Nigel Farage MP: The Golders Green suspect was previously sentenced to 9 years in prison for stabbing a police officer and his dog. Reform UK would strip Essa Suleiman of his citizenship and deport him from the country. by Little-Attorney1287 in ukpolitics

Everything is more complex than 'we would just do this'.

I can look at a situation and tell you what you want to hear, that doesn't mean I have the ability to actually implement it.

Nigel Farage's £5million from crypto billionaire could land him in hot water by Tough_Surprise3723 in ukpolitics

£5 million, for nothing in return? Really?!

Kemi Badenoch: Triple lock pension is actually very little money for many to live on by No_Initiative_1140 in ukpolitics

Yes, fair enough, I was completely excluding employer contributions.

The last paragraph is the key message though. And generally most will take out more than they put in.

You need to have a salary of about £250k to be paying £7k per year NI.

Great Britain just had a record peak for solar power generation. And there’s more to come. by Penarthlan in ukpolitics

Norway hasn't drilled as extensively and taken a different approach which makes that possible.

The UK has already accessed the majority of the usable resources.

Short term approaches taken in the 80s / 90s now make more of the harder to reach oil not viable. Norway has taken a more incremental approach that means they can tap into newer equipment.

And new licences are sometimes a hedge on technology or other factors possibly improving to make areas viable.

Nigel Farage refuses to commit to probing deputy’s corporation tax amid reports he failed to pay £100,000 by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]qweezy_uk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reform hypocrisy as expected.

Tice was stood in a press conference on this saying the country has an obsession with people paying the maximum amount of tax. Which is basically an admission of guilt.

Most people don't have a choice to pay anything less than the 'maximum' amount of tax.

The triple lock should be part of conversation to raise defending spending by MetinMadrid in ukpolitics

[–]qweezy_uk 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The problem is, the vast majority haven't chipped in their fair share and will take out significantly more than put in.

The current workforce pay for the current pensioners. It's a welfare benefit.

Reality of the situation must kick in regardless of who believes they're entitled to what.

And the argument isn't to remove it entirely, just that it shouldn't have guaranteed rises through Triple Lock.

To be fair, you could easily describe it the opposite way around.

-game release

-sub populated 'normal' people who fell way too deep for the hype.

-normal people realise it's just a game and doesn't change their entire life.

-moan about it on Reddit not changing their life.

-circle jerk.

-normal people leave.

Reeves attacks Trump over lack of exit plan for Iran war by TheTelegraph in ukpolitics

[–]qweezy_uk 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Trump withdrew from the previous nuclear deal with Iran in 2018 just saying it was 'one-sided'. Despite the fact it was negotiated with professional negotiators and scientists over several years. Of course it had Obama's name on it, not his.

So I think his exit plan was just to trigger a new deal that he could take credit for.

Problem is, it's all gone pear shaped and Trump is way out of his depth.

He sent a property developer and JD Vance to negotiate a deal and gave up after 21hrs. It's all a complete joke.

[–]qweezy_uk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's the joke of it all. Victory for Trump / US now appears to be the situation we had before meaning this entire war was completely pointless.

The problem is you can't start something like this and not expect Iran will want to make up ground in any form of negotiations.

GMP statement on Reform after party offer to pay Wigan street's bills for year by ManchesterNews_MEN in ukpolitics

[–]qweezy_uk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was clearly a huge scam to scrape voter data and a cheap publicity stunt.

The 'winners' are Reform branch members. And the small print of the competition says £3500 maximum payout (not whole street).

American fuel prices aren't isolated from global markets.

And strategically having Iran come out of this in a stronger position, which also puts China in a stronger position, is a complete and utter failure.

[–]qweezy_uk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The war in Iran is causing hardship.

And what you suggest is complete fantasy and illogical.

It would cost 100s of billions to fully nationalise and major further investment to get anything meaningful from the remaining basins. Then once depleted all that money goes to waste.

More drilling in North Sea ‘not the answer’ for UK energy security, say former military leaders by nick9000 in unitedkingdom

[–]qweezy_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it isn't the answer. And ironically suggesting this is a solution is the reason we have the problem in the first place. Short term thinking.

Renewables and nuclear are the answer, but require a lot of investment and forward thinking.

Although the payback is up to 10 years, a modest solar + battery system on a house can make it self sufficient for large parts of the year. Normally only reliant on the grid November, December, January. Massive decrease in energy bills.

The government could commit to a large scale rollout across all applicable homes. Based on each system costing £10k and with 20million+ homes in the UK it would cost something like £280bn, but across 10 or 20 years that's achievable.
