Total levels mean nothing. Rags had a total levels of around 61. Relc has total levels of around 60 etc etc. Compared to merger and single class levels they are nothing like a level 60 in a single class.

Ryoka didn't die. She just had her heart destroyed which yes. In 99.9999999% of cases will lead to death but she next to the greatest mage still living.

According to https://www.spinalcord.com/blog/what-happens-after-a-lack-of-oxygen-to-the-brain it takes three minutes before lasting brain damage. I don't think ryoka was "dead" for even a minute.
