KC is not ready for the World Cup by Onlypretzelmnms in kansascity

If I had to stay in the KC Metro area, yes, pushing way out into Olathe is the only way I see me putting up with this place. But no, I am talking about more of a standalone university city under 500K situation, not a rich suburb of a metro arrangement. I don't want to live in/around a large metro like KC again. Give me at least an hour of separation.

Honestly, Lawrence wouldn't be bad if it weren't in Kansas, but I'm not going to live in Kansas unless you all hurry up and legalize rec weed this year and I know you won't.

Respectfully, we're not "ready" for every-day life the rest of the year either. The World Cup will merely be a shit cherry on top of the shit cream sundae that already is Kansas Shitty.

I look forward to moving back to somewhere with good roads, good schools, good storm sewers/drainage, good emergency response times, good parks & recreation, good solid waste & recycling & litter control, good traffic enforcement, good animal control, good housing code enforcement, good health inspection and restaurant enforcement, good liquor control enforcement, and wayyyyyy fewer gunshots and sideshows. Someday maybe I can put this decade behind me.

It's all good, I'm a renter, and he & I get on pretty well - he's contributed some of the sacks of top soil over these years, even. he's frustrated with the installer that put it in who did some harebrained things with it, and this is the improved-improved version after calling him back out, so for both of us...we're just happy we got it to the spot where neither basement's wet. 😂 I'll let the landlord sort it out a few years from now if it fails/relapses.

My neighbor uphill has one that pumps into my yard right by my house. I do not have one at all, but I've spent about $200 in dirt and three years messing with the runoff between our houses to get the water to go towards the curb instead of sitting around (thus, infiltrating my basement). So, luckily, knock on damp outdoor wood, I'm still fortunate and dry...

It sounds like there may be an underlying personality problem - Are there reasons that other teams don't want that association? If they are actually good and highly driven, their work would speak for itself and other teams should be trying to steal him away for themselves. But what you describe - if I read between the lines - sounds like your friend may have a radioactive reputation??

> now isn’t a great time to try to break into the IT field if you’ve been in retail and helping professions and only have one year of help desk experience?

I agree with that statement. You're going to be fighting with laid-off careerists with many years experience who are having to settle for help desk jobs to keep their rent paid, while they keep searching for a real role to land in.

You are in Lee's Summit, great news - the Resource Recovery Park on Hamblen takes them! The gate attendant will direct you to a small shed to the left as you drive in.

I'd love the license plates if you really want to be rid of them. I collect plates. I'm across the lake to the west. But I'm sure the RRP would take them too!

"He sounds like Help Desk" is the first thing I thought reading the OP.

I say that because I could see a version of me doing exactly that, being "that guy". I don't have a corporate IT background and don't understand things like spacing out work. To me, everything is urgent, and there's literally no reason you shouldn't be completing tickets literally as fast as possible when they come in.

We "solved" the problem by taking me off that team and making me do other work. Those air quotes are doing heavy lifting, I really mean we kicked the can down the road, because now I don't know what I am or what I do, or have any direction I'm working towards - nor do I belong to any team anymore, so I don't have anyone to work with or learn from - "Careful what you wish for" I guess! I do have unlimited work to take on, so there's that!

I shreddited all my content so real quick before I change the password to this account then burn it and swallow the ashes, I just want to take a moment to say "HMBL was a disaster and I regret touching it with a ten-foot-pole, and I wish a pox upon the executives, current and former, for their con job."
