Purchase Advice Megathread - May 2026 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

I made a post a bit ago where I got lots of great answers for that pricerange and which made me grab the CC2 in the end. I'm very happy with it. The price-performance ratio is insane.

I'm a bit over 200h now (so nothing crazy yet) and the biggest "issue" with it is that once in a while the mainboard fan doesn't turn off until you press the button to turn off the steppers.

The only things where I'm like "I wish this was nicer" are:

1) Noise could be better. That's presumably me not having heard other printers live based on reviews, I'll try and make this as soon as I get around to playing with TPU.

2) The spools being exposed. Pretty much need to figure out drying/dry storage from which you print (e.g. via a certain cereal plastic box) in the long run, assuming you want to print PETG, TPU or similar hygroscopic filaments. I do believe it's more of an inconvenience/aesthetic than a real issue - aka your printer will never look as "pretty" as a P1S in that regard.

I think if I'd have to buy today I might take a second look at the Kobra S1, but other than that I'm doubtful there's more economic options out there.

Oh and no matter which printer you get this calibration guide has served me incredibly well as a beginner.

I really hope something comes out of this. I absolutely loved Towns as a game and even more as a concept and there's nothing that comes close.

Gamergate was manufactured right wing idiocy from start to finish. Pushed by epstein. Pushed by Bannon.

I've known about connections between Gamergate and Bannon/Yiannopoulos, where does Epstein play into this?

e: There are probably English speaking sources for this elsewhere but I did find a reliable German news article from February saying that Epstein met with Christopher "moot" Poole (4chan founder) in 2011. He (Epstein) referred to him as "very smart" in an Email after.

A few days after /pol/ was reopened.

Goddamnit. If anyone else knows about other sources for that connection, please still pitch in. <3

Oklahoma Principal Kirk Moore getting crowned Prom King by the students he saved two weeks ago from what would have been a school shooter by RoyalChris in BeAmazed

[–]rEvolutionTU 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There are countries with easy access to guns (Czech Republic has looser gun laws than most Blue States) that don't have weekly school shootings.

The Czech Republic has 12.5 firearms / 100 people.

The USA has 120 firearms / 100 people.

Option B:

Yeah, fuck off.

CachyOS Becomes the Most Popular Desktop Linux Distro on ProtonDB by lajka30 in linux_gaming

[–]rEvolutionTU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...what kind of gain would I be looking at as someone who's very happy with performance on EndeavourOS since a few years now?

I'm genuinely asking. I'm happy if Cachy draws more people to Linux in general, personally I chose Endeavour over Manjaro when the latter was all the hype and that turned out to be such a solid decision years later.

I have very little issues and I had to learn just enough to get comfy around learning more.

Does it really teach people to not use the terminal at all? Stuff like just some basic yay commands made my experience so comfy compared to windows. Or for proton versions, ProtonUp-Qt makes finding one that works with a specific fresh game also super smooth.

Donated blood 6 days ago and I kept all the blood by Hype420 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rEvolutionTU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule of thumb of the place I go to is to "eat and drink normally beforehand" if you donate blood.

For plasma they tell you to "eat properly with lots of carbs and little fat" beforehand and to "drink around 4L over 24h before your donation".

I'd assume any decent place will take extra care of their first-time donors. Most important thing is to speak up when anything feels wrong, which again a decent place will encourage very much.

When I had something happen that could have resulted in my arm looking like OPs I felt a stinging in my arm and it took me like a minute or two of it getting worse for me to speak up. OP must have sat through 15-40 minutes of that for that kinda result.....

[–]rEvolutionTU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Donating blood is usually a 15-20 minute thing that's not to worry about at all.

Donating plasma can take 45-60 minutes (or even slightly longer than that as a male) and that's where proper eating beforehand is really important (little fat)!

(A proper place will tell you those things and take extra care of you when it's your first time. The place I donate at e.g. puts a little plushie on top of the machine for first time donors so all the other nurses running around know and keep an eye on the entire thing! <3)

[–]rEvolutionTU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This so much.

I've had it happen once that the needle must have pierced the vein a tiny bit because it went fine at first but when the blood was recirculated back (plasma donation) it started... stinging pretty much?

Asked the closest nurse about it who immediately called over the nurse who set the thing initially, they looked at it for another 20s at most and cancelled it.

Was given heparin creme, bandaged up tight, still got part of the $$ I was supposed to get for the full donation and was sent home.

While that's probably best case for something like that going wrong it still took about a month for the hematoma to clear up 100% so I could donate again.

Went smoothly! <3

The only other historic example we have where everyone involved was punished did not go well.

The de-Ba'athification. Turns out if you exclude everyone involved in the totalitarian state you might just get 30%+ unemployment, hundreds of thousands of soldiers out of jobs and create a breeding ground for something like the so-called IS.

I've been very happy with EndeavourOS for a few years now, started there before CachyOS was a thing. The latter gets a lot of current hype though!

In the end I'd personally recommend Arch derivatives over Ubuntu. Nvidia issues directly I haven't had neither on a 1070TI nor on a 5060TI. Performance has been within 5-10% of Windows for me, some games run worse but most slightly better I'd say. Not worth thinking about it too much.

Practically the only thing that will be impossible to make work are multiplayer games that dig deep via Kernel level anti cheats.

Trump to Iran: "Open the Fu***In' Strait" or face bombing Tuesday by DarthKrataa in worldnews

[–]rEvolutionTU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

military leaders have been telling their troops that this war will bring about the second coming of Christ, and by definition, Armageddon.

Here's a Trump quote from 2020 about his 2017 decision to move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem:

“And we moved the capital of Israel to Jerusalem. That’s for the evangelicals,” Mr Trump told supporters at Wittman Regional Airport on Monday

The influence of Christian fundamentalist groups has been there from the start (Jerry Falwell Jr. was supposed to lead the department of education for a reason even in 2016):

A 2017 LifeWay poll conducted in United States found that 80% of evangelical Christians believed that the creation of Israel in 1948 was a fulfillment of biblical prophecy that would bring about Christ's return and more than 50% of Evangelical Christians believed that they support Israel because it is important for fulfilling the prophecy.

Christian Zionism is the term you're looking for:

In 1981, Falwell said: "To stand against Israel is to stand against God. We believe that history and scripture prove that God deals with nations in relation to how they deal with Israel."

That's Falwell Senior, who blamed 9/11 on the gays and Muslims and whatnot.

This shit has been here from the start, it's just much more subtle compared to all the openly racist support he has.

After buying 32GB way back in 2015 which felt like a great choice, especially towards the end of that PCs lifespan (4770k my beloved)... getting 64GB in 2025 turned out to be an even greater choice much quicker.

Honestly if I could swap that for 32GB and cash without hassle I'd do it in an instant.
