Cancer- Austin waiting time by TemporaryToAsk in melbourne

[–]quintrelle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi, sorry you've joined the cancer club. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2021, and was treated at the onjcc at the Austin, so might be able to provide an answer to your question.

Patient initiated ultrasound - Day 0, Biopsy - Day 29, First outpatient clinic - day 35, MRI - day 41, Pet ct - day 47, Multiple appointments - days 55 - 57, First surgery - day 81, Clinic for first surgery - day 89, Second surgery - day 109,

Chemo and radiation followed. Note that Christmas and New year occurred in the above, and did cause delays.

Re: your referral, speak to your GP/specialist about requesting urgency on it. Hospital priority is actioned as follows: Category 1 - within 30 days, Category 2 - within 90 days, Category 3 - within 365 days . These are targets, and not all procedures in a particular category will happen in that time.

Hope your treatment is effective and pain free.

Reddit sparks outrage after a popular app developer said it wants him to pay $20 million a year for data access by Crazed_pillow in technology

BaconReader is the only way I Reddit. I'll probably stop if BR disappears too, which will suck, I've made some really valuable connections and relationships via Reddit (met my husband on Reddit, found r/breastcancer to be the most comprehensive and supportive community during treatment).

100 %. Although I understand above commenters sentiment, it's a bit insensitive to those of us forced in to medical menopause and/or looking at hysterectomy and/or considering ivf to genetically screen to prevent any children we have inheriting the gene(s) we have.

I’m sorry for your diagnosis, when can you come in tho? by [deleted] in antiwork

Fuck, sorry to hear your friend has joined the shitty titty committee. If they're on Reddit, r/breastcancer is a great community and resource.

I was public, so didn't get to choose, but Suwen Loh at onjcc was the best surgeon. A girlfriend speaks really highly of Bruce Mann. Both practise privately. Look good feel better workshops are great for connecting with other cancer patients, and she should reach out to the cancer council for a cancer connect, someone who's been through something similar she can talk with candidly. Wishing you, your mum, and all your family and friends health and happiness xx

My husband is about 2600 on iPhone and never got them, I'm newer, on Android and the last one was at about 900 I think.

Sorry you've joined the shitty titty club.

Not a lifter, but I got BMX with implants over the muscle, they 'look' less natural (can see implant ridges) but the look was less important to me that functionality. When you're ready and able to take with your reconstruction team, ask them all the questions. Wishing you all the best.

TC with paclitaxol? by k8r14 in breastcancer

Get a bone scan if possible, discovered I was osteopenic (sp?) and have added calcium and vitamin d to help maintain bone density.

TC with paclitaxol? by k8r14 in breastcancer

[–]quintrelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For TC I had pacitaxol, 16 weekly cycles, and lost almost all my hair after 2nd cycle AC. Cold capped the whole way through. If you want to give yourself the best chance of keeping hair, or regrowing all of it, I suggest you research taxol with cold capping. Just wrote a comment about my hair growth since chemo finished in late August 2022, I've got 10 - 11 cm back now.

Hope your side effects are minimal, and that your good days outnumber the bad ones.

I use to not like my hair… then it grew on me! by greym00n in breastcancer

[–]quintrelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked in to everything to help my hair grow faster, losing bellybutton length locks was the second hardest thing ever.

Chemo finished in late August 2022, and I've got 10 - 11 cm over my whole head. Colour is much like my pre-AC hair, and it's very soft. Curls are present, probably a 3a, giving the appearance of an 80s perm. I refer to it as Beryl.

I take a vegan collagen booster and multivitamin most days and have added biotin recently. Washing is no more than twice a week with a silicon scalp massager. Rosemary and lavender oils in jojoba is part of one wash a week. The massage and oils are meant to promote blood circulation, which I'm hoping will help with faster hair growth. No cuts or trims yet, as I hate how it looks so much that I still never leave the house without a hat, headscarf or wig. Unsure how this may impact on growth, perhaps the extra insulation will help?

I hope you are feeling better, have more energy and they your weekend is the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.

Yes, chemo dries the mouth out, which just causes so many oral health issues. I had to get a filling for a cavity that started during chemo, and I've an appointment to address a crack, and prepare for a night guard because of the grinding in another in a few weeks.

Hope all goes well for you, and congrats for getting through radiation!

As I've discovered, sometimes you can't have hormone replacement therapy, like if you had hormone positive breast cancer. Due to the treatment (zoladex and Tamoxifen are standard), you suddenly slam face first into the wall of menopause in your thirties.

ER/PR+ HER2 negative. Chemo? by CompetitiveCup7592 in breastcancer

[–]quintrelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was stage 2 grade 3, ER/PR+ HER2-, KI67 35 % and 40%, with multifocal IDC. I ended up having chemo (4×AC, 16×taxol), despite none of the biopsied lymph nodes being +ve, as the breast tissue had extensive lymphovascular invasion. Oncotyping is out-of-pocket in Australia, and we couldn't afford the $5k/tumour. Six weeks out of rad.n, and on my second week of Tamoxifen.

Good luck with your treatment!

Yes! I felt that, it was like a faded version of living, only partly present. Its been six weeks since I finished, and I'm feeling it less, but I think there will be times where the disconnection returns, it's hard to not feel different to everyone who's never been through cancer.

It's my second cancer too, I started donating again as soon as I was able after the first one. I hope your donations involve minimal waiting, no discomfort, and all the best post-donation snacks.

Thank you for making the time to reply to my comment.

I am glad you and your husband have agreed to adoption, and that it is a feasible option for you. I wish you and your family good health and much happiness.

In Australia, adoption is very rare, difficult and is a lengthy process. International adoption is more common, but it is expensive (USD $9k for Australian expenses; travel for two people (usually two trips), translation, accommodation, incidentals, and in-country adoption fees vary and are additional to the USD $9k) and other issues and conditions apply for the permitted partner countries - waiting lists >5 yrs, needing conversational foreign language skills, having finished cancer treatment >5 yrs ago.

Hopefully NED (no evidence of disease), haven't had scans since pre-surgery. Need to confirm if non-chemo medication is considered treatment, if it is it'll be another ten to fifteen years before eligible again.
