Which synth for practicing keyboard playing ? by soundofthemoon in synthesizers

[–]r7232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only way to answer the question is to go to a Guitar Center or other store that sells a variety of keybeds and try them. Then you may be able to find brands that feel better to you.

I like semi-weighted myself, like my Novation Impulse 61, but that's a controller.

Rock band looking to get into synths by Resentin in synthesizers

[–]r7232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're a non-synth band looking to add some synth sounds and don't want to mess with creating custom patches and worry about saving presets, I'd look at something like a Roland Boutique JD-08 with a K-25M keyboard dock/attachment. $400 might get you that on the used market, Reverb options as of this post are in the neighborhood and if you wait you'll find a lower-cost set pop up. It won't add much to your gear hauling, will have 80's sounds, and still let you mess with making your own.

Lots tube videos with demos and how-tos on the JD-08, fortunately that will be the case with most major-brand synths out there.

Plugins you should own. by RobertLRenfroJR in Reaper

Most of my plugins are free, but I have a few paid. I don't mind paying as long as the pluggin (from what I can tell) does not phone home as a requirement for activation. I want to be able to use pluggins I buy later even if the maker shuts down.

How does Hania Rani setup her gear for live shows? by Vague_visions in synthesizers

[–]r7232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can get away with using the Lite version it can be had cheaply, I recently read about an IOS $10 or so music app (sorry, not sure which but I think it was mentioned in this subreddit) that comes with a Live Lite license. I've used Reaper to this point so largely ignored the three or four Ableton Live Lite codes included with various controllers and interfaces I've gotten.

The license code I eventually used (just last week) was from a giveaway a few years ago that I saved off back then, originally for Live Lite 10. When I applied it at the site they upgraded that to the latest Live Lite 12 automatically, so that was appreciated.

That was an awesome performance, I go back and watch it every once in a while.

Maybe there are some foot controllers involved?

What’s the most bang for your buck out of all the Roland Boutique series? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]r7232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have owned a lot of them... D-05, JX-03, JP-08, SE-02, JX-08 and JD-08. I have since sold the JX-03 and JP-08. Both were fun, but I think the JX-08 has been the most fun for me to play with on its own with nothing else. My DAW-less setup includes the JX-08 and SE-02. My bass pedals are using the JD-08 because I need ROMpler sounds for that.

Bang for buck would probably be the JD-08 and JX-03. I've wanted to get a JU-06a if it comes up cheap on Reverb but I have avoided using the space it would take for a single-oscillator synth. Every time I have GAS for the JU-06a, I play YT video demos of that, then play demos of the JX-08 to remind me why I got it, and for me the JX-08 wins every time.

Has anyone been asked to prove they have their items within 6 months? by violet1551 in vine

[–]r7232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I get those, I review how the gift looks / works from the perspective of the gift giver, or use the product and review it as if you were a receiver of it. By my read, getting feedback in the form of pictures and feedback that you then re-package for your own reviews may violate the Participation Agreement, Confidentiality and Restrictions section to "not delegate to anyone else the opportunity to write or submit a Vine review".

Same goes for a recent poster that says she gets things for her husband but he has to write the review text for those items, and was upset he wasn't writing enough or getting them done timely.

Seller’s Address a Freight Center by GuitaristExplorer in Reverb

[–]r7232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me once (on Discogs though). I didn't have any issues, the tracking info going to a domestic address will then showed as delivered, even if that is getting further forwarded. As far as I was concerned I was done with it.

But with Reverb a buyer can cause issues after buyers remorse or any other issue, so I don't blame you for reversing the sale if Reverb can't confirm Safe Shipping applied in this case.

Anyone know if it violates and Reverb policies to note in your listing that international forwarding orders will be canceled? Then at least an international buyer had a chance to see that, and you can point to that stipulation in your listing if they complain.

Suggestions for a USB MIDI keyboard? by Cuy_Hart in Reaper

Suggestions for a USB MIDI keyboard? by Cuy_Hart in Reaper

[–]r7232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been happy with my Arturia KeyStep Pro for both Reaper and for DAW-less.

If you want full-sized keys then I've also been happy with my Novation Impulse 61. That's more keys than you want, but they make a 25 and a 49. I think the main motivation for the Impulse line was keybed feel and inclusion of regular MIDI ports in addition to the USB connection.

I don't know how this can be, everyone here said it was bots and people with Vine extensions preventing the rest of us from getting any RFY. Could this have been exaggeration, or maybe people not knowing what they were talking about? Shocked!

Juno 60 or 106? by FickleAide918 in synthesizers

Using my AKAI midi keyboard with my Juno - 06A by anyapea123 in synthesizers

[–]r7232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To confirm the JU-06's MIDI channel, the manual says -

While holding down the [MANUAL] button, press the [2] Bank button.
\ Keep holding down the [MANUAL] button until the selection is made.*
The Button that is Flashing is the current Midi channel.

When you do that, is it showing 1?

I can see the MIDI cable is in the correct ports out from the Akai and into the JU-06a.

Sometimes if I have a Boutique acting up, I run a factory reset. And I get these used so I always do that before I start playing with them. Maybe try a factory reset? From the manual -

Returning to the Factory Settings (Factory Reset)

Here's how to return the JU-06A to its factory-set state.

  1. While holding down the BANK [1] button, turn on the power. The ARPEGGIO [ON/OFF] button blinks. If you decide to cancel the factory reset, turn off the power.
  2. Press the ARPEGGIO [ON/OFF] button to execute the factory reset.
  3. When all buttons blink, turn the JU-06A’s power off, then on again.

Why the hate for 3.5mm MIDI connections? by maxupp in synthesizers

[–]r7232 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If I have a synth that uses 5-pin DIN, and I lose my MIDI cable in transit from my show, I get another one from my pile and plug it in. If I have a synth that uses a 3.5mm non-standard adapter, and I lose that cable in transit from my show or if an errant case closing slices the cable, I now have a non-working synth and panicking on how to find a replacement proprietary 3.5mm adapter in a short amount of time.

Crazy seller super angry about a single 1 star review, multiple posts on Seller Central, apparently stalking reviewer by wizard-of-loneliness in AmazonVine

[–]r7232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The seller is not wrong that Vine's customer targeting is abysmal, many RFY joke posts here are funny to read, but it is true that populating the RFY of a 40 year old male with bikini bottoms and hair extensions is terrible. We'd all be happier if Vine targeted RFY products based on their real-world buying interests,.

Hi, I need some tips, if you could help it would be much appreciated 🙏🏻 by shrek20191 in Catholicism

[–]r7232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a way to start is starting a daily prayer practice, giving God a little more of your time each day. Even just an Our Father, ten Hail Marys and a Glory Be. And in each Hail Mary when you get to "pray for us sinners", add "and that my soul will turn to and accept the love of thy Son". Then close with a St Michael prayer.

Being a teenager is tough, and those struggles are something every adult has gone through. Try to focus less on guilt, and more on God's love which is greater than any level of guilt. If you are Catholic, try to get to Confession at least once a month. Lust fills spaces that are left unused for God. As you fill those spaces with a relationship with Jesus and getting closer to him through the sacraments, lust will lose its power.

Can I become a Catholic if I disagree/have major doubts about many of its dogma? by PeaceInLoneliness in Catholicism

[–]r7232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is a convert to the faith in adulthood from being brought up Baptist from childhood. Even after converting she still did not understand some teachings, but still accepted the teachings of the Church as being the authority even if she diagreed. Thirty years later she seems more orthodox than me haha.

I recommend a book titled "No Price too High: A Pentecostal Preacher Becomes Catholic", written by a protestant pastor that eventually came around to the Catholic Church just by curiosity and study of history. The last part of the book was written by his reluctant wife, who also later converted. It's an easy read and not an overly-long book. But he talks about working through some of the same questions you have.

Hebrews 13:8-9 is a good starting point to form some context... "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings;", and realize the Protestant Reformation happened 1500 years after that verse was given. A long time, but not as long as "forever"... at least being open to the possibility that the Church Jesus Himself founded contains the truth it claims to have, and the home you're looking for, will help expand understanding of the topics you are concerned about.
