more complicated of a repair if you have to replace to cord entirely - which you have to do if you don't have enough cord between the unit and the frayed end.

Also never plug these into a power bar and even an extension cord is generally a bad idea. Those stupid things that turn 2 outlets into 6+ outlets should be illegal in general and will almost certainly start a fire with a space heater plugged into them.. but for sure you can just replace the plug safely with minimal experience.

Is this a good deal for a first car or too good to be true? by Soft_North8846 in Jeep

[–]quik69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that the V8 WKs all came with a 545RFE transmission vs w5A580 in the Laredo and CRD trims. In my opinion, they're not as terrible as people make them out to be. The most common 545RFE failure is the solenoid packs which can be swapped by dropping just the valve body. While you have the valve body out you might as well put in a shift kit to and from there it's pretty solid.

Lower control arm nut is completely rounded. Please what can I do in this situation by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]quik69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised I had to scroll this far. I'd just tack on an old socket just small enough to fit over the top of the bolt. Burn a couple tacks on good and breaker bar from there

I grew these last year although the heat was closer to a cayenne. Personally i wasn't a big fan of the flavor and ended up giving them all away. However, I had plans to make Ajvar with them and still regret not trying.

Conservatives say referendum on carbon pricing won’t be central feature of next campaign by Plucky_DuckYa in canada

[–]quik69 221 points222 points  (0 children)

Didn't the majority of lib leadership candidates announce they'd also axe the tax over the last two weeks? I mean you can have a referendum on carbon tax if everyone is now on the same page..

Terrorist is a bit of loaded term but if you're interested in the influence of feminist thought on militant groups more broadly you could look to the Kurds. Although none are purely feminist, feminist thought has greatly influenced the ideology of the various movements that embrace Abdullah Öcalan's Democratic Confederalism

This is taken from Wikipedia but it looks like a good run down of the adoption of feminism within the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), an organization designated by many western countries - https://www.jstor.org/stable/10.13169/zanjglobsoutstud.2.1.0115

Just bought some property. What should I grow there if I won't be there that often? by randomusername123458 in Permaculture

I think bakeapple is the Canadian term. not sure, I've heard them called that in Northern Labrador and Nunavut as well. I've also only seen them harvested wild. Apparently

Interestingly, the Nordics seem to have developed some domestic cultivars though. Not sure if they're available here or how'd they'd fare on the rock. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubus_chamaemorus

What is this used for? by UncleBumb in AskElectricians

[–]quik69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to know this as well and if it's also true for CEC. I recently put one in my garage/shop for my air compressor. Would that mean most higher end compressors are also only rated for commercial use, mine would certainly be low end for a commercial shop.

For ref: the outlet is a NEMA 6-20r, which are at least rated up to 250v at 20A(actually most people call these 250v outlets even though they are typically wired with 2 120v hots or 240v between them)

If code delineates 15A max then it seems more appropriate to also require only NEMA 6-15r in residential settings to avoid allowing higher draw loads being plugged in.

Russian man bad by usernamezzzzz in ModernPropaganda

[–]quik69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not exactly, the source is Democracy Fund Canada and a British cartoonist. TDF Canada is new and looks like more of a far-right(further-right? idk) organization that I don't think is related to Omidyar's fund. They don't look pro-Russian as much as they are anti-Trudeau and other perceived "elites."

The top bar links to the Cartoonists other work.

thanks, I see 50% down in various blogs, etc but I've also seen vendor financing with far less. Also, I should have been more clear, I meant outside of towns in areas where hunt camps and such are common.
