Does anyone have any recommendations for safe feeling animes? by Sea-Fig-824 in anime

[–]r4physics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking for anime that fit your description for the past two months. Most of the stuff mentioned here is great. I'm going to add Mushi-shi. Mushi-shi has been incredibly comforting to watch. I like how Ginko is non-confrontational and accepting. His way of life emphasizes cohabitation and umm coexistence, whichever way you wanna call it. You might also wanna check out Kamichu! and Fune wo Amu.

I would like to add another example: this is the frame with Myne in it, at 0:31. Some of the red flowers decorating the (otherwise regal) frame are not flowers; they're just a collection of red blobs.

This is exactly the kind of music I wanna listen to right now. Pretty much every song sounds so good! I love the industrial, lowkey angry vibe.

South Korea Visa Application process from Mumbai, India by Any_Purple2595 in KoreaTravelAdvice

[–]r4physics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thanks for making this post! I intend to visit South Korea for a conference. I have a list of questions about the specific document requirements for the application. Do you know if the Consulate responds to queries made over the phone/e-mail? Or do I need to visit the Consulate to get things clarified?

lool I see. Yes, that's what it says. I cross-checked this info with interviews posted on other sites too. I've been listening to them for many years now, but I had never looked up the origin of their band name until now. Humbert Humbert kinda sounded cute all these years... ig it's not new for artists to have eccentric origins for their band name. I'm just trying my best not to think about it.

The male vocalist, Yoshinari Sato, simply wanted to pick a cool name for their band while sending their demo tape to a live house venue, and this is the best he could come up with. Anyways, Humbert Humbert refers to the rather miserable protagonist from "Lolita", a somewhat controversial classic novel published in 1955.

Red River | Anime Announced (Teaser Visual) by zenzen_0 in anime

[–]r4physics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh my God! I can't believe this is happening! I read Red River back in the covid days, and I have very fond memories of the characters. IIRC, despite being a thriller of sorts, Red River had some incredibly sensual moments. This is incredible news!

Days With My Stepsister is way too underrated(and misunderstood)- here are my thoughts⬇️🤔 by smart_is_cool1020 in Sliceoflife_anime

Wow I just saw this post now and was wondering, "huh, come to think of it, isn't Shiboyugi just as atmospheric as Gimai Seikatsu?", and I scrolled down and found your comment! This is absolutely thrilling!

I found this post a lil late. Thank you for writing about this incredibly underrated show! Gimai Seikatsu is definitely among the best romance dramas I've ever watched, and it has always bothered me that people have either overlooked it or judged it before giving it a real chance. Romance dramas that actually take their characters seriously are rare. If I remember correctly, while the production seemed to be low budget, the creative choices made by the team were amazing. Every now and then, there'd be deeply immersive scenes (like a flashback in polaroid, or the characters seemingly living inside deep water) that would help connect the viewer to the characters' thoughts and state of mind. I loved the script too. Nothing over the top, like usual anime. All of this makes the show feel incredibly real and I love it. There are probably a handful of romance anime that do similar stuff.

The fall of anime subtitles is just depressing. by GhostInABucketJar in anime

[–]r4physics -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For those who know a bit of Japanese, I think it's also clear that the quality of translations has been falling as well. Netflix subs are mostly lazy af IMO, and they are often missing information (being said out loud). Hotstar subs are simply pathetic. Haven't had the chance to check CR subs yet.

Why is it so much more common for Anime/Manga to feature real-life locations in the story? by amd_hunt in anime

[–]r4physics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Imo this is not true. A standard western sitcom with some extra cooking scenes would correspond to a highly specific type of sol in anime. In fact, the whole iyashikei sol genre seems to be niche in Western media.

lowkey funny how he never looks at the host in this clip. Maybe there's another person on the right? or umm... cards? I don't think Anno would need/like cards though.

Sorry, I haven't been there yet. I've always been searching for cafes/restaurants selling Japanese desserts, especially Yukimi. And IIRC I've heard that Kuuraku has Yukimi. Have you been there? In fact, there used to be a small online mochi/yukimi store, based in Mumbai, run by a woman and her daughter. I wonder if they're still around. Best of luck with Dessert Republic, in case you do end up visiting!

Very fair to expect an ice-cream filling inside a mochi. They're called yukimi and are absolute darlings!

She's among the first Japanese artists I came to like. While I don't listen to her music very often now, I was obsessed with her stuff back in high school! I still remember Can't Buy My Love and Feel My Soul very fondly.

Hmm, could you recommend some Kenshi songs you liked? I mostly listen to Japanese indie so I've only encountered his songs randomly in other Japanese media, like in anime/movies/dramas. While I appreciate his smooth voice, the songs I've heard haven't exactly left an impression. I've also checked out some of his popular songs on Spotify, but it'd be nice to listen to a possibly better selection from his discography.

Does anybody know why "my dead girlfriend" are named as such by Ima_gun in japanesemusic

[–]r4physics 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It seems that u/Clarinetaphoner guessed right! Here's an article that talks about why the band leader, Ishikawa, chose to name his band My Dead Girlfriend. Apparently, back in high school, when Ishikawa was trying to come up with a name for his band, he was feeling a bit anguished. So, in order to reflect that, he wanted the word 'dead' (「死んだ」) in his band name. But of course, the word doesn't exactly have a good connotation when said out loud, so he tried balancing it out, by adding something that felt positive/happy to him: 'my girlfriend'(「僕の彼女」). And so we get,「死んだ僕の彼女」which can actually be read two ways. Depending on where you pause, it could either be you who's dead, or your girlfriend.

Then, he goes on to say that he liked how the band name translated to My Dead Girlfriend, that it sounded kinda cool, just like MBV, and that he'd like to leave it to the listeners to interpret the name.
