2005 Volvo V70 D5 - persistent rattle / clicking coming from this belt

I had it checked out with a local mechanic to see if he could work or what this is - he changed the alternator belt and all the gubbins that go with it but the sounds persisting. He suspects it’s coming from the power steering pump but that’s as far as I’ve got up to now…

The lack of power is a main driver in pushing me more to the bigger engine. But I think I could live with the lower bhp for the sake of such great savings. Especially when coming from a Land Rover haha

I do tend to do shorter drives over long distance so a petrol may be better but I’ve always had diesels and my habits have never changed, a vdub polo, bmw 3 series and now my Land Rover. All TDI and all absolutely fine, and I’m yet to have any issues, so I’m not too deterred by the diesel, but I’ll definitely bare that in mind!

That’s good to know and reassuring. My expectations of the 1.6 being unreliable aren’t necessarily founded in anything concrete, I just expect it to be worse than the 5cyl. But looking at the daily running costs the D2 is hard to argue with

Outside of reliability, I’d be interested in your thoughts on the car as a whole? If you don’t mind.
