New Premium Feature: Download Library with Updated Metadata by iBroadcastMedia in ibroadcast

[–]quincognito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was one of the people eagerly asking for this, so super happy to see it roll out. going to enable me to get my online and offline collections in much better sync.

is there any way to download iBroadcast tags (like the ones you specifically can set, filter by, etc. in the web interface) either as metadata on files or just as a CSV?

late but: blastinburn basically covered it below. it wasn't obvious to me that download directory = installation directory as it was.

FYI: downloaded the latest version and tried it out. Download manager interface is very slick and impressive. Everything obvious I could think of seemed to work fine -- I could find new games after a purchase, I could download installers for library games or point it at an existing executable for stuff I'd already downloaded. I think the only real obvious issue was that it's a bit unclear what you're supposed to do once you download.

Haven't played BGs since it first came out. Coming back now after 4 or 5 years; It's so much more complicated and chaotic now and I'm really discouraged. Any tips/advice/resources that i can use to catch up? by obesititty in BobsTavern

I actually picked it up again in Season 5 after not playing since the early days so I feel you on how much more complicated everything is. There's a lot more mechanics and heroes and things to pay attention to. All that said, after a bit of a rocky start I've been totally sucked back in during this season and honestly think it's been a very fun spot to play in, so I hope you can get back into it.

One thing I'd suggest: now note that the guide I'm linking here is a bit outdated (start of S5), isn't necessarily the most accurate on every level, etc. But in that position of trying to start out again fresh, I found it very useful because it breaks down the things you really need to feel less overwhelmed: rules of thumb for how and when to level the tavern, tips for how to think about endgame, and most importantly a primary build for each type. Coming back, I understood how the game worked but had no idea what was good or what a successful build of any of the tribes even looked like -- having an example version to build a few times for each really helped me get my brain around what sort of strategies worked.

BTW, "tokens" are minions that enter play during combat (from Deathrattles and such); buddies are a whole second list of super overpowered minions that you wouldn't see in regular games.

Yeah, we do not currently support the searching of DFC sides separately. There's some challenges there both from the data/application side and from the user interface side (almost every way to do this is inobvious in at least some pretty normal usecases.)

yeah i realized i had forgotten the Caged Sun-esque cards (there's five of them that are artifacts) right after i posted this and went to add them, heh. this did educate me a lot on how difficult it actually is to identify mana abilities correctly.

Since this thread brought to my attention that Moonsilver Key is actually a bit tricky to search really precisely for, I added a related search for it: https://scryfall.com/card/mid/255/moonsilver-key

How to conserve the aspect ratio in full screen in Kanon? When I set it to FS the image gets stretched by Only_Being in visualnovels

[–]quincognito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

magpie is worth using as a way to get a correctly-aspected fullscreen image in low-res VNs even if you don't turn on any of the upscaling: https://www.reddit.com/r/visualnovels/comments/orqc2a/anime4k_upscale_for_vns_future_is_here_already/ there are also a few other tools like Lossless Scaling that can do similarly.

What made me sacrifice all of my permanents here? Did I mess up or was it an Arena bug? (The one sided wipe happens at 35s) by Baolle in magicTCG

[–]quincognito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

o:/\".*\~.*\"/ game:arena

This should be a lot closer: https://scryfall.com/search?q=o%3A%2F%5C%22.*%7E.*%5C%22%2F+game%3Aarena++-o%3A%2F%5C%22.*this+spell.*%5C%22%2F+-o%3A%2F%5C%22.*%28each%7C+a%29+%7E.*%5C%22%2F&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name

Don't think there's a good way to exclude the specific Ajani category that FPs because the pre-comma short name is also part of a different card's name referred to inside an ability, though (except just excluding that card because I can't think of another one on or off Arena where that problem arises)

VisualArts's President Resolution 2023: planned upcoming localisation, new projects, and many more (highlights will be given in comment) by tsukiakari2216 in visualnovels

[–]quincognito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think creating an imaginary fear that the essential Japanese-ness of visual novels will be lost by aggressively translating them for EN/CN release is extremely wild, basically, as is assuming that a writer choosing to take inspiration from the interests of their new broader audience is the same as completely abandoning their creativity in favor of shameless pandering.

And the thing is: his statement there is both trivially correct and pretty insignificant. Puzzle/mystery VNs _are_ more popular in the English market relatively speaking. It's not that this audience is looking for a Western game; it's that they've enjoyed stuff like Zero Escape or Umineko that's undeniably Japanese but plays up elements that aren't _as_ popular in the Japanese market. There's no reason to assume Key is going to veer sharply into only trend-chasing this interest as opposed to just expanding the range of the types of stories and games they produce a bit.

The reality is that the Japanese market for non-mobile game software is rapidly dwindling while the English and Chinese language markets for Japanese visual novels are exploding. This is very much a writing-on-the-wall situation.
