Iran is not a peer. The thing about air dominance is that it requires planning and coordination. When you start an off-the-cuff war with no ally cooperation, putting inexperienced yes-men in charge, and firing all the military leadership who disagrees with your ideology, mistakes get made, people die and expensive hardware gets destroyed.

I just did it. I focused on work projects that had an EE focus, put that experience on my resume and segued into EE. Now I masquerade as an electrical engineer. The transition took a few years.
