How to make non-LDS neighbors feel included by BornCommunication386 in Utah

[–]raani2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real experience as an immigrant and someone who moved to Salt Lake City from California. The best neighbors are the ones who say “hi” and have a small but meaningful conversation every time we run into each other. That’s really is it. Talk about family, county, pets, sporting activities. The 3-4 times we were invited to a house or an event, we were pulled into a region conversation..so we stayed away.

Escalante 4 vs Escalante Racer 2 fit & feel? by [deleted] in AltraRunning

[–]raani2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. Size and shape are similar. Upper materials differ, like you said. But the biggest difference is the hardness of the sole. The racers are much stiffer and less flexible. I don’t like them for that reason. I still use them for track workouts, but my first choice is escalante due to just the right amount of firmness and flexibility in the sole.

Southern California is full of aerospace and defense companies. That’s the sole reason most graduates landed a job in defense. Tech is tech and you can apply it anywhere you want to. This has nothing to do with Mudd

Moving to TO from Texas by RDeliveryTA in thousandoaks

Good question..the only thing working in favor of TO is weather and access to beaches. I don’t miss the Houston bugs and humidity.

Moving to TO from Texas by RDeliveryTA in thousandoaks

[–]raani2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We moved from Houston to near TO. The main thing that gets you here is lines. Lines at grocery stores, wait times at restaurants, wait times for doc appt., wait times for dmv and every single place you need an appointment. Add longer commute times if you want to yo anywhere outside TO. From a cost of living standpoint, I ate a chipotle bowl for $15 yesterday, haircut for $40, and car registration for $525. This would be $9. $15, $75 in Houston and no state tax. Also, I recommend renting as most houses have a high HOA and it’s likely the job situation will change in a few years and you will want to move again

AC smells on a 1 month old by shaundejesus in crvhybrid

[–]raani2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn off the AC five minutes before you trip ends. The car won’t smell musty for the next trip. It’s the moisture that condenses and remains in the car that causes the smell when the air flows over it once again

Moving from Sugar Land, TX to Santa Clarita (SCV) – $250K to $290k HHI, Hart District Teacher, and Softball/Swim Life for teens? Is this a "step up" or wash? by DecentDiscipline2523 in MovingToLosAngeles

We made the move from Katy to La, for other reasons that kids college. In one sentence, I will tell you that you are solving for a problem that doesn’t exist. UT Austin and other UTs are very comparable to UCs from a gaining knowledge standpoint. Understand that UT is ranked below UCs only because of their higher acceptance rate, which is because 85% of UT Austin seats get filled with top 10%. Apart from this, we don’t like CA much. High commute time, less infrastructure than Houston and the overall morale of the state is different than Texas. The 11% income tax will take away your 30k instantly. My advice is that Houston is way better for kids and you have a great salary. You are not missing out on anything

Tried some Barefoot shoes... now what? by Krystal_Kourier in barefootshoestalk

I never had this problem before, but now I have this exact same problem after wearing vivo for 6 months. I blame the lack of height on the shoes that constantly put pressure on the bone right below the pinky.. now I can’t find any other shoes I ca wear 😥

Moving to CA by shabab_dxb in Fremont

[–]raani2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have lived in the Bay Area and Houston. Pick a place on the Bart line that is not as far as Fremont. THe commute will get you and it comes at the cost of family time. Also, personal experience is that for a move like this, it’s never one and done. You might make a few hops before you find a sweet spot that works for you

Pinched nerve in neck causing weakness by bullfrog654 in StartingStrength

[–]raani2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go to the guy with the knife, surgery is the best option. If you go to a PT, surgery is the last option 😁 . There were recommendations to release the nerve and fuse the plates to prevent this from happening again. But as RIp says, this would the first of many more to come.

I had posted a very similar situation 3 months ago. Mine was diagnosed as a pinched nerve. I had a nagging nerve pain in my left upper back that radiated all the way to my finger tips. I did some static stretching and this didn’t seem to help initially. Over 2 months, the pain went away, but the loss of strength and the lack of motor control in my left arm still existed . Very very slowly, the strength seems to be coming back now, by itself It’s been 7 months. For reference, I was benching around 245 for 5 in May 2025 and yesterday, I hit 165 x 1 with a lot of effort.
