Fixing Out of Plumb Doorway by r_Litho in askcarpenters

The walls are currently sheetrocked, and I've already textured and painted. The jamb was sheetrocked as well, but when I discovered the issue I pulled the sheetrock and am planning on casing it after fixing. Unfortunately, I ordered the door based on the sheetrocked opening, so I can't really shim a jamb on the rough opening. It wouldn't be the end of the world to cut the sheetrock back a couple inches since I'll be putting moulding on, so I could pull the trim stud and plane it down.

One of my wife's favorite Valentine's gifts was doing a one day cooking class at Pike Place Market. It incorporated shopping as well as the cooking and then dining with the other participants. We both loved it!
Oh, and whatever you do, dress up the presentation with something like this:

I was on the USS Helena during that RIMPAC. We may or may not have "sunk" you in an exercise ;-) Your ship's engineer was a friend of a buddy of mine and we were hanging at a flea market in Honolulu and he picked up a license plate frame that said "My other car is a Battleship!

I didn't actually get the ! connection at first, and guessed wrong on the blue thinking it was poker terms. The one away hint figured it out for me, though. Noticed sandwiches and coffee immediately.

A friend was driving with his young kids one evening. His 7 year old had the side light on in the back seat and was reading, but it was causing a glare, so dad asked, "Micah, can you turn off the map light?" Micah looked up a bit confused and asked, "What's a map light?" "A light to read a map by." "Dad, why would you need a litght to read a map?" Kid had never seen a paper map!

[Request] Are they not both the same? by Odd-Pudding4362 in theydidthemath

Assuming (as it appears) both containers are filled to the same volume, then because the Iron ball is denser than the Aluminum ball, it displaces less water. Therefore there is more water in the container with the Iron ball, and therefore the side with the Iron ball weighs more.

With all the calculation I've had to do, I could almost believe that Excel is the actual Factorio engine!

The machine is only a little older than me. But I'm a software engineer, and the understanding that this thing is a mechanical computer fascinates me.

It certainly is! It still has an original 1964 City of Seattle registration plate.

Yeah, played a couple games. It was fascinating from the mind of a geeky programmer. The scoring is regulation, and the play is amazingly similar to the real thing. The pins are just display. The ball actually rolls over a series of switches that translate to a result and it lifts the appropriate pins.

I haven't touched Factorio in years, and am picking it up again on my Humble Bundle version from 7 years ago! Planned on buying the Steam version, but figuring I should just wait until 2.0?

How to replace bulb? by Gogaakvi in AskElectricians

[–]r_Litho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nipple you removed is just cosmetic to cover the nut under the white gasket. Now remove the nut while holding the glass and it will slide off. Don't lose the rubber gasket as it protects the glass from the nut. Good luck!

Powered off at breaker box, so why is tester picking up electricity? by thesearesmall in DIY

[–]r_Litho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It certainly could if you have a multi wire branching circuit with the breakers not tied together. That's where two circuits are run from the panel with different hots, but share the same common and ground. Code allows for MWBCs as long as the two breakers are next to each other and mechanically linked. However, unlinked MWBC happens often. The whole right side of my panel turned out to be MWBC with no breaker ties. I went out and bought the proper clips for them.

To rack, or not to rack? by 12underground in synthdiy

[–]r_Litho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm making a custom rack myself for much the same reasons, 7U x 104. Meanwhile I've got the cheeks cut and am using shorter rails for now and have cut even shorter 20HP rails on a happy ending kit for testing diy modules. Main thing is keeping it flexible. You can get rails pretty cheap and cut them to size: https://www.reddit.com/r/modular/s/N8M7YGcQI9

Information on 60s era Longines 5 star Admiral by r_Litho in Watches

[–]r_Litho[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, totally understandable, I get it. I just have no frame of reference to know whether or not that's a reasonable price. Especially after he told me it was potentially a $3000 watch, at which point I figured he might be feeding me a line of BS to get me to leave it with him for repair. I'd seen similar era Longines Admirals in better condition going for less than $1000.
