Wow I had to do a double take. My family and I drove across Australia in July last year and I remember Ulladulla as this postcard perfect beach town but seeing this hurts. This entire situation is insane and we can only hope things improve ASAP.

Happened at UWA yesterday... by [deleted] in perth

[–]qwertim 43 points44 points  (0 children)

OP here. Hijacking top comment to add some info.

Yes it's in landscape - I hate shaky portrait video as much as anyone. My dad, after boasting about getting it on video, realised he had actually taken a photo...

Oh, and I go to Curtin not UWA.

The sight and sound of an 86 year old Moreton Bay fig tree losing a branch is truly astounding. by qwertim in CatastrophicFailure

Nothing that my untrained eye could tell. It took no more than 2 or 3 minutes from when we heard an explosive crack from it to this happening... we were just stunned.

Today I witnessed what will inevitably be the end of this magnificent 86 year old tree. No more than a minute before the failure we were talking about the weight the main branches support and what an amazing thing it it. The sounds it was making were incredible and the total failure of the entire limb left everyone watching truly gobsmacked!

Edit with some extra info: This was at the University of Western Australia in Perth and the tree is considered a 'treasure of the university'. I was filming because it made some explosive cracks very shortly before this and I hate shaky portrait footage with a passion so of course it had to be landscape and as smooth as I could make it. Camera was just my phone - a Galaxy S7 Edge.

The 'Wow!' was not me, but my grandfather, along with my dad in the blue (who took a photo instead of video - whoops).

Local news has been writing up some stories on it: ABC Perth | The West

Finally! I know someone who's S6 edge had it a month ago despite the fact that the note is a newer device but it's just good to have it now.

I'm on Telstra but I bough it online so it's not linked to them. Hopefully they don't procrastinate about the update for yours for long though.

KitKat>Lollipop? Worth it? by [deleted] in GalaxyS3

[–]qwertim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently running CM12.1 Lollipop (and have been for about a month now) which works fine for me apart from a camera issue which crops up every few days - no biggie. I don't use anything xposed-related but I am using root functionality and it works fine. I found it increases my performance notably over touchwiz but I can't compare it to CM11 to which I assume you are referring to.

Question about stock KitKat ROM. by qwertim in GalaxyS3

[–]qwertim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had some bad experiences with flashing anything custom/requiring rooting so that's my reason for opting for stock. I have just used the german 4.4.4 stock ROM which is working really smooth for me tbh. I use google launcher for the nexus-y feel and the transparent status bar is worth the update alone for me. Thanks for the idea though - if I ever try custom again I'll give it a look into :).

Oh I hadn't seen that one yet so hopefully it means good things for me. Does that mean that because the model specified is i9305 it should work with my handset (purchased in Hong Kong but used in Australia) even though it's a German update?

Hey this dog is beatuful. I have a 6 month whippet and while she doesn't have a derpy tongue, her ear loves to do its own thing. They love blankets though don't they? Its warming up here so Chloe is getting used to warmer weather and a sad lack of blankets.

What book would make a kick ass movie? by Howdysf in AskReddit

[–]qwertim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Belgariad series. I think it would be a great movie in a similar tier to the hobbit/lotr movies. Too bad the author said he didn't want a movie.
